About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. NO FISHING As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Come stay on our 100 acre Richard Creek Valley getaway, gently tucked away on the north slope. There are four campsites on the property and they are all at least 150 yards away from each other. Each site is private. When the ground is dry there is access for all vehicles. When the ground is muddy, Brookside, RiverRock, and Richardson Creek campsites require a 4-wheel drive and have alternate routes to get to them. Ancient Oaks is an all-weather site. You can enjoy hiking and swimming in Richardson Creek when water levels permit. Canoeing from Bakers Crossing put-in which is only 3 miles away. You will leave with red dirt on your vehicle but that's part of the appeal, the secluded getaway :) Once you start down the driveway you'll see the lake through the trees, making the rough 5-mile ride worth it.

Our goals are to establish a thriving community, grow most of our own food, build tiny houses to rent or sell, create sustainability and be as self sufficient as possible, salvage material for builds, host events and retreats, teach classes, and more. Please feel free to ask questions and share any interest you may have in what we are doing here. Our property is a densely forested 85 acres with a walk-able 2 miles around the perimeter of the property and many trails and hidden nooks to explore throughout the heart of this beautiful escape back to our natural roots. We are in the process of mapping out the trails- which we plan to make available soon! For now those of you with a sense of adventure and desire to explore will certainly be satisfied. We have a full acre size pond and a kayak that you can feel free to use. There is a communal area around the pond that we will be adding to in the near future- you may run into some of our community members or other campers there from time to time, we invite you to socialize, bring a chair, perhaps a beverage or snack and get to know each other and us as well if we cross paths! You will observe and encounter wildlife in abundance including a variety of birds, wild hogs, opossums, armadillo, moles, spiders, scorpions, butterflies, praying mantis, walking sticks, snakes- keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and copperheads, deer, many insects, and more. Please be cautious and treat these creatures' home with respect for them as well as yourselves. Our property is also home to some lovely cows, chickens, a few dogs, and several cats- they (other than the cows who do what they please) generally remain in areas away from our camp sites though they may still decide to stop by to say hello! We have many spaces available for camping throughout the property. These are primitive campsites on raw land so you will need to provide your own tent, water, food, and operate with a leave no trace mentality when camping here. There are areas that can accommodate large groups of campers as well as very secluded nooks if you are looking for a private retreat into nature. There is plenty of fallen wood available for firewood and a fire pit will be prepared for you before arrival!

The Ranch is our place we like to go when we need to get away. It's raw and it's nice land to camp, explore and enjoy wildlife. We have a Wildlife Exemption on the property and enjoy managing native song birds. We keep a constant flow of bird seed located in feeders around the ranch, and we have seen all kinds of birds making this a great place for birders. The ranch has nice elevation changes with a wet weather creek that traverses the property. There are some trails to hike or mountain bike. The cabin is rustic without plumbing or electricity, but we enjoy it and it's fun to think it's everything we would need. This is off-grid living all the way, and we are constantly learning new and better ways to do things. The cabin is located on the very first spot we pitched a tent after purchasing the land, and we continue to make improvements as we go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Weekend Trip to Dinosaur Valley RV Park

The cabin was very clean and well appointed. All of the basics including linens were provided. This is a large RV resort with an adult pool and a family pool, which is nice. It is directly across the street from dinosaur world, a walk-through dinosaur park with over 75 life-size dinosaur replicas. The state park allows you to view real dinosaur footprints, along with swimming, biking, hiking opportunities. Very close to Glen Rose for supplies. Fossil rim, a drive-through nature zoo, is minutes away. Definitely kid and family friendly RV park.

Loved the rustic cabin I can tell a lot of work and care went into this location. I wondered around the land for several hours to look at all the plant and wildlife and was not disappointed. The donkey’s were curious about me as a visitor but quickly lost interest and meandered away when they found out I didn’t have any approved treats for them. I had a wonderful time of rest and disconnection from society.

King and 2 twin beds, plus table that seats 4. Outhouse is 30 ft from front porch,
and enclosed but open to the sky hot water shower is around behind the bungalow.

Super friendly hosts. Laid-back environment and felt loved at the musical concert. Highly recommend the lessons. The scavenger hunt is also a very nice touch, although I don't know if there's actually a leprechaun out there.

We loved the remote beauty of our well equipped cabin, the endless hiking trails, and exploration opportunities and also the proximity to Jacksonville when we needed supplies. Our hosts were incredible! Or cabin was comfy and had ensuring we needed. Loved the amazing fire pit and shower! We can’t wait to return!

We loved staying at the off grid cabin. The location was great and Travis is an excellent host. It has an amazing view of the western horizon with jaw dropping sunsets. We found the cabin more than equipped for our needs, there was even a solar battery for charging devices. Fire pit was awesome and we enjoyed hanging around in the hammock. I don’t agree with some of the complaints in other reviews, I have a feeling they thought they were getting an AirBnB. This is a picturesque off-grid cabin in the hill country with amazing views. If you are looking for solitude, stars and nature this is a sure bet.

We stayed in Cabin 13 and absolutely loved it! It had more amenities than we expected- a bathroom with towels, a kitchen with dishes, DVDs to choose from, etc. It was quiet and felt very safe and well tended to. We plan on going back again soon! My kids and I had a great time- my dog too!

Weekend Trip to Cabin at the Ranch - Harper, TX

This is a beautiful remote property with dark skies. We booked this cabin last minute to watch the Geminid meteor shower and it did not disappoint. Travis left detailed instructions on both getting to the property and what to expect once there. Be prepared and you will have a great time! We saw longhorns, and whitetail deer. We will definitely be back to this property.

3rd time staying on the campgrounds and it was just as amazing as the first time. Hollis and Beaux are just so amazing and very great hosts! Brought my daughter this time and she also enjoyed life under the stars away from the city. Such a great hidden gem!
