Great place for a beginners backpacking trip. We stayed at campsite #6. It was very secluded and quiet. You can walk from the coast camp sites on a short trail to the beach. Huge Beach with beautiful sand and not too many people around.

3 nights at The Mojo River Spot in the redwoods

I reserved a stay on Joelle’s land super last minute after a really hard week. She was super accommodating and welcomed me and my little pup within a few hours of booking. I got lucky and had the whole property to myself. I prob could have stayed in a cabin or an extra fancy large tent but opted for my single person on a little cliff overlooking the river. Nature did not disappoint me, I saw bald eagles, a bobcat and even a friendly river otter from my perch in the grass above the bank. If you’re into real camping-like pack it in and out-this is a good spot to tuck in. Sure, there are amenities but the real gem here is keeping it simple and enjoying the diversity of life bursting from every corner. If you’re still enough, you will be rewarded Can’t wait to make my way back and snag the island for myself! Thanks Joelle for being a great host

If you love redwoods you really can’t get a better experience than this up amongst such tall trees. Laying on the net 20+ feet in the air with fairy lights all around was a magical experience. The build felt very safe and well designed with ample guard rails around. In spite of being in a neighborhood it felt very secluded. Would highly recommend surprising your SO on a date night here!

Weekend Trip to Sleep Up High In A Redwood Tree-net

What an amazing night sleeping suspended in the redwoods on an expertly crafted tree net that not only feels secure and safe but is comfy as well. There were four of us and we had plenty of space. It was our first time camping like this so I wasn't sure what to expect but I thought it was so cool it was worth checking out. Although the space isn't completely isolated, as in you can see houses through the trees, the ring of redwoods the net is built in surrounds you creating a magical space. My 13- year-old son and his 14-year-old friend loved it. The other dad zonked out within minutes. We all agreed we would do it again. And for the lovers out there, this place is dreamy. Louis the host was prompt and clear with answering questions and directions. Two big thumbs up.

Weekend Trip to Timber Cove Campground

Beautiful location, 10/10 experience. Brenda was fantastic! Very welcoming and a great resource for points of interest in the area. Incredible value overall. Private cove to explore, relax, or launch a kayak. We harvested mussels and sea urchin at low tide (with a fishing permit). We took a 45 min day trip to Bodega Bay for some crab fishing, and ate at Fisherman’s Cove (great oysters) and fish and chips. Came back to our campsite and took hot showers (Brenda has quarters for the shower meter), and quality firewood at $12/bundle with kindling. There’s a great cafe and general store only 2 minutes drive down the street. Our campsite didn’t have water or electric, but we were free to use any open site’s water and electric hook ups. The site is right off Highway 1, but there’s little traffic by sunset. Also, the site is fairly well wind protected, and the wind generally dies down by golden hour. With the crashing waves below and incredible views, it gave for a peaceful and serene experience. We’ll absolutely be back here.

Brenda was absolutely great, very helpful and kind. The beach was amazing, the views from our site were incredible, our dog got to be off leash at the beach! We got to watch the seals on the rocks with their pups! Bathrooms were clean with coin showers! Brenda even cooked us up some muscles and brought them right to our door! We will definitely be back!

I personally loved the entire experience ! However, I do recommend coming prepared !! the site has no amenities, but I have a camping toilet with a toilet tent, which made things so much easier. Louis provided me with a little table but if you’re planning to come with a ton of food, cooking gear, supplies, cosmetics, etc, I recommend maybe even bringing a folding table as the site does not have anywhere to set your things on or for u to sit. I also recommend bringing some kind of sleeping pad to bring up into the tree with you. I’m really glad I brought two of mine bc the ropes that make the net are quite stiff and I can’t imagine sleeping directly on them for multiple nights. With my sleeping pads, sleeping bags, and wool blankets, I seriously had some of the best sleep of my life! I loveddddd sleeping in that tree so much. Heads up: you are at the end of the Host’s driveway in a mildly populated small town. So, you will hear cars, passerbyers, people cycling nearby, etc. I always pack earplugs when I’m camping, and I’m really glad I did because I ended up needing to use them to get to sleep. Other than that— the host’s cats are CRAZY CUTE. They wear these little bells around their neck, so I would hear them coming to greet me in the morning. Such a sweet way to wake up! I recommend staying here for sure, but come with everything you’d possibly need to make the set up as comfy as possible! Don’t just show up with a couple blankets and food lol. Thanks Louis !!

