I had a great time here. The vibe of the place is lovely, beautifully developed. Lots of things to see and abundant handwashing stations also made me very happy! When there are not traditional bathrooms, one always expects lower facilities for hygiene. That was not the case. There were handwashing stations all throughout the ranch.
It was a lovely short hike down to the tide pools and the garden was gorgeous.
As far as the campsite, three out of four campsites on Quail Hill are very nice with a bench and a picnic bench and shade during the day. Site number four, the one I camped at, was quite lackluster. No shade, no benches at all, and the vegetation around it grows so high and close that in order to see the view of the ocean you would have to stand up. On a positive note, having the 10 x 10 platform to set up your tent is amazing, and they even have eye hooks installed on the side for tying down. There is also a bit of a “front porch” in front of the 10 x 10 platform, which is sweet.
The birds were abundant. There’s definitely a reason it is named Quail Hill. I was able to observe them from the comfort of my tent and they were so beautiful.
They charge per person for a campsite, (although 12 and under is free) which I think is a bit wild. . The walk from the parking lot is steep but short. It was relatively easy to make two trips by myself.
Poison oak is abundant, but mostly kept away from trail.
Overall, I really loved my stay. Would go again.
