The Sandbox campground was born from The Sandbox Indoor Beach Sports and Events facility, which mainly focuses on providing year round beach volleyball. We bought the property in 2015 and opened the facility in 2019. As it happens, it's a 12+ acre lot surrounded by wetlands, hiking and biking trails ... there will never be another building built within view of our facility. We are surrounded by nature, and will be forever. So what a great opportunity to offer camping and access to all of the forests, woodlands, wetlands and trails around! And if you're up for it, come play some beach volleyball and meet new lifelong friends :)

A third generation tree farmer regenerating this property to keep it as a land sanctuary for humanity and wildlife to thrive in harmony. This is a project of my brother and I, to create a healing center / space for people to come connect with the land. ***We are not part of the winery adjacent to our property*** We keep the land as wild, minimum maintenance/ human disturbance as possible. We have just built a deck to put a yurt on site for healing sessions. I am a cranial sacral therapist and did my yoga teacher training in India, taught in India, Australia, Hawaii, now RI! If you are interested in sessions please reach out to me. I host women's gatherings here on the land as well as seasonal celebrations (solstice and equinox). Creating common unity. tribe.visionaryfund.com/leydensregeneration All money through hipcamp and visionary fund goes directly towards the land... Regeneration, planting, maintaining, taxes and future projects awaiting to be funded! Thank you. Step 1: get people back on it. Come live off grid for a bit in West Greenwich. Must have your own water, head lamps; respect for the land. 1.5 hour drive from Boston 3 hour drive from NYC 40 minutes to Providence, Newport, Mystic CT. and all RI beaches. ENJOY :)

Hither Hills State Park camping guide

Overview

About

Within easy reach of the bustling Montauk scene, Hither Hills State Park lies on the southeastern edge of Long Island. The unique walking dunes of Napeague Harbor face the bay side of the island and offer a spectacular view: the dunes, which reach up to eight stories, ‘walk’ as strong coastal winds gradually blow the sand to the southeast.  Anglers can fish year-round, either on the ocean or bayside, and the park also has bridle paths and hiking, nature, biking, and cross-country ski trails. Campers can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves at the oceanfront, 189-site Hither Hills State Park Campgrounds

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. As it is next to Montauk, this park is very popular in summer, so booking far in advance is highly recommended.
  2. Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to nine months in advance.
  3. In peak season, from mid-June to mid-September, there is a seven-day minimum stay policy.

When to go

Summer is the busiest time at Hither Hills and nearby Montauk, so is best avoided if you don’t enjoy crowds. Visiting in May or late September offers good weather but fewer people—and you’ll still be able to enjoy all the activities on offer. If you don’t mind the cold and wind, winter guarantees a crowd-free experience and the opportunity for cross-country skiing.

Know before you go

  • If you need to stock up on supplies, you’ll find a handful of small grocery stores in Montauk.
  • Motor homes, pop-ups, and trailers are not allowed in the parking lot Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
  • Pets are not permitted in the park.
  • There is a fee for vehicles entering the park. If you plan to visit multiple New York state parks, buying an Empire Pass card can save you money.