1 night at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Glamping

Loved our Glamping Trip to Sugar Loaf Ridge State Park. Everything very nice except I have two requests. We had a party of three at the glamping tent with 3 cars and another picnic table would have been very convenient. The other request is a dishwashing station with hot water. Many are camping in TV's and have access to dishwashing. But if your camping washing dishes can be a real challenge. But a great park and a great trip. Hope to go back soon!

Welcome to Wise Oak Farm, a unique tiny house compound on 5 acres located between Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. The stay area consists of four buildings, the main one being a super cozy tiny house built on a 16' trailer, filled with custom woodwork and unique details. It sleeps up to four and has a kitchen (sink, microwave/oven, mini fridge, and propane stove) and small dining area. Immediately adjacent is a luxury "outhouse" with full sized hot shower and a composting toilet. There is an additional converted farm shed with a pull out couch and TV to relax comfortably indoors (the "rec room"). The outdoor area consists of a breakfast patio and large barn with couches and dining table. We are just starting to develop the property as a working farm. Currently we have a dozen chickens, 30+ fruit trees, and cows pasturing in the main field. The location is fantastic for exploring the area. In the middle of wine country, it's only a thirty minute drive to the coast or to the redwoods, and one hour from San Francisco. Plus easy access to the bike path leading to both Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. Weather issues: The tiny house has heating but no AC, which is not normally an issue unless daytime temperatures are in the mid 90s or higher. Summer nighttime temps are usually in the 50s and the space cools rapidly with windows open. The rec room has both heating and AC, which can be slept in in the case of extreme temperatures. In the winter, heavy rainfall can make the stay unpleasant as you need to move outside frequently between buildings.

The Olive Farm

Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. We listed the site for up to 12 campers but feel free to reach out if your group is bigger. Please check out the newest addition of our cabin bunkhouse. Take a look at the pictures - you can add it to your stay as an extra when you book! The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward. 'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here. This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground. Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days. This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers. Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. We will always do our best to respect your space.

Finley Camp is nestled along Finley Creek in West Sonoma County. Campsites are located in open flats surrounded by Coast Doug Fir, Alder, and California Bay forests. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate, and access to a porta potty and hand washing station. The campsites are located past the end of the county road allowing for a quiet peaceful experience. Enjoy a quiet stroll on site, the surrounding communities of Bodega, Bodega Bay, Valley Ford, and Tomales, or just enjoy a quiet day in camp. Our sites are located approximately 20 minutes from Bodega Bay. The campsites are 2.5 miles from the coast and the weather can be unpredictable. As a general rule, it is very similar to that of San Francisco. All camp sites are situated in a valley that offers protection from the coastal winds. The have both morning and evening shade. Sites #2, #6, #7, and #11 have the most space, while sites #4, #7, #8, #9 and #11 offer the most privacy. Sites 1-3, any combination of 5-7, and 12-13 are well suited for groups. Other site groupings work well depending on the number of sites being reserved. Site #8 is unique in that it has a wood deck/platform for tents. There are also NO wood fires allowed at site #8 as it is under the tree canopy. A propane firepit is provided for your use. You can bring a 5 gallon propane tank from home, or a full one is available for rent on site. We have beef available for purchase from calves raised exclusively on our ranch. This beef is 100% grass fed and finished and never given grain of any kind. We have various cuts available such as steaks, ground, roasts, ribs, or other various specialty cuts. All beef is cut and wrapped by a USDA certified butcher. It is raised in an organic manner from cows that freely roam on the pastures of the coastal hills we call home. For further information or for a price sheet, please inquire with the camp host. Well behaved dogs are welcome at Finley Camp. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times while on the property. There are no exceptions to this. Finley Camp is located on an active cattle ranch and directly adjacent to a neighboring ranch with cattle. Also be sure to check out our orchard tours. The apples ripen from Late July thru late November. We'll take you to our family orchard where you can pick apples, pears, or blueberries in season and taste yummy treats out of our family garden.

Timber Cove Campground

Located right off coastal US highway 1, Timber Cove campground sits right at the edge of breathtaking, oceanside cliffs. We are situated on roughly two acres of land, with multiple campsites for tent/car camping or RV’s. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire pit and water. Electricity is available to use for an extra fee. We have separate men’s and women’s flush bathrooms, with coin-operated hot showers. We have firewood with kindling for sale on site, payable with cash or Venmo. Please take note of local fire bans, when in effect. Dog friendly, though be advised a leash is recommended as we are close to the road, but they can run leash-free down at the beach. We are located 30 minutes north of the town of Jenner, with Gualala 30 minutes to the north. Gualala has grocery stores, a post office, and some shops. Fort Ross Store is located one mile down the road, just before Timber Cove, and sells basic food necessities, drinks, sandwiches, ice and gas. Internet cell service can be spotty in our area, depending on your provider, so bring your own Starlink services if you have them. We also have access to the beach below, and offer beach camping as well. Take note that the road down to the beach is steep with uneven terrain. The weather can vary quickly here, so be sure to bring multiple layers of clothing and camp gear for various types of weather, and headlamps are useful for getting around the property at night! The Meadow Grove of Hands Full Farm

