Find extreme solitude and unforgettable views of Guadalupe Peak at this desert escape next to Guadalupe Mountains National Park! This is choose-your-own-adventure camping. The terrain is rugged, and the dust and wind blow some nights. Once you're here, there are few amenities (unless you book our cabin, Li’l Capitan). If this sounds fine — you don't mind roughing it — you'll be sleeping under the stars at the foot of West Texas' tallest mountain range. And who else can say they've done that? BURN BAN IN EFFECT: Unfortunately, we are under a countywide burn ban. Camp among the ocotillo and yucca as you bask in epic views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak! We have three picnic tables scattered around the property and two portable toilet chairs for emergencies (no toilet paper provided). Otherwise, there are zero amenities here. No water, no shelter. Also, Far West Texas can be windy and dusty. If that's no problem, you'll have 20 acres of open desert to find your home away from home. There are plenty of rocks, so feel free to build up the fire rings! Ocotillo Grande is accessible to vehicles that have at least 6 inches of ground clearance and can handle dirt roads, so it's a great option for people who will be arriving via a typical sedan or compact SUV (unlike our site Guad Amighty, where a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required). Please note: We've received feedback that Ocotillo Grande's bumpy trails are not suitable for small cars or large RVs. Campers who enjoy their time in this special place are the ones who are self-reliant, embrace the adventure, and don't mind roughing it in the middle of nowhere. Looking for a campsite with the closest, most breathtaking views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak? Well, you found it! This site is 30 acres, and you are welcome to camp anywhere on the property. I like the spot where I put a fire pit and picnic table next to three tall yuccas. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also hike to the top of the hill for epic views in all directions (and a mere 4.5 miles from El Capitan). Totally up to you! This is a remote desert campsite, and you will have to drive a couple of miles on a sandy trail that is prone to sudden washouts. If you get stuck, it's extremely difficult to find help. Proceed with caution! Also, I recommend arriving before dark. If you don't have a high-clearance 4WD vehicle or aren't comfortable driving on uneven dirt roads, please check out our other amazing sites, Ocotillo Grande and Willow Hill. They are much closer to the highway and are also really special. For RVs, camper vans, and travel trailers, you really do need high clearance and rugged 4WD, no exceptions. Do you not even care anymore? Then you might as well camp next to our storage container. It's 50 yards off the highway and 11 miles to the Guadalupe Peak trailhead. Your car will need at least 5.5 inches of ground clearance to handle the dirt road to the site. No lowriders!

Camp on 10 secluded acres across the highway from our main gate and 9 miles from Guadalupe Mountains National Park. There are no amenities here, but you are welcome to build a fire ring and fix up your site using the rocks you find on the property. Essentially, you are pioneering the site for yourself and future campers! The camping area is brushy and is nestled between a tall hill and a large stand of desert willow trees. Large RVs and small cars beware: You have to make a tight turn at the entrance and pull through a narrow 9-foot-wide gate. Then you drive on an unmaintained dirt road to access this site. So I don't recommend large RVs. Nor do I suggest low-profile sports cars. (Mid-size sedans with normal ground clearance should be fine). Expect highway noise. Otherwise, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and you’ll have the land all to yourself! GPS coordinates: 31.7915387, -104.8639316 IMPORTANT: Willow Hill is ACROSS THE HIGHWAY from our main Good Guad gate! It's by the "Deer Crossing" sign.

Escape the elements when you stay in Li'l Capitan, our air-conditioned camp next to Guadalupe Mountains National Park! Relax on the rooftop deck and enjoy a sky full of stars, plus incredible views of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak, the tallest mountain in Texas. Our little shelter has two bed platforms (one queen-sized and one twin). We also have a convenient outhouse. Important: BYO bedding, water, and toilet paper! There's plenty of room to sleep on the roof and lots of land for tents if you have a large group. Limited RV access: The entrance is probably too steep for large RVs. Our driveway is unpaved, so you’ll need a car with typical ground clearance (no low-riders). GPS coordinates: 31.7879161, -104.871603

This place is in a perfect spot. It’s got the best view of the mountain. I did not end up spending the night. I went to capture Milky Way shots and I mainly hung out on top of the container. It was perfect. I would absolutely come again with the intention of spending the night.

Spectacular Views to Guadalupe Peak

We had an amazing stay at Wes's campsite. The views are absolutely spectacular, with beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and panoramic scenery in every direction. The site is peaceful, private, and a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We celebrated my nephew's birthday during our trip, and the campsite was one of the highlights of the weekend. Its location is also very convenient just a short drive from Guadalupe Peak, making it an excellent base camp for hiking and exploring the area. Wes was a pleasure to work with. He was responsive, accommodating, and made everything easy from booking through arrival. Although there is a highway nearby, we did not find the noise to be an issue at all. The site remained quiet and enjoyable throughout our stay. The availability of AC was also a very welcome feature. The standout feature, however, is the incredible view from the deck in the afternoon and evening. We could have sat there for hours taking it all in. We highly recommend this campsite and will definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The camp spot was magnificent! It had 360° views, lots of solitude and it was quiet and peaceful! We wanted to come and stay a second night but it was storming really bad so we opted for a hotel. That said we will definitely be back! Wes was a pleasure to deal with and he was very responsive accommodating. I highly recommend this camp spot!

This place was awesome, even with the highway being not too far. You hear some vehicles every now and then but late at night they stop coming through. It’s in a spot with a great view of the mountains and stars! The lack of amenities and manmade structures makes you feel like you’re in the middle of no where which is definitely preferred if you’re camping. Absolutely awesome spot, gave us exactly what we were looking for, a raw camping experience.

Li'l Capitan Cabin was a great place to enjoy the views of the Guadalupe Mountains and the night sky out on the top deck. We stayed nice and cool inside during the day. Bring what you'll need for the stay. It's a long drive to the nearest store. Overall a great place.

Our Stay at Wes's Guad A'mighty

The Guad A'mighty camp sight is the perfect spot for anyone looking to get away and soak in mountain views and deep dark skies. Wes's communication was more than timely and professional. Directions were clear and precise, and the camp spot offered a rock fire pit as well as picknick table. This camp site in specific, mentions that 4x4 is required. I was able to get my Jeep Trailhawk down the trail without having to activate its 4x4. HOWEVER, as depicted in my photos if it were to rain or you have a lower vehicle you might want to choose one of Wes's other spots! With that being said, if you have an Overlander build its perfect for you!

This was a perfect spot to camp in our storyteller rig overnight while visiting Guadalupe Mountains NP! It was only 8 mins from the park to the gate. Wes was very prompt with his responses, and his directions and map made it easy for us to find the campsite. You have a beautiful view of the mountains in the park from the campsite and can watch the sunrise and set against the peaks.

Highly recommend: location close to Guadalupe NP & not far from Carlsbad. Loved the sunrises and sunsets; electric; air conditioning. We camped 3 nights at NP campground and then did 2 nights at Lil Capitan. Last night was super windy so glad to not be in tent. Solar lights near entrance make easy find from road at night. hint: if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs; road noise.

Amazingly beautiful view of Guadalupe. Felt very remote, yet it was a quick drive to the mountains and Carlsbad Caverns. Also super close to the salt flats. Very pricey for basic camping with limited amenities, but we booked last minute, and it was the only campground available nearby. Decently clean. Communication from the owner was swift and useful. I liked the security of camping behind a locked gate, and the convenience of being able to leave our stuff at Good Guad. Would definitely come again.

Love the remoteness of the site, but also still close to the national park which we hiked in everyday. Site was easy to get to awesome views to just sit and look at. I will be returning each time I plan hiking trip to the Guads!
