Wallkill River Camping

We had a wonderful stay at this campsite—it was peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for our family. The site was well set up with a charcoal grill, table, benches, and chairs, and our daughter loved the swings and slide. The bathroom was very close and surprisingly clean, and we enjoyed the fire pit. The highlight was the river and the cute swing overlooking the water, trees, and birds—it was so relaxing. Paul was extremely kind and welcoming, checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and even letting us arrive early. Montgomery was very charming, and the neighbors were so kind in helping us find our way when we got lost. We truly enjoyed our time and would definitely come back!

The campsite is really pretty, very big and still feels private from the other sites. It’s easy to walk to the farm and explore. Lots of great hike options nearby.

We are experienced campers and Sarah’s land was fantastic. It was much larger than we expected and right along the river. There was a little music from the City Winery across the way but it was mostly pretty faint. We hope to come back again soon!

October Bikepack from Poughkeepsie

We enjoyed our stay at site 2 and would recommend! Sarah was very helpful and communicative through our 1 night stay. It was our first time bikepacking and it was a great introduction. We took the Metro North train from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie, and then rode mostly on the Empire State Trail and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail to the farm. Beautiful fall views and smooth riding! The site was spacious, clean, and generally quiet and peaceful (we could hear some other campsites, City Winery, and the town nearby). The hill down to the river is pretty steep with slightly loose footing but we had no problem with it. At night, we saw stars and relaxed with a bonfire with wood provided for an extra fee. Thank you Sarah for a great experience!

I stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. Everything was great. Unfortunately because of the lack of rain the water level was very low and I missed my chance to go fishing. But otherwise, it was a great trip. The land is clean, I set up my tent waterside and enjoyed a fire every night during sun down and enjoyed natures soundtrack…. With a little road noise, but that’s to be expected with sites in areas similar to this. It didn’t take away from the experience at all. My dog enjoyed the walks by the water and the lazy days laying on the grass in the sun. Also only about 30 minutes from Sam’s Point and the Ice Caves. An experience anyone staying here should consider. I would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location for us. The site was large and felt private. It was also well maintained and clean. The river view and access was quite nice. We ordered fire wood which was there upon our arrival. Everything went according to plan.

This was our first time using hipcamp and it was such a beautiful campsite. Sarah was a great communicator and upon arrival she let us know that upon arrival her father would be supplying our firewood. He was super kind and informative about the property, showed us where the area was to pick some raspberries and assured us he was a phone call away if needed. The outhouse was as a quick walk and it was even supplied with things such as bug bite bracelets and glow sticks for purchase. We were even told we were able to camp down by the river but as it was just one night we decided to stay and camp up top by the field. Down by the river is dreamy and definitely plan to camp out down there during our next visit. We had an excellent stay. The property was beautiful, peaceful and everything needed for a quiet getaway outside of the city. We saw flocks and flocks of geese, chipmunks, a beaver and a variety of different birds down by the river!! 10/10 experience and definitely plan on returning!

Group Camping Trip

A large group of us camped here over the holiday weekend. Our group consisted of 11 adults, 1 toddler, 2 infants, and 2 dogs. We ended up reserving all three sites, but only occupied site #3. We stayed on the lower level right on the river. Plenty of shade and room for 5 tents and 2 pop ups for the kitchen set up. The river was surprisingly full of fish. We caught several decently large small mouth bass, hooked up on a large catfish (snapped the line), caught a snapping turtle???, and a large carp. All in all, the campground is very spacious along the lower levels, great shade, and great hosts. Being within 5 minutes to a gas station and 10 minutes to a grocery store was very helpful as well.

This was our first time visiting, and just as other reviewers have said, it’s a wonderful campsite! Everything was well-maintained, and the restrooms were clean and comfortable, which made it easy for our family to enjoy our stay. We stayed at a riverside site with a spacious field on the opposite side. It was peaceful, quiet, and we had such a great time. Thank you!