The Meadow Grove campsites are located near the historic Narrow Gauge Railroad bed on a family owned working ranch in coastal Northern California. The camp sites are nestled in a pasture and grove of mixed Eucalyptus, willow and cypress trees. The sites are perfect for tents or camper vans, or small trailers. [When we open in the spring, the grass can be 'slippery' and it is recommended you have 4WD. Around mid-June it is dried out enough for 2WD access to all sites] there are no hook-ups for RVs . Specifics about these campsites are: They each come with a picnic table. The grounds are a working ranch, so there is variations of the soil- some lumps and bumps and general natural state of a pasture v. a groomed lawn. Site #1, #2, #3, and #4 have the most level areas for parking and tent-ing. Up until mid-June, we recommend #1 for 2WD access. Campervans that do not have 4WD may have trouble accessing other sites. The ranch itself is 300 acres of rolling hills pasture, with hilltop views of the Estero Americano valley. The Meadow Grove is home to many varieties of raptors and other birds-providing excellent bird watching. Seasonally there are blackberries to fill your containers, and some hiking. We are mere minutes from the quaint towns of Valley Ford, Tomales, and Dillon Beach, and a short drive from Bodega, Bodega Bay or Marshall, Pt. Reyes Station and Inverness. Nearby attractions include: Sonoma Coast beaches, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, coastal hiking trails, local farm-to-table eateries. Inland attractions include: redwoods, wine tasting, Russian River activities and so much more. The ranch borders Hwy 1, so there is some degree of road noise. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Glamping

We have four lovely Glamping sites at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and 25 miles of hiking trails, nestled in the glorious chaparral of the Mayacama Mountain Range and Sonoma Hills, deep in the heart of wine country. The cost is $150 per night on weekends (Fri and Sat) and $125 per night on weekdays (Sun-Thurs). There is a 2-night minimum stay required between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In our family-friendly campground, our tents are 16-Foot Canvas and come with one queen-size bed, two futon lounge chairs (May be converted to twin beds), rugs, tables, lighting, and complementary firewood the first night. At no additional cost, we can add up to two twin beds to each tent upon request to sleep up to 6 people. 8 people max allowed at the campsite. The glamping sites include a picnic table, fire ring, outdoor seating, and room for additional tents if desired. All sites are easy walking distance to flush toilets and a bathhouse, with large, clean, coin operated hot shower rooms. There is no cell service in the park, but free WiFi is available at the Visitor Center. PLEASE NOTE that Bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets) IS NOT included in a standard rental, but is available as an add-on. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bedding whenever possible. Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.The tent-only campsite area is 1/4 mile hike (about 10 minutes, mostly-flat) from the parking lot and is not accessible by vehicle. Campers must park in the designated parking lot and hike into the campsite area. We provide wheelbarrows to help transport your personal items to the area. Campers are not permitted to sleep in their cars, vans, or campers in the parking lot. Minors aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult—no drop offs or pick ups permitted. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. Tents and gear are not included; please bring and pitch your own tents. Bring your own food (there is a cooler and dry food storage container) or plan to enjoy dining in Muir Beach. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. Porta-potties or composting toilets are available around the property. Soap is provided for hand washing. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. There is no running water at the campsite but there will be containers of water out there for use in hand washing, dish washing, and limited for drinking. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Please plan to bring any snacks or picnic items you’d like to enjoy while enjoying the ranch. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development and purchased by the Nature Conservancy. Slide Ranch offers camping to fund summer camp scholarships and other programs throughout the year. Per GGNRA regulations, campfires and open flames of any kind are not allowed out at the campsite meadow or inside the Geodesic Dome as there is no running water. Portable camp stoves and BBQs are strictly prohibited.

