Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently I am almost always on the property and try to have my phone with me while campers are on site, just let me know what you need and I will do what I can to accommodate you. The field leads down to incredible cypress trees lining the Medina River. We also have a primitive camping area down by the river that requires you to park in a parking area and walk to your preferred camping spot. If you are looking for solitude and untouched nature, this is the place for you. The comforts of Bandera are conveniently only a 5 minute drive away. We are located less than 2 miles from Bandera City Park! At this time, all sites are completely dry. We do have porta-potties available. RV sites are boondocking only (no water or electric at this time.) Our slice of land on the Medina River is truly gorgeous! There are beautiful cypress trees that are magical year round, and there are often small rapids. If relaxing in the shade by the river and dipping your feet in is your thing, our property is perfect for that! However, this is not a swimming hole. The Medina River is generally not considered safe in Bandera, TX, due to consistent low flow. Swim at your own risk.

The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

We offer a uniquely secluded setting with stunning views of the Chisos Mountains. Located just 7 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, and 10 miles from the visitors' center at Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. . These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently I am almost always on the property and try to have my phone with me while campers are on site, just let me know what you need and I will do what I can to accommodate you. There are beautiful cypress trees that are magical year round, and there are often small rapids. The Medina River is generally not considered safe in Bandera, TX, due to consistent low flow. Swim at your own risk.

I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

Located just 7 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, and 10 miles from the visitors' center at Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

My family of 5 plus a dog rolled in to our campsite early afternoon and had no trouble finding it with Lauren's helpful instructions. The site is surrounded on 3 sides by a steep drop into arroyos - worth noting if you have kids. The older kids (6 and 8) loved scrambling up and down and all around but it was too steep for the littlest one. The tent site was level and relatively free of big rocks, the ground is hard scrabble so you will probably want your tent pegs that screw in or maybe your mallet. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed wandering around on the property every night after dinner. The potty is far enough away that you will probably want to drive if you have little kids who can't hold it for a 10 minute walk, but we enjoyed being far enough away that we felt truly in the middle of nowhere. The other campsites aren't far, but they are far enough that you don't need to interact with your neighbors. Our pup enjoyed running around the place as much as the kids.

We had a wonderful time calling Ellie’s place “home” for a night. With all the comforts at your fingertips, the travel trailer worked perfect for our NYE visit. We will definitely return to Bandera soon, and will absolutely look to rent with Ellie Again.

Place was very peaceful and secluded. The trails were beautiful and the pond was well stocked for good fishing (catch and release of course). 10/10 would highly recommend for those trying to get away from the hustle and bustle and see some stars.

We loved our stay at 5D ranch! Julie is laid back and helpful when you need her. The campsites are secluded and private. We were near the outhouse on this trip which was a unique experience. And the campsite dog, Abba, hung out with our group the entire weekend and ensured no wild animals approached our site. Wonderful time as always, and we will be back!

We had a great stay! Billy was a great host. He met us at the front of the property and drove us down to our spot. He even upgraded us as it was our first time using Hipcamp. The camp sites are very spaced out, so you feel like you have the whole area to yourself. Recommend bringing a camping toilet. We will definitely be going back!

A small folding trailer can get into this site - tall campers would need to watch for tree branches.

We stay at this property often, so I decided to try the campsite on the "other" side of the creek. It was a scenic and peaceful spot. The trails around the ranch are always a great morning hike. Lots of deer and turkeys around. Thanks again for hosting!

Awesome little oasis! A quick weekend get away was not enough! Plus the restrooms were beautiful, clean and a great plus. We were what it seemed like away from it all but still had a cell signal. There was so much to do, trails, beautiful pond, horse shoe, geocache and more! 5/5 stars and more.

Lovely little spot on William's property. Hiking trails throughout the property with a few other campsites. We enjoyed the view and the ease of access! Great for an Austin getaway in just about an hour.

This was our second stay here, and we’re glad we came back. The first trip was about 50% rain, so we wanted to come back and fully enjoy Blasingame Camp. William and the Gray family are super friendly, the property is beautiful and very private, and there’s plenty to keep adults/kids/pup entertained without leaving. Being close to Blanco Square is a big bonus, and the bathroom upgrade since our last visit was much appreciated. Highly recommend — we’ll be back.
