Moon In The Pond is a small farm nestled on a quiet and picturesque dirt road in the southern Berkshire hills in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Raising food naturally and sharing the experience has been a strong and growing commitment throughout the farm’s 30+ year history. Through production and education Moon In The Pond maintains a strong focus on the elegant integration of historic and modern technology. The farm is situated on preserved land that is surrounded by thousands of acres of wild, conserved land (in part owned by The Nature Conservancy). Our 'campsites' are located in quieter areas of the farm. One is near the pond, the other under the trees on the edge of our vegetable garden field, During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's serenely quiet and lusciously dark. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--all campsites are reduced rates and local hot spots or cooling down spots are much quieter. If you can, take advantage of that by adding a Friday or Monday to a weekend stay. Farm to table! Never so close!! Bring your cooking gear and get some fresh organic food--veggies, chops, steaks, or sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a treat! Near here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail and several offshoots). From the farm, there is even an easy trail (on land of The Nature Conservancy) that winds through woods around rock ledges and through wetlands (on a 600' long boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Also in the neighborhood are canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, off-road, dirt-road and country-road biking, snowshoeing, cc skiing and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. As an alternative cultural mecca there are numerous other entertainment opportunities from fine dining to yoga, art, dance and music. It's still amazingly quiet and the Milky Way is clearly visible. Participation in farm activities can be arranged, as well as organic home cooked farm meals (not available Fridays or Saturdays). (Meals are at additional cost!)

Perfect Getaway
My husband and I loved our stay! Dominic was such a wonderful host and his staff was very kind. Dominic’s cows were close by and they were so sweet and beautiful!! There is a hike accessible from his land and he gave us great recommendations for antique stores in town. We highly recommend this stay!

Perfect Fall Weekend
Dominic’s place was quiet and relaxing. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful weekend making camp fires and exploring the restaurants and bars Dominic recommended to us. The cabin is cozy and perfect for a fall weekend!

Great day away from the city!
Moon in the Pond was a very refreshing weekend away from cell phones and the urban pace of life. We were able to get a campfire roaring and roasted some great veg and meat. The cabin is basic, but very comfortable and nice.

The beautiful land and cabin was definitely worth the trip! The farm is gorgeous and the cabin was private but still close enough to the farm, it really made the experience of living on a farm feel real! Loved visiting the animals and using the fire pit to cook up some farm fresh eggs. Would definitely recommend staying here to a friend. Heavily considering coming back in the fall. Dominic was very thoughtful and helpful in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. Overall amazing cabin, beautiful farm, and great environment to be in :)

Dominic was a wonderful host. It’s a very simple cabin in the corner of a lovely farm. It’s private and quiet. I was looking for a place to meditate, hike, and have alone time. The cabin was perfect for that. The area is beautiful. There is hiking right outside the door. I did drive into Great Barrington to shower at the community center. I will definitely stay here again the next time I want to go on a retreat.

Lovely Pastoral Atmosphere
This campsite is incredibly special. Dominic is a fantastic host and made sure we were comfortably situated before leaving us to enjoy the peaceful meadow. We had the company of the cows which provided plenty of ambiance as we sat looking out to the evenings sunset.

Wonderful farm stay
Dom was a welcoming and accommodating host. He greeted me at arrival, helped me navigate to my site, and gave me great tips for different events happening nearby during my stay. The field I camped in was totally private, and my only company was some cows I enjoyed going to visit during morning strolls. I was towing a small pop-up behind my Outback, and having the 4WD and ground clearance made my site easy to get to. However, there is parking and you can walk to the sites if necessary. I was lucky to be able to set up camp in a nice shady spot which made a big difference during the August heat.

The cabin was an incredible escape from the city. Perfect for someone like me who loves camping but didn’t want to put in all the effort around setting up a camp. Cozy in the evenings and lovely in the morning. Just remember to bring your bug spray and you’ll have a lovely time. Dont miss out on the farm fresh sausage and bacon Dominic offers! Sausage itself made the trip worth it.

The listing description was honest, and there were a lot of things that we loved about it— it was very private, the field had beautiful views (especially the sunset, and the fireflies at night were magical). However, this camping experience was too “roughing it” for the cost… It would’ve been really nice for the host to at least add a picnic table to the campsite (and our cost for the weekend alone could feasibly cover this). It’s a small thing that would’ve made a big difference. There was a hose for water but it would’ve been nice to have an outdoor sink to use for hand washing. The porta potty was really clean, which we appreciated. Aside from the porta potty (which was far away from our campsite), however, this felt more like dispersed camping (which is usually free/close to free) than having the comforts of an actual campsite (use of car, table, sink, trash disposal, etc).