Welcome to our family land! We now offer 3 options for guests, 5 minutes from the Petrified Forest, and 10 minutes from beautiful Calistoga, mud baths, the restaurant and fun bar scene. I teach at SF State, and maintain hipcamp on my spare time to share an affordable option for travelers coming through our area, who appreciate nature and will respect our land. Our land borders Sonoma and Napa Counties, technically in Calistoga, and we boast gorgeous views and peaceful nature settings. We are a heavy nature camp: bugs, coyotes heard in the distance, etc. With the exception of Coral Cabin (which is full service), this is a "user responsible" site, essentially meaning Shaded Oak and Married Manzanitas are 'leave no trace' sites. I provide garbage bags, you pack your trash and take it to the lower garbage bins when you depart your stay. There are also supplied disinfectant towelettes, sprays and other cleaning supplies for a quick wipe down of surfaces when you leave, and if needed/preferred upon arrival. No cleaning service, no cleaning fee, guests responsible for cleaning up after themselves with supplies provided. If that's OK with you, read on! Thank you! Whaleback Ridge has 3 main sites that overlook “the Whaleback Ridge” to the North, named by my great-great grandparents who settled here 100 years ago. The top of the Whaleback Ridge is seen from the camps on the north-side far edge of our 34-acre property, and is accessible by trails (a hiking map will be sent to you upon booking). The lower, private sites, overlooking this ridgeline through the trees, are called the Shaded Oak and the Married Manzanitas - both are very rustic and outdoorsy. Shaded Oak is the only RV site (unless you rent Coral Cabin which has large flat area just outside), but is limited to shorter trailers with 4wd trucks only, or Class B RVs (see pics). The upper site, the Coral Cabin, shares the hilltop with our main house (there is a quiet, respectful family that lives there - close but private) and shared Hilltop 360 Station. Coral Cabin is the most outfitted, and is the most accessible - but also with an compost toilet outhouse, outdoor shower, sink, etc. The Coral Cabin has the best views, but everyone can also access the views by walking up to the Hilltop 360 Station, which is technically a shared space, but campers will likely have it to themselves. *We have a 14-year old dog at the Hilltop 360 Station! She is a husky-akida mix (her name is "Beautiful"), she lives in the main house with her mom and has a dog door to come and go to everything she needs. She will bark at you at first, but please don't be alarmed - she has never bitten anyone and she makes friends quickly if you call her by name and are friendly. She also loves other dogs - only been aggressive once with a dog larger than her who was aggressive. She might become your best friend, as she is very sweet the second she warms up to you. Overview of Sites (more details in site descriptions): Shaded Oak ($59/night 4ppl, more $10 each), smaller RV accessible**, a prime tent spot, propane fire ring, compost toilet "throne" at your site. Tables and chairs. Water provided for hand/dishwashing; b-y-o drinking water. Shower at shared Hilltop 360 Station. **(trailers over 10 feet likely need 4WD truck pulling it and be skilled at backing in; teardrop trailers & Class B RVs are optimal size and relatively easy to back in). Married Manzanitas Camp and Cabin ($79/night up to 6 ppl), walk-in OR high clearance vehicle only, 1 large tent spot AND access to 2-person camp cabin. Tables and chairs, 2 adirondack loungers, gas stove and limited cooking/eating utensils. Water provided for hand/dishwashing; b-y-o drinking water. Private/exclusive hot outdoor shower with redwood platform and riverstones - fed by hose at hilltop (you will have to walk up to turn on the right, red hose 1/4 turn). Compost toilet "throne" at your site. Camp cabin included! Bare bones, comes ready to throw your sleeping bag or put your own sheets and pillows on the full bed (very comfy futon) - or pitch a tent and use the cabin for storage or to chill out - or both with a larger group. Coral Cabin ($109/night +$30 cleaning, up to 2 ppl, more $10 each to pitch tent/RV), drive up to doorway, direct access to Hilltop 360 Station (kitchen, shower, tubs). Cabin has electricity, AC unit, wifi access, TV with Roku, comfy loveseat. Enjoy some interesting books. Bed comes freshly made and there is a cleaning service so no need to tidy up on departure. This is our "glamping" cabin with amazing views and walks, outdoor amenities, compost toilet just outside the cabin, hilltop shower steps away. $30 cleaning fee goes directly to cleaner. Hilltop 360 Station: a shared space (only if there are other campers) has: Outdoor kitchen with stainless countertop, running water, propane grill, electrical outlets, and wifi - access to shed with microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge with freezer, lots of plates/cookware/silverware to use. Games and books! Gas campstove is in the yellow shed attached to outdoor kitchen area. Hammocks in camp station can easily be clipped on to take a load off; second hammock also available in treehouse. And there's a swing to enjoy! Shower/tubs: The on-demand propane heated shower is right in the camp station, guarded by a privacy barrier all around except the lookout over the mountain. If you want a hot tub in either the private smaller tub or larger tub next to it, contact Dan ($10 as 'extra' if desired). Hot water turns on automatically when you turn blue dial at base of water pipe to heater. Compost toilets: there are separate seats for #1 and #2; #1 is PEE ONLY on the LOW SEAT (or blue commode at lower sites) and is over an open pit - don't put used TP here... and #2 is POO only on the HIGH SEAT atop the throne, you can put all TP here, and after your #2 ADD a scoop/layer of MULCH/DRY LEAVES (NOT DIRT) over it to completely cover sight and smell. #1 in lower seats can be covered with a scoop/layer of dirt OR leaves. Again, mulch/leaves should fully cover any sight and smell of your biz after using the thrones. Garbage: Please use the trash bags provided, tie your trash bag, and on departure deposit tied bag in the FARTHEST grey bin from the "5895" mailbox. Recycle can be deposited in the blue bin. Thank you! Other notes: You may need to rinse dishes, etc. before use as dust and spiderwebs accumulate up here. Feel free to use cleaning supplies to evict any daddy-long legs if they bother you. Want some activities? Kayak and all gear/2 life vests/ratchet strap to tie to roof ($20); tennis rackets/balls for court in town ($10); 2-4 person tent ($10/night). Games and books are free to use! - please replace as you found them. *In emergencies or stuck cars, our resident at the main house can usually help with his truck - after work hours - for a $15 emergency help fee if he's available, and has graciously done so before. Venmo him directly. But remember, Dan is the main point of contact by text and I can ask him for help. If you need WIFI to send a text, you can connect at the Hilltop 360 View Station. Wifi Info is on the google doc that I will send to your phone or email upon booking; I recommend downloading the doc to your phone in case you don't have service:) *Steer clear of the neighbors down the hill - the first house you see when you drive up the driveway. They are my cousins, and not part of hipcamp. Please do not approach the lower house or invade their privacy. This is a beautiful, serene, and peaceful spot! Camping near Novato guide

