This is a beautiful piece of property located in the heart of the Finger Lakes and Wine Country of NY. It features a stunning spring fed waterfall and nice forest land. Very close to town but also very secluded and private. Great place to unwind and relax from our everyday lives. It is situated however in a gully next to a creek and waterfall so it is susceptible to heavy rains. It is recommended to at least have an AWD vehicle if rainy. I can usually help campers with getting to the site in my side X side if you need to park up at the pasture. Please order enough wood initially as I have found I spend a lot of time delivering extra wood to campers. It seems as if you will typically go through 2 bundles per night on average. Also I supply a contractor size garbage bag to you if you choose garbage removal. It is also a good idea to text me when you have a solid ETA so I can be here to take you to the site. I want to mention that the two sites closest to the waterfall are a slight hike in and can only accommodate up to 4 person tents so if a bigger group or vehicle camping you will be placed at another site. The cabin was built with respect for the environment. We constructed it with locally harvested and milled lumber and approached the build with minimal impact on the surrounding forest. The cabin is off grid and uses a small solar panel which charges a battery for the water heater and a light. We utilize rain water for the shower and sink which collects in a large tank. We have three camp sites on a 200-acre parcel of secluded, rural farm land. We are a working pasture based farm where you can see how grass fed beef, pork, chicken, and eggs are produced. There's nothing quite like fresh eggs and bacon after waking up to the sunrise over a fog-filled valley!
When you arrive we will provide a complimentary carton of pastured raised eggs and you are welcome to visit our web site (redhouseranch . net) or store to order meats for your stay and/or to take with you upon your departure. We have a wide variety of grass fed beef, pasture raised pork, snack sticks for long hikes, and dog bones and smoked treats for your furry friends. Many of our items are well suited for campfire cooking. Keep in mind that all our products are frozen so be sure to plan for time to thaw. If you're not sure what that involves - we're here to help.
We are a working farm but, much of our property is not grazed or farmed. You are welcome to explore the entire area while also getting a glimpse of sustainable, pasture-based, farming methods. Learn more about us and the history of the farm at our website.
As you roam the hills and forests you'll eventually bump into some of our animals. Please do not enter the animal enclosures or touch any of the electrified fence lines. If you really want to pet a piggie or hold a chicken - just reach out to Ike or Dave and we will gladly arrange this for you.
Red House Ranch is also the perfect spot for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers. During your stay you may encounter eagles, blue herons, coyotes, turtles, wild turkeys, foxes, the endangered bobolink bird (its unique call sounds a bit like R2D2), deer, great horned owls, and many unique plants. It's not uncommon to hear the coyotes howling at night.
In addition to hiking trails with incredible views, there are four ponds on the property easily accessible with mown paths. One is very large with a dock and suitable for swimming, paddling, fishing, or just relaxing but the water. The other three are smaller and are now primarily wildlife habitat. easily accessible with mown paths
If you're feeling adventurous, there is a more strenuous hike down into the creek bed where you can find miniature versions of the gorges and waterfalls that our region is known for. We are happy to provide maps and guidance or leave you to your own devices.
When skies are clear our area has very little light pollution and excellent star visibility. It's a great place to view the night sky during a meteor shower.

A step up from glamping, the "Shack" is a rustic, bohemian 2-story cabin/ art studio on a property that was formerly a train station. The property has 3 cottages on it and is situated across the street from Cayuga Lake in a secret wild garden, but is a 6 minute drive to downtown Ithaca Commons.
This cottage is not for everyone. It is a cheap option in a cute, very bare bones cottage. It is best suited for low maintenance, easy travelers who are looking for an inexpensive place to crash after a long day of exploring.
Guests who stay in the Shack share the bathroom in the main house with me - the bathroom has a separate entrance from the one I use in the main house.
The cabin consists of 2 rooms - the upstairs has a double sized futon and a single futon mattress that can be used for guests, and the downstairs is a lounge/studio area.
Note that the bedroom is accesses via a ladder type staircase. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but for the right fit it is the perfect home base to explore Ithaca's many spenders, ideally located across the street from Stewart Park and the trailhead to the Cayuga Waterfront Trail. and a short walk to the Stewart Park/downtown bus line and the East Shore swimming beach.
Note, there is a cat who lives on the property and he sometimes comes to visit this studio. I see guests inviting him in occasionally to visit. If you're allergic, this isn't a good option for you.

Towner's Country Paradise started out as a wild forest and pasture for cows in the 1940's, owned by Llewellyn Towner. In the 1960s, Llewellyn's love for aviation led him to construct a small airstrip and hangar, and then his son Terry began to plant Christmas Trees (no more cows) and clear much of the land. Weekend Trip to Waterfall Creek
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin, close to an outhouse, a creek, and a stunning waterfall a small walk away. The cabin was well equipped with a fire pit, chairs, grill grate, hanging lights, firewood chopping station, and table.
The listing says there’s a watering can for bathing near the waterfall but there were some campers there so ended up bathing in the stream which worked well. Cute horses in the paddock coming into the property :)

Allison and Randy are such kind and generous hosts, they really make you feel welcome and comfortable. This was our third time camping with them and hopefully not the last! Spending time with their goats and other livestock is a real treat, but so it taking walks along their trails and soaking up the beautiful views. We highly recommend this site!

