Perfect spot! Feels like wilderness but there are actually houses all around. Plenty of hiking too. Read the other reviews on the driveway- it’s not that bad! Arriving by daylight advised.

The camp spot at Ricks place was peaceful and quiet. We had it all to ourselves and enjoyed having electric and water hookups in a private setting.

We had a great stay in Rick’s land. It was an incredibly easy pull in spot surrounded by privacy. It was a perfect stopping point on our way to Maine. Thank you for the restful sleep and beautiful scenery. Will stay again.

This place was perfect for our overnight pass through stay. It has water and electric hookups and a nice fire pit. No restroom facilities so prepare accordingly. Super easy to find and even though you are kind of in a neighborhood you feel very much secluded in nature. Highly recommend

Hartwoods was a perfect spot for our two night stay. It was secluded enough, peaceful, spacious and very well maintained. Google Maps took us further than the actual spot.

Hartwoods was the perfect spot for us to land for 4 nights while visiting family in New Haven. The property is private, well kept, beautiful, and a short walk away from the New England Trail. The host was quick to respond to questions. Our dog enjoyed the open space and being off leash. We also enjoyed being able to drive to the quaint harbor towns like Mystic for lobster and fresh cider. There was some noise from the Sportman’s Association rifle range down the road, but not enough to be an issue. We would definitely recommend Hartwoods, and hope to stay there again in the future.

Very peaceful and secluded spot! It was perfect for us and our 2 dogs! Wish we could’ve stayed longer but it was a great spot to put our camper for a few days! Would definitely come stay here again if we are in the area again! 😊

We loved camping at Rick’s land. It was very clean, level and peaceful. Our dogs had a great time and enjoyed the outdoor. The firepit is also great and we cooked the majority of our meals over the campfire and tasted delicious! We look forward to returning soon! Rick was also a great and responsive host and ensured we really had everything we needed and had a great and relaxing time.

I carefully read reviews before booking & a review said don't turn at the white sign turn at the brown. we got there late and it was dark but we found the brown sign & turned to go to the site. We didn't receive any instructions from the owner that were different and told him when we would be arriving, so he was aware it would be dark. this site has 2 entrances and both signs are now brown. one has reflectors around it and the other doesn't. Basically we turned at the 1st turn unknowingly and thankfully had ryobi lights with us so after we got wedged between several trees were able to light the area up to back out. we are very lucky my husband is an expert driver or we would have been stranded. we had to walk around at night in an area knowing there could be dangerous wild animals near. found the second entrance and it was so narrow we had a truck tire go off a small drop off . again thankful my husband is such a great driver he was able to use 4wd to pull us out. for reference this site is advertising as accommodating vehicles under 60 feet we are 54.5 ft from truck to tail. this site is misadvertised. it could accommodate rigs if a small handful of trees were removed. this site is in the woods & very private, but I don't suggest you booking it if you could possibly be arriving at dark or with a rig over 40 ft. it was nice to see there was a small amount of firewood left by the firepit. also water pressure very poor glad we were only staying for 1 night so no shower needed

This property is, Absolutely, Beautiful. Lots of room. If you are towing, take the second entrance. If your rig is longer the 35-38’ this may become challenging to get in. But once you’re in, you feel like the whole woods is yours! It’s amazing how close the freeway is, but it felt like we were hours from town.

Privacy and Hiking near New England

Very nice campsite! The water and electric hookups worked great, with good water pressure. Finding the site was easy, and while some comments suggested using the second entrance, we found that with the loop drive, either entrance worked well as long as your rig isn't too large to make the turns. We were able to park two 14-foot travel trailers in the space with plenty of room.
We had the entire property to ourselves, with no one staying in the yurt. Even if there had been, other than a shared driveway, we would have had our privacy. The spot was quiet, located along a road that leads only to a state forest and a gun club, so there was very little traffic. A big bonus was being able to walk directly to the New England Trail! We also had good AT&T cell service. The site has a decent amount of shade, though we wish we had parked a bit closer to the second entrance (away from the hookups using longer cords/hoses) because there was more afternoon shade on that half.
Overall, it's a great property, and the host, Rick, was extremely responsive and helpful with all our questions. We will definitely be back when we're in the area!

We really enjoyed the two days we spent at Hart Woods! Beautiful property and very well maintained. Peaceful nights with relatively no noise except nature! Would definitely stay again and we even got to meet Rick’s friend Dwight!

We are fairly local, but we wanted to give our rig a shakedown run, so the Hartwoods location was perfect for us.
We loved the private, quiet space, and the clean gravel parking spot. We were mostly bug free, which is surprisingly nice for this area. The water and 30A electric were great, too.
Future visitors need to know a couple of key things:
First, your GPS will take you WAY past the entrance, so keep your eyes peeled long before you think you should.
Second, heed the advice about picking the correct entrance. The first one has a white sign, but if you have a travel trailer, do NOT go in that way. You will want to take the SECOND entrance that is near the brown sign (with reflectors on it).
Third: take it slow and easy as you enter and leave with your rig. The turns include some trees that can add a little challenge. Take your time and be smart, and you’ll do well.
For what it’s worth, after a brief attempt at also visiting the local state park campground (super crowded with tons of obnoxious people), we know that Hartwoods is EXACTLY the kind of quiet, relaxing campsite we need in the future.

What a great campsite in the middle of a very charming stretch of Connecticut! The check in was easy and accommodating (even when we arrived after 1am) and the site is well maintained. I loved that it was a pull through spot! One thing is there’s no picnic table so might want to pack a folding table!

It was a very peaceful place, but really didn’t have anywhere to run our dogs. Paths were somewhat overgrown. Also they have septic there, but locked and not part of the price although for the cost, it should be available at least for grey discharge.

This was a very private site with water and electrical hookups - perfect for testing out our RV chops as first-timers! Our dog appreciated being off-leash as well, a luxury he’s not typically afforded.

We truly had a wonderful time, Rick was a great host, made sure we were doing ok which I appreciate. Site was great and easy to get too. I think I loved the firepit the most it was huge. Highly recommend bringing outdoor carpet as the site is gravel.

Quiet and peaceful spot. Nice level gravel site. I pulled in my 23’ trailer. Go to second entrance as it was easier. I would stay again. The town is wonderful.

The campsite was great and we set up our tent right next to our car. Although we couldn’t find firewood to use for our campfire we used the bark and it was a good starter. Very calm and peaceful vibe 10/10

This was a lovely place for us to stay with our Aliner Evolution 15 while we visited our Connecticut family members for the weekend. We drove from Cleveland with our camper (a long drive) and we were especially grateful for the electric hookup and the privacy of the property. This site will be our #1 choice when we return to visit family in the future!

Beautiful woods, so quiet, private and immaculately clean! This was a lovely one night stop for us on our way back from a competition in RI. FYI: the road in is quite narrow and my GPS took my 1/4 mi past the drive to a gated dead end. Thank heavens my trailer is small and I can do a 3 point turn! There is a sign on a tree next to the entry but sign is small and same color as the tree. My eyes are old. Lol. Other than that it was gorgeous!
