Behr Art
6 sites · Lodging2 acres · NMI am a working artist of many mediums; ceramics, copper, painting, collage, et al and proprietor of Behr Art Gallery & Gifts. Alongside this work, I  design spaces and events,  host workshops, markets, annual festivals, officiate weddings, and make my ever-morphing property available for others to share and enjoy. To that, I've spent nearly every day designing, decorating, reconstructing, reconfiguring and reworking this historic property, farm and gardens. The structures I've built and designed that are available for your retreat include the CABIN, the LOTUS, the  POND HUT and the TREE HOUSE.The Cabin  was  once a bunkhouse. The previous owners moved it (rolled it on logs) to its present location.  In doing so, the floor joists needed to be reattached and a foundation was constructed to stabilize the building. My brother and I cut, fitted, mudded, tied, nailed, plumbed, electrified  and created a marvelous space.  This is otherwise a working art studio,  organic farm and orchard, with ponds, shade trees, peace, quiet and some of the darkest skies for star gazing in the nation. My backstory:A Connecticut native, I moved to Silver City/Pinos Altos New Mexico in 1970 and then  to Glenwood in 1982. For twenty-two of those years, I lived on a ranch with a herd of horses and two donkeys, and my passion was endurance riding. After thousands of training hours, competitive miles, and sponsoring the Scorpion Sting Endurance Ride, I  gave it up for the life I now live on this land.

This was the first structure that my great grandfather built for his family in the mid 1800’s. They had 14 kids. Later it became the cellar which kept their food. It was built in the mountain. The front structure was added in the early 80’s for an extra room.

RLB Historical Stone Cabin
1 site · Lodging6 acres · Tererro, NMThe RLB stands for the last names of the given Ancestors (Rivera/Lawson/Bennett). This property & structures date back to President Grover Cleveland’s time. I found documents that he had signed for my grandfather. The main cabin was drilled to see how old it was. It was built somewhere around 1867 or 1868. The smaller cabins were built before the main cabin. The main cabin is one of the five Ladies of the Pecos River. There were only five cabins first built and settled in the territory that the logs were called dove and groove. The Stone cabin was built first and no record of the year other than it was before the main cabin. The cabin by the river was used as the kitchen until the main house was built. Then the River Cabin became the shed to store saddles and bridles, ropes & etc. My father moved the door from the side that is now a window to the front by the river and made it into a one room cabin. The front which is the kitchen now was added in the mid 80’s.

Quail Run Tiny Guesthouse
2 sites · Lodging1 acre · Alamogordo, NMQuail Run was delivered to us June 10th 2020. In decorating the house I wanted it to have the feel of the Old West so is rustic and cozy at the same time . The outside was finished with American cedar and corrugated metal giving it a modern twist on the old west. Inside you'll find neutral tones, curtains made with from burlap bags, kitchen sink which is actually a galvanized pail. There are other surprises in the bathroom which is quite ample. Upstairs in the loft is a memory foam mattress quilts, fluffy pillows and two small Windows which offer a pleasant cross breeze. Also displayed outside on the fence is an old saddle which has seen better days. It was a gift from a mescalero Apache fellow whose parents found that saddle in the woods in mescalero in the 1950s. Also it's not beautiful I consider it a treasure. Make sure you take a look while you're here Once the house was delivered we went to town adding our own touches to the decor, actually reworking the kitchen and finishing all the wood. The fellow who built it also delivered it from Denver for us, set it up, and built a ramp right on site. We rewarded him with a spaghetti dinner and sent brownies later, hahaha! Our tiny house is a little beauty and very popular! We hope you visit soon!

Tres Caballos
3 sites · Lodging7 acres · Las Cruces, NMLocals consider this property one of the best secrets of the valley. The main house is an old adobe built sometime in the '30s, added on to over the years. Joe Augustine raised his family as well as race horses here and it is often referred as the old Augustine place. Things I love about this place; a landscape in every direction, all the mountains that create the Mesilla Valley are visible, the way the light changes, the sound of the train, how quiet and peaceful it is, watching the crops grow and change, the very dark nights. It is an amazingly healing space to be, it kinda sucks the hustle right out of you allowing space for expansion.  Come be still and listen. Access to the river and mountains is easy, day trips abound, and town is close enough but not too close. Ask me about an Artist Retreat beginner or masterclasses availableLearn more about this land:Welcome to dark star filled nights and birdsong days. This is your Gateway to all that southern new Mexico has to offer and it's a lot! Your Casita is a very well appointed two bedroom two bathroom, full kitchen, dining area and living room. All with a retro/boho feel, mid century modern meets vintage finds. The vistas are always enchanting and can be enjoyed from either of the covered porches, or out by the stock tank pond, you will have a front row seat to the Dona Ana and Organ Mountains, and probably a couple of exotic horses grazing in the pasture, just because! We have Parks, Monuments, public lands all for the hikers, foodies will delight in the many restaurants, food trucks, brew pubs and distilleries. Arts and culture abound also with a variety of museums, art galleries, theater and fiestas. And yet the farm feels remote, a slice of solitude, it is the perfect gateway to the world and the perfect place to come home to.

Whether sledding down the dunes in the White Sands National Park, whitewater rafting or horseback riding along the Rio Grande, or discovering Native American history at the Petroglyph National Monument near Albuquerque, camping getaways in the Land of Enchantment are great fun. You don’t need a tent or RV to take part—cabin rentals mean you can discover New Mexico’s state parks and national forests year-round and keep some of the comforts of home (whether that’s high-speed wifi or a hot tub). Book a mountain cabin in Cloudcroft at the heart of the Lincoln National Forest, a luxury cabin close to the hiking trails of Santa Fe National Forest, or a vacation home by Carlsbad Caverns National Park. When winter rolls around, check into a cozy cabin or log cabin in the Rocky Mountains—the Angel Fire Ski Resort and the Red River Ski Area both have vacation rentals available.
