Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. Situated on top of a ridge with expansive redwood forest and coastal views, the Audrey Edna Cabin provides a completely private gathering place and destination for visitors with reservations. The cabin has spectacular views of forest, sky, ocean and the Butano ridgeline. It's a short hike to 8000+ acres of county parkland where you can hike, bike and ride horses (though please note, there are no facilities for horse boarding at the cabin.) The cabin is located at Alpine Ranch, a property adjacent to Sam McDonald County Park that was protected by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). Whether you are looking for an active experience or just want to relax in a peaceful, remote setting, there's something here for everyone. This is a rustic hike-in cabin designed for a introductory pack-in experience. Bedding is not provided. It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource. *A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Occasionally, we have last-minute public weekend reservation availability due to cancellations. The cabin is reservable up to 3 months in advance, on a rolling basis. Property History: At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people. Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout. The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.

We have four lovely Glamping sites at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and 25 miles of hiking trails, nestled in the glorious chaparral of the Mayacama Mountain Range and Sonoma Hills, deep in the heart of wine country. The cost is $150 per night on weekends (Fri and Sat) and $125 per night on weekdays (Sun-Thurs). There is a 2-night minimum stay required between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In our family-friendly campground, our tents are 16-Foot Canvas and come with one queen-size bed, two futon lounge chairs (May be converted to twin beds), rugs, tables, lighting, and complementary firewood the first night. At no additional cost, we can add up to two twin beds to each tent upon request to sleep up to 6 people. 8 people max allowed at the campsite. The glamping sites include a picnic table, fire ring, outdoor seating, and room for additional tents if desired. All sites are easy walking distance to flush toilets and a bathhouse, with large, clean, coin operated hot shower rooms. There is no cell service in the park, but free WiFi is available at the Visitor Center. PLEASE NOTE that Bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets) IS NOT included in a standard rental, but is available as an add-on. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bedding whenever possible. We are so excited to find this gem. We stayed at campsite three and would highly recommend it. The add-ons were a great bonus. We have a campervan, but the tent platform overlooking the creek looked great. The fire pit had a rake, a shovel, and a fire extinguisher, which is great if you are new to campfires. We will definitely be back.

Redwood and knotty pine hand crafted 31' high tree cabin accessible by ladder only for those 18 years and older. There is a portable toilet on the wraparound deck and an electric luggage lift to get your gear up there safely. It has power and heat and a coffee maker, mini fridge, coffee, and tea. Also some cozy hooded rubs to make your way down to the hot tub in.

We loved our glamping experience at Sugarloaf SP! The tent was spacious and cozy with comfortable beds and plenty of places to sit and hang out. We rented the heater which was much appreciated when the temp dropped and some rained moved in. We appreciated our first bundle of firewood. All of the staff was very friendly and quick to help out if we needed something. They also keep the bathrooms super clean and well stocked and a short walk from any site. The center of the campground being a beautiful meadow with lots of wildlife at night and clear skies show a perfect view of the starry night. We would definitely stay again.

I enjoyed a lovely weekend in Airstream 3. The setting offers incredible views of the Pacific and the California coastline, and the arrival instructions were very clear. The airstream is comfortable, well-appointed, and includes all expected amenities aside from food. The cozy interior and the sound of the rain contributed to a very relaxing atmosphere. The only drawback is that Airstream 3 is outfitted with twin beds, which may not be ideal for couples. This wasn’t clearly noted in the online description, so it would be helpful to include that for future guests. Overall, a beautiful and memorable stay.

Bill’s land was one of the best hip camps I have ever stayed at! The Indonesian bedroom was so serene and I slept like a baby with the heated bed. The bathroom was so beautifully decorated with ornate paintings, little treasures, and the stained glass window was intricately stunning. The hot tub was a bonus and it was extremely close to the town of Petaluma and hiking trails. You definitely should stay here for a romantic getaway!