Sarah was a wonderful host and responds very quickly. Her father, Paul, is an absolute gem and we chatted a while about the history of the area and the farm. The guy is a wealth of information and very easy to talk to. The property is meticulously maintained and was one of the largest and cleanest spaces I’ve ever camped in. The picnic table was elegant, clean, and has four classy benches. Wonderful tree-lined field alongside the river at site 1. Would really be a perfect site for larger groups and families. Also very beginner-friendly for new campers. Recommend bringing a wagon or packing light if you plan on camping by the river downhill. 2 minute walk but be mindful of the hill. Compost toilet at the top of the hill was in good shape considering the heat this summer. Wildlife on the river was beautiful. While chatting with Paul, we watched a bald eagle and an egret fly through the river. Also caught a bunch of catfish. Campsites are dispersed well and I only heard another site once in the middle of the day. There’s a City Winery across the river that held an outdoor wedding that weekend so I got some noise pollution. Not enough to be a deal breaker but worth considering if you’re looking for an isolated and totally quiet camp. Had a great time overall and will definitely be adding to my rotation.

The campsite is beautiful and well maintained! We enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness of the property. We enjoyed tubing on the river and a great campfire! It was a fantastic get away! The bathroom was farthest from site 3 but only a few min walk. We brought bikes along and biking to outhouse was a lot faster than walking. It was cloudy when we were there and can only imagine how much more beautiful it would be on a clear day/night. Highly recommend this camping spot!

Paul was very nice, greeted us when we arrived and as if we needed any fire wood, also allowed us to camp closer to the water so the pups could swim. Bathroom is a composting out house but the host keeps in very clean and full of paper and hand sanitizer. The grounds to the property was beautiful. We would definitely come back!

Great camp site! We fished at night and almost caught a huge catfish, but the line broke. Late afternoon, couple of basses. There were some huge cards, but we weren't equipped for carps. Thanks for hosting Sarah!

Enjoyed the constant birdsong

My family had a great time camping at site 1. We had a mix of parents, tweens and a toddler. We didn’t use the playground with our toddler as expected as there was plenty of shady spaces to sit and play games or throw a ball or frisbee. We brought paddle boards and floats into the river which was a much needed activity on a hot day. We set up a few hammocks and it was perfect for listening and watching to the many birds that came by. We also saw tons of fireflies each night which was amazing. The outhouse was clean and maintained. The picnic table was large and the fire pit in a great spot. Pre purchasing firewood worked great for us also knowing more was available for purchase if needed throughout our stay. Hosts were friendly and communicative.

Great Weekend Trip

Had a great weekend here with my family. The wooded area offered the most privacy, but you also have the choice to set up near the river with plenty of open grass which is also secluded. The hosts were very attentive and nice. There were lots of mosquitoes near the river which is to be expected, but there were less in wooded area. Fishing here was our highlight and we caught lots of catfish. Other campers were tubing and swimming in the river. Only downside is you need take your own garbage with you and there’s no potable water, so make sure you plan accordingly. The outhouse was fairly clean and well maintained considering. A firepit and grill was available on our site. Lots of fireflies and stars at night which was nice to see. We will definitely come back and we would definitely recommend this place!

Sarah’s land is an absolute gem!! We stayed on site 3 and it was absolutely magical - private, quite, shady, and close to the water. Great fire pit and easy to drive up to for setup. Feels rural but plenty of shops and stores nearby to grab food if needed. Favorite part was walking along the river with our pup in the mornings / evening. Would definitely return!

Great riverside camping!

Highly recommend! We stayed in site 1 and set up our tent in the trees at the top of the hill. Beautiful site with view of the river and the hay field. Short walk to swimming spot by site 3 (muddy but worth it!). A gorgeous place to spend some time! We loved seeing the bats overhead at twilight, the stunning display from the fireflies, waking up to birdsong. Private and quiet. Clean outhouse. Good vibes, friendly host!

We had a amazing time camping on the Wallkill! Sarah’s land is gorgeous with amazing sunset views. They amenities (bathroom, fire wood, bench, BBQ, mosquito wipes) were very clean, easy to access, and useful. Sarah and co were very easy to get a hold of for any questions or concerns. We definitely plan on returning in the near future! Would highly recommend :)

We had a great time camping on Sarah’s land! What a great spot! It was easy to get to, but definitely felt private. Perfect setup to hang out, cook food and enjoy nature. Lots of benches, tables, a charcoal grill and a fire pit. Lots of space to explore as well. Highly recommend this camping spot.
