Sapillo Creek Escape is a truly unique gem in the Gila Wilderness. It sits at 6,000 feet above sea level, was custom designed and built by the creator of the Bear Creek Motel and Lodge in Piños Altos, and took 7 years to construct. Everything from the saltillo tiles to the wood latilla ceilings are custom built and exquisitely hand-laid.  With over 3,000 square feet in the home at your disposal, this place is made for just you, or you and your family and friends, to enjoy the Gila Wilderness, Silver City, and Grant County. Fishing, birding, biking, hiking, horseback riding and more await you in the Gila, with dining, arts, culture and more in Silver City.  The Casita at Sapillo Creek Escape sits on 20 acres, so camping is welcome.  Pets are permitted with prior review and approval. All pets must be friendly and get along with other pets, and must be fully vaccinated (proof of vaccinations is required, especially rabies, parvo virus and kennel cough).  We purchased Sapillo Creek Escape in early 2019. We are thrilled and honored to own it, and be the caretakers of this gem, which was so dear to the owner’s heart. Welcome to our home!  Tommy & JenniferSurrounded by the Mogollon Mountains, this glamping casita provides you modern amenities such as a queen bed, stove top, mini fridge, crock pot, dresser, wardrobe and a table and four chairs. There is covered parking for your car right next to the casita and we have a pop up tent that can be used. The tent can be used for outdoor showers as we have a 5 gallon solar heated shower.  We have an outhouse about 40 feet from the casita and you can find the lit-path at night to direct you to it. After going #2 in the outhouse, please pour one scoop of lime or sawdust down the hole to help decomposition and prevent odors and bugs. The bed sleeps two comfortably.  If you bring cots, you can host two more people or kids at the casita.  It will be tight but it can work! There is potable water from our well that is accessible right outside the casita. There is a space heater inside the casita to keep you warm during the colder season. Once you step out, you will smell Pinon Pine and be footsteps away from Sapillo Creek, a hike or short drive (4 min) to Lake Roberts, and the Gila National Forest. Some of the mesas of the Mogollon Mountains still boast pottery and artifacts that date back to the Mogollon Indian civilizations hundreds of years ago. This is a leave no trace casita, so please take out all of the trash that you make on the property. The Mimbres dump is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays but if you do go out to Deming or Silver City, their dumps are open daily. Pets are welcome - 1 or 2 dogs, vaccinated and socialized. No smoking. Please bring your own toilet paper.

1 to 2 dogs maximum. They must be vaccinated and socialized and owners must pick up after and take away pet poop from the property.
No campfires
This is a very dry area and campfires are not allowed.
Potable water available
Pump or well. The pump is right outside of the casita. If you want to be extra sure, please feel free to boil it on the stove top inside the casita.
Showers available
Hot water . Hot water is available if campers fill the portable shower and allow the solar heated bag to heat while they are out. The shower is also in a tent in the back of the casita and there is a tent that provides privacy.
Cooking equipment present
Private, stovetop or hot plate, fridge, cookware, dishware. We have some camping cookware, a mini fridge, a stovetop and a crock pot. You can use the water from the well pump out front to wash the dishes. There is a dining room table and four chairs inside the casita.
Pack it out
Please pack out your waste. The dump in Mimbres is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays. The biodegradable bags for your bio-waste generated can be buried 75 feet beyond and behind the casita property and if you bring biodegradable poop bags for your dogs, you can bury it out there too. Otherwise, please pack it out upon your departure.

Cozy, quaint and unique. The only issue I had was the use of cooking appliances (microwave, etc.) which I did not use, as it would require placing them on the floor in order to plug them in. The power was off for most of a full day, not the fault of the owners, but the village. We left to find some relief from the heat. The cooler/fan in the cabin works pretty well.

Really cute little casita. Bigger than I expected. Jennifer warned me that it was rustic and indeed it was. Comfortable bed, camping like cooking and washing capabilities. That is what I was looking for. The night sky was amazing as were all the hikes around. The hot springs are 30 mins away on a beautiful drive and well worth it. Daily.

A little slice of quiet rustic heaven in a very noisy world. Jennifer & Tommy were great hosts, very helpful & hospitable. The location was perfect for exploring The Gila Natl Forrest with my pup. We visited the Gila Cliff Dwellings Visitor Center & received his Bark Ranger badge, hiked on numerous dog friendly trails & soaked in the hot springs. The Casita had everything we needed to stay comfortably & even though our trip was in mid December, we stayed toasty warm & cozy. I felt safe & very at peace here. The casita was very clean, as is the property & very dog friendly. We both slept better than we have in a while, coming from the city. Lake Roberts is beautiful, with the casita so close. I look forward to another trip so I can bring my kayak & enjoy the mountain lake.

Loved that it was simple, rustic, and off the grid. Beautiful scenery and hiking options. The instructions left by the host were super clear and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway nestled in nature :) the Gila is breathtaking!

Nice casita, but some problems
Glamping Casita in the Gila
Cozy casita with plenty of space and comfy bed. Some folks may find the tiny pit toilet privy to be challenging. And be sure to double-check that you’ve received the correct code to unlock the key box. I was given the wrong code, and since there is no wireless service of any kind at the site, I had to drive back 25 minutes towards Silver City just so I could reach the host and get the correct code.

