Camping now open on our 3,200 acre private working ranch! We are located at the base of Kockernot Mesa on the HWY 118, 35 miles south of Alpine. This area was long ago settled by Native Americans, their prehistoric camps and trails can still be viewed and traveled to this day. We have been ranching on this land for over 100 years and invite you to join along for the fun. No two views are the same in Far West Texas and very few can come close to what we experience at the base of this Historic Mesa. Camp Cowboy Style in this rugged terrain, gaze at the unbelieve starry night, hike historic trails and cook dinner over an open flame just like we have for generations. You're authentic West Texas Adventure begins here. (No resorts - just the real deal.)

Indian Flats 2
Beautiful views of the surrounding desert and bluffs. We arrived late and had a hard time finding our campsite due to lack of signage and some miscommunication about which site was ours, but Jim was more than accommodating by offering a free night, PLUS a refund for one of our nights due to the inconvenience! He has what sounds like a great vision for the ranch, which we're looking forward to experiencing the next time we're down that way.

Isolation at its best
Wonderful place. Total isolation, total silence and zero light pollution to spoil looking at the stars. Spot was ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS! Lots of space to walk around. Zero bars for cell signal. Bring your own water and generator.
I would very much recommend this place and my wife and I plan to go again.

Campfire dinner
Such a beautiful place. We had a wonderful meal prepared on a open fired and an evening filled with rock collecting! Such a great time for the family.

Horses and Fires
I loved my time at the Tipi Camp site. Jim and Kirby were very accommodating and made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. The view I had just sitting in the tipi looking out was beautiful and the bed and blankets inside felt cozy. They provided some firewood that lasted throughout my stay and it was perfect weather for a fire.
One morning, Jim's horses roamed by my site to say good morning and it was very enchanting. Later that day we went for a horse ride through the property and Jim explained the history of the land and even had some old Native sites to show including an untouched directional rock formation. It was very cool. My horse, Freckles, was easy to navigate and I felt very comfortable being guided and learning from Jim and Kirby. I highly recommend signing up for the horse ride.
Overall, would love to stay again on my next trip to Terlingua. There are other tipi sites around The Ghostown but you won't have this same type of peace and solitude to enjoy.