Overview

Set in the North Bay just north of San Francisco, Novato offers a wide range of cultural options for its size. Walk around the historic Old Town, sample wine, and enjoy a vibrant food scene before heading out into nature. Outdoor lovers can enjoy plenty of open spaces, wildlife parks, and three golf courses. Campers are spoiled for choice, with a wide range of public parks and beaches offering campsites along the coast, in wine country, among the redwoods, and in the bay area, in addition to the Novato Park.

Where to go

North Bay

Head to the coast to camp at Point Reyes National Seashore, where options include a boat-in campground and several hike-in sites. Just inland, camp along the Russian River at Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Camp among the redwoods at Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Explore Muir Woods, or choose from walk-in tent sites and rustic bluffside cabins at Mount Tamalpais State Park. There are four campgrounds on the Marin Headlands in Marin county, including three free, primitive backpacking campgrounds. China Camp State Park offers a scenic campground in the woodlands.

Wine Country

Head to wine country for tastings and scenic camping, often with access to cabins and full hookups. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Sonoma County offers a family-friendly campground, while the Skyline Wilderness Park near Napa offers tent, RV, and equestrian sites. Enjoy lakeside campsites with mountain views at Spring Lake Regional Park near Santa Rosa. Further north, you can camp near redwoods and a pretty stream at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, or choose from tent, RV, walk-in, and boat-in sites at Lake Sonoma. Near Lake Berryessa, options include campsites around the lake, Lake Solano Park and Lower Hunting Creek on BLM land.

San Francisco and South Bay

In San Francisco, groups can stay at walk-in campsites at the Presidio. Further south, camp near the beach at pretty Half Moon Bay State Beach. For solitude and hike-in campsites, head to Pescadero Creek County Park. There are also plenty of options for camping among the redwoods, including at Butano Redwoods State Park, Memorial County Park, Portola Redwoods State Park, Big Basin Redwoods State Park, and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

East Bay

In the East Bay, head to Mount Diablo State Park to enjoy sweeping views and three different campgrounds. At Del Valle Regional Park, enjoy water play, a variety of outdoor recreation. Overnight options include both cabins and campsites, including some RV sites with full hookups. Camp on the hillside at Anthony Chabot Regional Park with lake views or backpack into the Sunol Regional Wilderness for solitude, hikes, and wildflowers.

When to go

Spring to fall offers the most pleasant weather in Novato. From May to September, a popular farmer’s market is held weekly. Summer also sees a series of outdoor concerts and several car races. In the fall, outdoor movies are popular. Visit in the winter to forage for mushrooms. Special family-friendly events are held near the Christmas holidays.

Know before you go

There is some public transportation in and around Novato, but a car will make it easier to visit other areas in the region.
Reservations are required for certain campgrounds, and it’s best to book ahead, especially over the summer.
Permits may be required for mushroom foraging and some parks do not permit it.
Many parts of the northern California coast are not safe for swimming and there are very few lifeguards on duty.