Dominic was such a kind and accommodating host - we had an amazing stay on the farm and it was so refreshing to leave the city for a peaceful getaway! The fresh eggs and sausage were incredible and there's nothing like cooking your own breakfast on the fire first thing in the morning.

We loved our stay at the cabin and on Dom's farm. We took advantage of getting the farm's sausages to cook in the fire pit - they were so good! The cabin is tucked back in the property just enough for real privacy, but close enough to the parking area and the farmhouse that the small trek for supplies/getting in and out is no sweat. We appreciated that the cabin had electricity to recharge our devices after our day trips and hikes nearby. The sheep and chickens were adorable. Dom is a wonderful host and farmer, we would highly recommend this spot if you're considering it!

Dominic’s cabin and farm were idyllic. We loved walking the property and the surrounding towns and hikes were fantastic. Dom himself was very helpful and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. We were comfortable in the cabin although it did get pretty cold without windows so we were glad to have warm sleeping bags. Overall it was a great experience I would definitely recommend!

Quiet and peaceful
This was our first trip using Hipcamp, so we didn't really know what to expect. However, Dominic is a wonderful host, and made out trip truly memorable. We stayed at the FieldEdge campsite, which is a bit of a walk in. Dominic provides a wheelbarrow to carry all of your stuff, and we were able to fill our water cooler from his garden hose. The campsite was amazing! Although the hike in (and parking down the road from the farm) may seem like negatives, they have the effect of ensuring a quiet, secluded feel to the campsite, which is precisely what we wanted. Be sure to sample some of Dominic's farm products, such as the farm fresh yogurt, granola, and grass fed beef. All in all it was a wonderful place to camp, and we look forward to returning.

Great Site, Great Host, Bad Weather
The farm was a wonderfully peaceful place and Dominic is a very helpful host. We visited after a record rainy month and had a difficult time driving our Class B to the beautiful site because the full size RAM Promaster van got stuck in mud and wet grass climbing the final hill to the site. Dominic did all he could to assist and we eventually got out after the land dried out after two sunny days. The area had many nearby fantastic hiking trails and the serenity was unbeatable. We just had bad timing for our visit.

Far afield in a lovely field
Our site was a beautiful location at the edge of a field, under an overhanging red oak. This is a working farm, and we were happy with the greeting from the pigs each time we walked past. Dominic is a friendly and casual host. We will definitely go back! A couple of things to know before you go. The portojohn is about a quarter mile from the site. And potable water comes from a hose at the main house. If you like quiet, unspoiled nature, this is the place for you.

This rustic cabin is tucked away between lush greenery with rambling wild grape vines and raspberry bushes just outside the doorway. Dominic had the cabin nicely prepared for our arrival. The bed was actually quite comfortable. The cabin details such as the seating bench at the table and the small shelf by the door way were thoughtful touches.

Connect with your food supply
Staying with Dom was quite a treat. The cabin was very cute, super rustic. There were lots of barnyard and other animals to visit with and it was a great place to disconnect / unwind. We also learned a bit about farming to boot. I would highly recommend the farm. I would also recommend planning ahead and ordering some eggs/sausage/veggies to pick up while you are there.

Charming and yummy
We had a lovely stay! It was a bit chilly, but the surroundings made it worthwhile. There is not such thing as bad weather, just bad gear:) The food from the farm was delicious and we cooked it on an open fire. Just walking on the dirt roads was beautiful and we came across a trail that took us to a pond. Dominic was super nice and the pigs and chickens were entertaining.

Quiet, beautiful, and remote!
We had a WONDERFUL time at Moon in the Pond Farm! Arrival/check-in was easy. We were able to drive to the field to unload our car and then drove back out to the parking area and left it there for our stay. We actually chose this location because it showed as "dark" and "quiet" on light/sound maps and wow, we were blown away! Even though it was a full moon weekend, we saw so many stars, including shooting stars! And "quiet" is an understatement - it was completely silent while we were there. We wondered if we'd hear noise from the farm animals but we weren't disturbed at all. Dom is very friendly and chatted with us our first morning. We had woken up early to walk around and enjoy some of the scenery of the farm and he told us a bit about the animals as he was feeding them. The other staff we interacted with during our stay (picking up food, answering questions about the farm) were also friendly, polite, and hellpful. I think it's worth noting that the staff were always around and helpful when we needed them but otherwise left us alone and we felt that we had a very private stay (which was great!). We will definitely keep this place in mind for future camping getaways. Highly recommended!
