Barbless hooks are required (you can file them off, let us know we can help). Adults are fly rod only, Kids are fly or spinning rod. No is license required for the pond. The Brook requires an CT state fishing license and trout stamp to fish. Never fly fished... don't worry we can help. Check out addons below.

The octagon is a private 122 ft.² that is electrified and heated. It has a full size bed, cabinet and table with chairs. It sits next to a brook on 56 acres of forest with a pond, small waterfall, marsh and 2 1/2 miles of hiking trails. There is a fire pit and outdoor dining area next to the octagon. We also have a propane outdoor grill and propane two burner camp stove. Out house with composting toilet close to octagon is heated. A great place to rejuvenate in the forest! Dogs welcome.

Absolutely loved our stay at Getaway Ranch. The property is beautiful, peaceful, well maintained. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the owners genuinely care about creating a relaxing and memorable experience. Beautiful birds singing around the clock.
The atmosphere was the perfect mix of quiet, comfort, and rustic charm without sacrificing quality or cleanliness. Everything felt thoughtfully done, especially outdoor spaces and overall attention to detail. There is an indoor bathroom with a shower available for use and we could park right at the camp site. Saw others with kayaks in the pond. The host had a tent and air mattress set up. Had a lot of privacy nothing else besides nature around our camp site.
What really stood out was how easy it was to completely disconnect, recharge, and actually enjoy the experience without stress or distractions. Whether you’re looking for a weekend escape, family trip, or just a quiet reset, this place delivers.
You can tell a lot of love and effort went into creating Getaway Ranch, and it shows. We left already talking about coming back. Highly recommend. 😎

We had an amazing stay at Peconic River Campgrounds and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing camping getaway on Long Island. The campground was clean, peaceful, and very well maintained, with spacious sites and a welcoming atmosphere for families, couples, car campers, and pet owners alike.
The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and Tyler was especially very responsive and accommodating whenever we had questions or needed assistance. The location was perfect for enjoying nature while still being close to nearby towns and attractions. We especially enjoyed the lake and the scenic walking trails, which made it easy to relax, unwind, and enjoy the outdoors. It was also great to find such a pet-friendly campground where dogs are welcome and there’s plenty of space to walk and explore. The wooded surroundings and peaceful environment really added to the overall experience.
Whether you’re tent camping, RV camping, or car camping with your pets, this campground offers a great balance of comfort and outdoor adventure. We’ll definitely be returning in the future!

We went camping in a tent. It was really great and relaxing. Pretty secluded. You could hear some road noise. We did hear coyotes in the middle of the night which was exciting. There were lots of ticks so bring your spray. If you wanna get away where you can relax and not be bothered by a single soul this is the place to come!

I’ve camped here a few times, I’ve already left stellar reviews so I’ll just post a few pics of tent camping here. Road noise can be a little bit loud at times but it does die down and nature’s sounds take over.

Mackenzie and the rest of the volunteers and staff we met were super friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Terrasphere and it was a really unique experience. The site was really well appointed with lights and electricity and a grill and all the other amenities that we need for the stay which made it really easy for us to set up camp and everybody had a great time. The horses are really beautiful, and the grounds are really beautiful. Would definitely recommend for a family or for a group event.

2 nights at Glamping with the Wild Horses
We loved Wild Ride and MacKenzie was a wonderful host. She was very accommodating and welcoming and we loved learning about the gentling process there, being able to observe her teen gentling class and participate in afternoon feed bags. We did the VIP tour and loved it. The domes are pretty close to each other but we were the only ones there at the time so can't comment on how it would be with others next door. They were comfy and nicely decorated with chargers. It was very cool to wake up to find the herd right near the campsites feeding and observe them. I don't think I would stay again during the winter - or at least would do it differently. The dome was nice and warm with the woodburning stove going but the stove in there was so small we had to feed it every 2 hours so didn't get much sleep. But when MacKenzie heard that she offered to switch us into another dome with a larger woodburning stove and seemed inclined to upgrade the size of that stove in the future for winter camping. There is no running water in the winter season which makes cooking challenging. There is just a cooler there as a hand-washing station but no way to even get water to have a safety bucket by the fire. We would come back readily in the summer but if we were going to camp in the winter we would instead just plan on going out for meals as cooking with the winter setup was hard. Overall a great stay, a unique experience and a great mother-daughter bonding trip! Thanks so much MacKenzie.

I love the platform for tents camping on the Zichichi Family farm. It was so quiet and peaceful. The rolling water sounds of the brook makes for peaceful sleep. The site was clean and directions were easy to follow.

This was a great place. The site was well maintained with clean bathrooms, access to Fire pits, tables, chairs and lots of River access for fishing. Tyler came by, checked on us and offered fire wood. Thanks Tyler, we will be back.

Overview
About
Within easy reach of the bustling Montauk scene, Hither Hills State Park lies on the southeastern edge of Long Island. The unique walking dunes of Napeague Harbor face the bay side of the island and offer a spectacular view: the dunes, which reach up to eight stories, ‘walk’ as strong coastal winds gradually blow the sand to the southeast. Anglers can fish year-round, either on the ocean or bayside, and the park also has bridle paths and hiking, nature, biking, and cross-country ski trails. Campers can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves at the oceanfront, 189-site Hither Hills State Park Campgrounds.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- As it is next to Montauk, this park is very popular in summer, so booking far in advance is highly recommended.
- Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to nine months in advance.
- In peak season, from mid-June to mid-September, there is a seven-day minimum stay policy.
When to go
Summer is the busiest time at Hither Hills and nearby Montauk, so is best avoided if you don’t enjoy crowds. Visiting in May or late September offers good weather but fewer people—and you’ll still be able to enjoy all the activities on offer. If you don’t mind the cold and wind, winter guarantees a crowd-free experience and the opportunity for cross-country skiing.
Know before you go
- If you need to stock up on supplies, you’ll find a handful of small grocery stores in Montauk.
- Motor homes, pop-ups, and trailers are not allowed in the parking lot Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
- Pets are not permitted in the park.
- There is a fee for vehicles entering the park. If you plan to visit multiple New York state parks, buying an Empire Pass card can save you money.

Did Memorial Day weekend 2014, 3 days mid-September 2015. Awesome place. Very difficult to get a reservation peak season, you have about a minute at 9am Sunday 9 months in advance. You have the beach steps away and across Old Montauk Highway the main part of the park which has miles of hiking trails. If you are going to be there a few days invest in a Sunshade, the campsites are almost devoid of trees. Also, as soon as the sunsets moisture from the Ocean coats everything (it dries at sunrise) so keep your tents rainfly zipped shut to keep your sleeping gear dry.
