The Upper Shire Private Campsites in the Hudson Valley are on a gorgeous hill with a small pond surrounded by 22 acres of an old horse ranch. It is located in Columbia County near the Massachusetts and New York border. There are currently 5 unique camping areas located here. Each one is special due to its location on the hill. Check out our map and enjoy our spacious yet secluded campsites and our new off-grid double shower shack with hot and cold water on demand. This place has a relaxed atmosphere and is located near Catamount Ski Resort, Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, Hudson NY, and Great Barrington, MA. If you plan on bringing a pet please be sure to add that fee to your booking under "extras" ($25) If you have additional guest(s) that would like to join you that fee is ($25 a night per person) and you will need to message us about how to arrange that. We have extra easy pop-up two-person tents available to rent ($15 for two nights) you can also find that option under "extras" along with bundles of firewood ($15)

The Entire Upper Shire Campground

Best camping experience ever!!

For anyone seeking an exceptional camping experience, book Uppershire campsite! The hosts, Joanna and Barbs, dedication and attention to detail transformed our stay into an unforgettable adventure. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us warmly, setting the stage for a trip filled with their exceptional hospitality. What truly sets Joanna and Barb apart is their incredible communication and willingness to go above and beyond for their guests. They were not only responsive to our every need but also provided invaluable local insights and recommendations that enhanced our trip immensely. Their deep knowledge of the area ensured that every activity, hike, and local eatery we visited was a highlight of our journey. The campground itself is a testament to their hard work and vision. 1987 Airstream at Tin Can Valley

Loved the airstream Experience

We were so happy to stay in the airstream because it rained a lot at night and we were so close to Tanglewood! My boys loved exploring the property while we prepared our meals. It was a great time!

Upper Shire Meadow

Third stay

This was our 3rd stay. We absolutely love it here!! The views, the privacy, and now showers too. Joanna is so responsive as well as gives space. It’s such a great place for our reactive dog (to other dogs) to be able to relax in nature.

Pondside Meadow

Peaceful and private

This was our first Hipcamp experience. It was incredible! Joanna was super responsive. The campsite was enormous and so peaceful. The new outdoor shower was a bonus! Loved every minute of our two night stay.

Pondside Meadow

Our first Hipcamp experience!

We booked the Pondside Meadow for the weekend and had a pleasant stay at the campsite. Joanna was such a hardworking, warm and friendly host; she provided info about the campground, brought us some firewood and a jug of potable water. The campsite was super clean, spacious and came a couple of hammocks, Adirondack chairs, a firepit and a neatly tuck away string light by pond side, it's perfect spot to chill and to enjoy the sunset. We set up our tent and tarp near the tree line to escape the summer heat during our stay; the view of the pond was phenomenal at dusk. Nature calls can be answered by a short distant to the clean outhouse. If tent camping is not your thing, then you can book the A-frame cabin, Pine Grove Bell canvas glamping tent or the vintage Airstream trailer. We would love to come back for the foliage of Fall season.

Upper Shire Meadow

Beautiful hilltop site

Beautiful spot! Amazing views across 180 degrees, especially for sunsets. Highly recommend.