Glamping Casita in the Gila
The Glamping Casita is exactly as described and pictured. The directions to the property were perfect and very much needed as Google maps truly could not have gotten me there. Jennifer was incredibly helpful and the hiking recs (provided on a very helpful printed document when I got there) were awesome. The cooking equipment was also perfect and necessary as this is a remote spot. I had a wonderful time and got tons of writing, reading, thinking, and resting done...exactly as I'd hoped!

Ms. Jennifer was up the drive and was gracious enough to guide us in :) She is super nice and accomadating. She made us feel welcomed and not isolated - even though we were the only ones. The host also named Ms. Jennifer was super nice and very attentive! The site was enjoyable as well as the sound of the running creek:)

The Casita was a great place to stay for a few nights! Jennifer is extremely helpful, and is on thr property if you need anything. The Casita is thoughtfully decorated and stocked with everything you need. She had the heater going for me when I got there so it was comfortable. The bed was very comfortable as well. Beautiful property with plenty to see. Drove around and did some hikes and site seeing near by. I did have some service out there. Portapotty was clean, a little out of my comfort zone, but what was advertiser. Pet friendly, my pup loved the property and Jennifer was a great host for him too! She warned me to watch for javelinas, as they have been known to attack dogs.

This could be a great experience with some changes. Very charming area but the Casita needs to be cleaned. The throw carpets were crunchy with bugs and stained. The outhouse needs a complete overall...not comfortable or large enough to close the door if you want privacy. I will stay elsewhere next time.

The casita in the Gila was beautiful. I would visit again, but only on the condition that the weather was warmer. The space itself does not hold heat well as it is and requires a stronger electric heater or wood stove.

Friendly host, clean and peaceful site. Fall is a great time - no bugs and reasonable nighttime temperatures as long as you have a sleeping bag rated 10 F. or better. I would time your visit to coincide with a new moon for best star-gazing. I was there during a full moon which made getting around at night easy, but next time I would time it differently.

We spent two wonderful nights in the Gila and the casita was a cozy home base for exploring the area. Our host was warm and welcoming. The space is decorated with a creative eye and provided for our basic needs. The location is a bit of a drive from food or gas but the casita had plenty of cooking options. It was great to unplug and unwind in a beautiful natural setting.

We loved glamping at the Casita! Jennifer was very nice and informative. Everything is on the instructions and very detailed. I texted Jennifer a couple times and she messaged me back immediately even though it was my fault I didn’t read the instructions. The Casita is very roomy and has everything you need including stuff for cooking. It was perfect and the stars were amazing at night. Would definitely recommend!

Overall, it was okay. The campsite was pretty and isolated. The warning ahead of time to print out the driving directions and avoid the twistier-road route was appreciated. The day trip to the Gila Indian Ruins was interesting. The main problem was bugs. Even with insect repellent, I got about 20 mosquito bites.

The campsite was in a nice location near a creek and not too far from the parking area. However, the trail to the site was almost nonexistent as it had become completely overgrown. It wasn’t a huge problem and outside of monsoon season it’s probably no issue at all. Still for a paid campsite, it feels like someone could have spent the afternoon with a lawn mower to cut a reasonable trail and make the water pump accessible.

The casita was lovely. It is ideally located to do hiking in Gila, and so nice to be able to go somewhere without cell coverage or wifi. There is space on the property to take in the sunset and stargaze. I had a wonderful time here. Thank you Jennifer!

We were a bit discouraged about the campsite. It was overgrown and not well taking care of. The signs were busted and difficult to find. The owner also didn't mention the danger of the boars/pigs in the area since we had a dog with us. They only mentioned it after we showed up to the campsite. Also, the campsite was still a bit of a walk from the creek. It wasn't physically on the creek as advertised. I do hope the owners will take better care of the land for those who would like to camp comfortably even if it's tent camping, etc.

Very cute spot with lots of room! Stayed here two nights in February ended up being a very cozy stay and had lots of basic items someone might need and ended up working out great for our trip! The only thing I want to give a heads up about is the bathroom. I'm only 5'8" and could not fit comfortably in the bathroom and it's also kinda low to the ground. Was a rather awkward experience using.

Can’t find campsite!
Campsites at Sapillo Creek Escape
The area was lovely and remote, however we were unable to locate the campsite due to the area being completely overgrown. We could barely see the sign for parking, and ended up having to drive into the brush that was taller than the car. We ended up flattening the grass on the side of the road with the car and pitching the tent there because there was no visible trail to the campsite anywhere. It was a fine experience but not quite what we had in mind!

Very comfortable, clean, great bed and amenities. But no phone service in the whole area or wi-fi or radio. I did a lot of reading. In spite of all the rain and mud I would stay there again but maybe at a different time. Thanks HipCamp for another great place to visit

Nice getaway
Glamping Casita in the Gila
The casita is cute and as advertised. My husband and I and two kids (age 1 and 4) stayed for two nights. The bed was comfortable. We brought a sleeping bag and pack n play for the kids. It was nice and cozy, but not too cramped. We went to the gila cliff dwellings (about 20 miles away) one day and silver city the next (about an hour). The check in directions were easy. The area is pretty and quiet. Overall we had a nice stay.
