The Upper Shire Private Campsites in the Hudson Valley are on a gorgeous hill with a small pond surrounded by 22 acres of an old horse ranch. It is located in Columbia County near the Massachusetts and New York border. There are currently 5 unique camping areas located here. Each one is special due to its location on the hill. Check out our map and enjoy our spacious yet secluded campsites and our new off-grid double shower shack with hot and cold water on demand. This place has a relaxed atmosphere and is located near Catamount Ski Resort, Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, Hudson NY, and Great Barrington, MA.
If you plan on bringing a pet please be sure to add that fee to your booking under "extras" ($25) If you have additional guest(s) that would like to join you that fee is ($25 a night per person) and you will need to message us about how to arrange that. We have extra easy pop-up two-person tents available to rent ($15 for two nights) you can also find that option under "extras" along with bundles of firewood ($15)

We have carved out a campers paradise on our vacation rental homes property. Our 1972 airstream globetrotter has been outfitted with a real queen size bed, and a mini kitchen… AC & Heat…the full original bathroom with shower sink and toilet. The private wooded site sits alongside a boulder lined Climax Creek so you can listen to the sounds of the creek as you sleep and sitting out at the bonfire. Our site comes complete with an additional outdoor cooler and prep table, a small Weber charcoal grill, a propane grill and the option for open fire cooking. There is a fee for wood/charcoal/propane (or bring your own).
The campsite has plenty of parking and is very private with your own bonfire area and sitting area alongside the creek. The site has full electric hookup and some have town supplied water, yes a hot shower too! Ask us about the option for a Finnish Wood Fired Sauna private rental session across the street at our venue @owlshootbarn.
Want to camp with friends? We can offer additional options across our 12 acre property.
2 additional camp sites with vintage RVs available for rental, each RV accommodates 2 guests maximum.
We also have a glamping cabin with a king bed, a full 4 season cabin with a queen bed, and three vacation rental houses (each is a 3 bed/2 bathroom
We host private events and parties on the main farm property. When events are not going on our camp site guests can utilize the dipping hole, walk the grounds and enjoy the gardens across the street at Owls Hoot Barn.

The Hideout is the perfect home base for exploring the beauty of the western Catskills. Our time at Tin Valley in Upper Shire Campground was so special. Joanna’s land was beautifully maintained and the campsite had everything we needed and more - a fire pit, hammocks, comfortable beds to lay in, even an electric kettle and french press! The outhouse was a very convenient location and warm showers was a huge plus - made the weekend a perfect glamping excursion. Location was lovely as well, just a short drive from fantastic hikes like Bash Bish Falls and Little Apple Cidery, where we had a great time at the Orchard Bar. This was my first adventure through HipCamp and Joanna made it an easy and perfect experience - thank you!

Weekend Trip to Camp Owls Hoot Creekside
We had a great time at the airstream! Kerri is a fantastic host with clear and quick communication. We were welcomed in and treated like family. The grounds are beautiful and there is plenty to do and see. The natural trails are beautiful and the pavilion with BBQ is top-notch.
The airstream is tastefully restored and super cozy. We had a great night's sleep on the comfy bed after hanging around the fire pit. Plus, the brook right next to the site provides great, calming white noise. Overall this is an excellent stay that I highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Upper Shire Campsites Hudson Valley
We had a fabulous weekend on and off the site. The site itself is beautiful and simple, with everything you could need. There were other campers but it felt totally private. The Airstream itself is so cute, and the bed was super comfortable. The shower is GREAT, plenty of hot water. We blew through our wood the first night (stargazing was spectacular) and Joanna delivered more for us the next morning. We did a ton of little activities nearby, guided by Joanna's helpful list. We'll definitely be back.

A perfect getaway, nature, comfort, and genuine hospitality!
We spent three incredible nights at this charming campground. The place is very private, well-kept, and incredibly peaceful. There's a beautiful lake with a little boat that adds a magical touch.
We stayed in the Airstream trailer and in the new Black & Tan Cabin, which was beautifully designed, super cozy, and very comfortable. It was a unique and fun experience! Everything was clean, carefully organized, and made us feel right at home.
One of the highlights was the outdoor shower a wonderful experience! The showers are new, with great water pressure and warm water, surrounded by nature. We loved swinging in the hammocks, gathering around the fire pit at night, and relaxing in the comfortable Adirondack chairs while gazing at the stars.
Joanna and Barbara welcomed us warmly and gave us great local tips on what to do in town and the surrounding area, super helpful!
It was a truly special stay from start to finish. We will definitely be back soon!

Hosts are lovely and genuinely care about the visitors to this very special place. 5 great camp spots. Plenty of privacy. Very clean outdoor shower. We stayed in the retro Airstream which has comfortable sleeping inside. Enjoy the outside with a nice sunshield, table, chairs, fire pit and 2 hammocks. My bird app identified 11 different species of birds in just a few minutes one morning. Amazing. Loved it.

Joanna’s sites are beautifully and thoughtfully laid out. The airstream was comfortable and fun to sleep in. Joanna was communicative and helpful. We saw turtles in the pond, a barred owl, lotsa birds and deer walked by too.