Loved camping in the redwood groves! We had a large group and the hosts were super accommodating to help us get the right setup for our party. A couple of things to note: 1 - the redwood grove campsites ABSOLUTELY require a 4WD or AWD. there is a very bumping/steep road that descends down into the meadow. 2 - the creekside campsites are essentially just parking areas for an RV. we were so lucky that the creek was low so we were able to cross by foot and enjoy the rest of the property on the other side. 3 - don't skip the redwood walking trails on the property!! super beautiful and green area. lots of banana slugs and newts to spot. bonus activity: spot the laurel bay leaf trees! 4 - there is a LOT of poison ivy around the creekside camping sites. make sure your party knows what it looks like, bring cortisone as backup, and do your best to avoid brushing against the edge of the campsite! (worst case, soap and water will help)

Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Coast Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development. Slide Ranch camping fees directly fund scholarships for youth programs throughout the year. Slide Ranch is an unpaved ranch environment. Our trails and garden paths all consist of uneven, sloping terrain, often muddy or soft ground during the winter season, and may be challenging to access for visitors with significant mobility restrictions. Minors aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. Soap is provided for hand washing. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Camping is not supported by the on-site staff. Per current GGNRA regulations, campfires and open flames of any kind are not allowed.

Finley Camp is nestled along Finley Creek in West Sonoma County. Campsites are located in open flats surrounded by Coast Doug Fir, Alder, and California Bay forests. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate, and access to a porta potty and hand washing station. The campsites are located past the end of the county road allowing for a quiet peaceful experience. Enjoy a quiet stroll on site, the surrounding communities of Bodega, Bodega Bay, Valley Ford, and Tomales, or just enjoy a quiet day in camp. Our sites are located approximately 20 minutes from Bodega Bay. The campsites are 2.5 miles from the coast and the weather can be unpredictable. As a general rule, it is very similar to that of San Francisco. All camp sites are situated in a valley that offers protection from the coastal winds. The have both morning and evening shade. Sites #2, #6, #7, and #11 have the most space, while sites #4, #7, #8, #9 and #11 offer the most privacy. Sites 1-3, any combination of 5-7, and 12-13 are well suited for groups. Other site groupings work well depending on the number of sites being reserved. Site #8 is unique in that it has a wood deck/platform for tents. There are also NO wood fires allowed at site #8 as it is under the tree canopy. A propane firepit is provided for your use. You can bring a 5 gallon propane tank from home, or a full one is available for rent on site. Well behaved dogs are welcome at Finley Camp. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times while on the property. There are no exceptions to this. Finley Camp is located on an active cattle ranch and directly adjacent to a neighboring ranch with cattle. Also be sure to check out our orchard tours! The apples are ripe now and our verities will continue to ripen thru late November. We'll take you to our family orchard where you can pick apples, pears, or blueberries in season and taste yummy treats out of our family garden.

Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. We listed the site for up to 12 campers but feel free to reach out if your group is bigger. Please check out the newest addition of our cabin bunkhouse. Take a look at the pictures - you can add it to your stay as an extra when you book! The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward. 'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here. This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground. Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days. This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers. Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. We will always do our best to respect your space.

This 60 acre property is located approximately 3 miles east of San Gregorio Beach in the San Gregorio area. There is no home here, only a travel trailer on the upper level. It is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful throughout the seasons. We are 5 minutes away from the San Gregorio General Store and cafe and 20 minutes from Alice's Restaurant. We have great cell coverage for Verizon. There are three campsites, each with easy 4WD access. Two of the sites offer total isolation with amazing views while the third site, while in a nice setting, is more useful for a quick overnight stay with no views of the ocean or canyon. Please note that five easy-going cows (no bulls) reside on this property.

We went in mid July and daytime temperatures never went above 60 due to the constant coastal fog. If you want summer weather you should go in the very late summer. We could hear the fog horns all night but it was sufficiently faint. Also I wish I had known this but DO NOT LOCATE YOUR TENT UNDER A TREE ON A FOGGY NIGHT as the fog condenses on the leaves and drips dirty water on your tent all night.

Pros: It's in an amazing and beautiful area and you get views of the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge (if it's not too foggy). It's small (3 sites) so it's kept fairly clean, including the porta-potty. It's close to the city an Sausalito! Warnings: The location by the Golden Gate Bridge also means if it is foggy you will hear fog horns. This went on for hours into the night. No campfires allowed; At night it's pitch dark, so you will need to bring a few good lanterns to hang outside the tent; unfortunately, stargazing wasn't an option since it was pretty cloudy/foggy. Lastly, there is a hill -- you park uphill and bring stuff downhill. It doesn't take long but is some work. A beautiful location if you're prepared for the cold and foghorns!

Bicentennial Campground is such a gem. It's an easy 1hr bike ride from the city and makes for a great weeknight camping trip. Remember to pickup your permit from the Marin Headlands Visitor Center before proceeding to camp. Heads up: The three campsites are very close to each other. Expect to hang with your neighbors if the other sites are booked.