We had a nice weekend in South Hill Cider. Cute setup, picnic table and Adirondack chairs with a fire pit. Our toilet tent did not hold up, but the canvas tent itself was able to withstand the heavy t-storm we got that weekend.

My family stayed at the cabin at Towner's over the 4th of July weekend and we have very few notes on what could have made this a better time. Everything was so wonderful and Scott has thought of so many little amenities. The kids were never bored! We've already decided to make this an annual vacation spot.

Weekend Trip to Haven in the trees
We loved the cabin it was very cozy and each morning felt so relaxing, it was a nice secluded area. The outside was also very nice, we even found a small frog and chipmunks nearby. Also our host J was very genuine and sweet and acamodating. He made settling into the cabin very easy going. We definitely look forward to coming back again at another time! It was a literal heaven in the woods.

This was our second time staying and both trips have been great. The cabin is clean and nicely nestled away from any distractions. Sleeping to a river or the rainfall each night and being able to cook and spend our evening around the fire was incredible and we plan to return again in the future

We had a wonderful stay at this campsite over the weekend. The campground was clean, well-maintained, and offered a peaceful atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy nature. Randy, Allisson & their 2 dogs, Remington & Stormy and their friendly cat Mitzy run an amazing small country & hilly farm.
Our rainy stay in the wooded cabin (no electricity, no shower) was fun and our 2 teenagers loved its uniqueness. We still managed to build a fire and BBQed outside when the sky cleared. So fun!
The built & insulation of the cabin is really amazing! Randy, we really concur with you that that little wood stove really heats up fast! And I particularly loved the red bricks on the stove which reminded me of my childhood. I used to place those at the end of the bed wrapped in newspapers to keep my feet warm in the winter. So nostalgic though we did not use them. Too hot! But nevertheless, it brought back sweet memories to me!
And we really loved the cozy interior string lights above the beds. Lovely touch!
Hearing about Randy's love for woodworking and Allison's devotion to her farm animals was such a beautiful interaction. This stay was unique and a wonderful break from our busy & comfortable life.

4 nights at Orchard and Gorge At South Hill
This spot is so serine and relaxing that we didn’t want to go home! So much attention to detail; wood chips all around the site, a perfect little pantry to put a cook stove on and food items and utensils in, even little bed side tables next to a realty comfortable queen sized bed! We stayed four nights and brought lots of water - three big camping jugs - that lasted the whole time. It poured rain one evening but the tents are so big we could fit our camp chairs and a little table in it plus we had lights and music and food, and enjoyed a cozy and completely dry evening. We showered over at the Robert H Treman state park which is 10 minutes away. Town is also 10 minutes away with so many great bars and restaurants to visit. We enjoyed hikes on the property and at various beautiful state parks close by. The evenings gave us lovely sunsets and visits of deer, bunnies, so many birds and bats in the field gobbling up mosquitos. The two tents were well spaced, farther apart than average tent sites in a camp ground. Steve was super responsive to any questions or needs we had. I could go on and on…, I highly recommend either tent site and look forward to going back!

We loved staying on the property. The cabin was so cozy for me and my dog. Even though it rained the first night, we had plenty to do and it was peaceful having the windows open to hear the water falling on the roof and near the creek. Having the entire property to ourselves made me mini retreat even more special. The waterfall was a very short hike and we were able to sit by it and in it. We saw hundreds of fireflies the night before we left. We would definitely stay here.

Weekend Trip to Waterfall Creek
The property was beautiful! My fiancee and I stayed at the cabin for a weekend. We woke up to the sight of birds bathing in the creek right next to the cabin. The water fall on the property was spectacular and fun to take a quick dip under once the day got hot enough. It's close to Watkins Glen, so within a 30 minute drive you have access to a ton of things to do. My fiancee and I hiked through Watkins Glen State Park, visited some wineries, and grabbed home made ice cream from several amazing spots. 10/10 would recommend the cabin if you want something nicer than the cabins the state park has to offer, but still want to in nature.

Wonderful place to camp!
The Hosts went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. Knowing I had my service dog, Winston, they messaged about other dogs Winston might mingle with. This made me very comfortable.

Wonderful Camping !
Before arriving, the hosts made me aware of other dogs who might mingle with my service dog, Winston. As a dog lover, I found this outreach made me very comfortable.

Even though I love this State park. The campgrounds left much to be desired. The bathrooms were filthy and the campsites were too close in proximity. I could actually deal with those two things if it weren't for the blatantly rude and disrespectful campers. My husband and I now know why so many people choose private campgrounds. If you choose to camp here, please be prepared to do your research to try and find a secluded camp site. A great place to do that is www.campadk.com

The Watkins Glen campsites are nice, clean, and private enough. The Onieda Loop is right near the Watkins Glen Race Car Track, so if you are looking for solitude, make sure to check the schedule beforehand. Both weekends we camped at Watkins Glen we could hear the cars zipping around below. The campsites are dog friendly, however the gorge trail is not. The bathroom and shower facilities are very nice and well maintained.

Definitely one of my favorite campgrounds to visit. The campsites are very clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful and the campground itself has the perfect blend of secluded space and accommodations - pool/picnic areas that are within walking distance but definitely not within earshot while on the sites.
The park also offers great hiking to the many waterfalls of Watkins Glen State Park. The trails are all well-marked and easy enough for a casual stroll to take in the amazing sights. Definitely a must visit.