This is a very unique location. Believe every word about the raccoons - they are aggressive. When we were there they ripped into a tent with a little girl eating a granola bar so if you got little ones, be watchful. There's also coyotes that yap at night - didn't see them in camp but just know they're around. That said, it's beautiful. We were there on a non-foggy night and there were fog horns not super bad. Also bring a wagon - someone mentioned wheelbarrows on-site, but we didn't see them. You can rent one a sports basement - with the few dollars. The winds can really kick-up and shift making campfires interesting. We passed the entrance to the road the first time through. If you use Waze or Google maps they do mark the right place

The best parking for Kirby cove is immediately off of the 101, before driving up the road into the Marin headlands. There is a one mile trail up the road, directly next to this parking. This will save you from the pain of the car parked with it's hazards on that follows the stream of tourists taking photos next to the Golden Gate Bridge

Once you park in the campground parking you will have to walk a ways to the campsite, there are wheel barrows to aid in this, and hay to lay on the ground for your tent and the wet foggy grass. RACCOONS WILL DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT HERE. They even ripped into my tent while I was asleep inside. The area is amazing, had deer walk through camp, all in view of the Golden Gate and city, but the raccoons are a major buzz kill. They have no boundary. Also the fog horn from the bridge will keep you up if there is fog. Bring ear plugs. Site has pit toilets, picnic tables, bear box, and fire ring.

You gotta be lucky to get a spot but it is so worth it. I had two broken ankles when I had my reservation for 1 night but I still made it out anyway. We were lucky enough to be there on a night without the blaring fog horn, but its the Bay Area, and it gets foggy sometimes so be prepared with noise canceling head wear. A WONDERFUL SCENIC VIEW from the beach!

Very accessible, with good access to beach and coastal trails. Subject to the marine layer more than most West Marin coastal locations due to its gradual grade down to the Pacific, so days that may be sunny in nearby Mill Valley many never clear at Haypress. I've twice seen bobcats along the trail to Haypress, so keep your eyes peeled.

This is one of those super hard to reserve campgrounds. But I've snagged a site with a few days notice, probably due to a cancellation, and it's worth cancelling work to go. Ear plugs can be helpful if fog and boat horns annoy you. There are usually several wheelbarrows at the parking area to haul gear, but sometimes people forget (cough) to bring them back from sites for others to use. A nice trick is to get a campsite, then reserve the day use area so your pals can come down and enjoy the beach for a day. You get some parking, and the day use area is fabulous too.

If you're looking for seclusion, you won't find it here. Bicentennial is one of 3 free sites you can reserve via permit from the Marin Headland's Visitor's Center (3 free nights per year per license plate!) and the most accessible of all three. You can only have 2 neighbors, and if you can overlook the noise of the tourists at the picnic site above as you set up camp, you're in for a great night. Push through the pines for unobstructed views of the bridge and the city all lit up as the sun sets behind you. If you're shy about answering the call of nature, there's an ancient port-a-potty adjacent to the campground, and a fancy pit toilet at the picnic grounds above. Don't forget to check out the battery ruins. Expect raccoon drive-bys.

Haypress: my ol' reliable when the camping itch strikes but I don't want to drive too far to sleep under the stars. While there is no fee (and a yearly cap on visits), permits are required and can be obtained from the Marin Headlands Visitors Center. They're open til 4pm, but if you can't make it before they close they'll stick the permit in a little drop box outside for you to pick up. At the end of Tennessee Valley Road, you'll find a large parking lot (although this will overflow on the weekends). Follow the paved path .3 miles til you see a dirt track heading back into the hills. After about .6 miles you'll find a clean pit toilet and 5 comfortable sites, all of which are excellent base camps for adventures in the Headlands.

You can reserve a site one month in advance by calling the visitor center. The site is free but only one tent per site. The hike is short(2.5mi from Tennessee trailhead parking lot) but most of it is uphill with no shade. The last 100 meter or so is a steep uphill. There's no water at the site so you'll have to bring enough for the hike to/from plus cooking. The lowest site has a great view of the headlands and you can see parts of San Francisco. The upper two sites are less secluded(you can see directly from tent to tent) and the trees block the view a bit more. All in all Hawk camp is pretty cool but definitely prepare for a tough uphill hike.
