Lush high desert river oasis on three acres, nestled in a fertile valley in Carson National Forest, right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful, private and serene land right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives. At the moment we have three options 1) Cosy & nestled Vintage Camper that can be heated, with kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. 2) As well as a Gazebo Tree shaded campsite for tents only, with fire pit, outdoor seating and the tranquil sounds of the gently flowing river in the background. 3) If you would like to bring your own camper/or tent we have a willow brush enclosed meadow with stunning views. Some campsites have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house, others have private outhouses. *** Right by the river, held by a BLM ridge (makes for amazing sunset hikes), we have a tent campsite for several people that will be available once our bridge is finished- est. end of April '26. As well as a Gypsy Wagon with electric, water and kitchen. My partner (senior therapist at Ojo Hot Springs) offers private massages that you'll find in the Extras. As of April '26 we have been adopted by two sweet dogs- mom and her pup. For now, until we find homes for them, we cannot accept your pets. So sorry. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild with lots of bird sounds. It is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away. *No cell service in the greater area. Wifi available around the house for calling and texting.

The Riverside Campsite is a large campground for tents only- a flat grassy space with trees on the banks of the Rio Vallecitos. It is held by a ridge that makes for amazing sunset hikes. With big fire place, picnic table, chairs and loungers. This site can only be reached by foot across the river bridge- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft away. Entirely private, lots of shade and magically serene. Guests will have access to the bathroom in the main house until we finish the outhouse, 1 min walk. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and repellent work great. Or a campfire. Only 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. Very yummy! Our land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away. *No cell service in the greater area so u can unplug and enjoy nature fully immersed. WiFi for texting and calling around the house available.

Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful private 3acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente. This site is located amongst the trees for shade, and adjacent to a serene pasture. The closest campsite to the river... only 50ft, you can hear the stream from here. It has a 12ft mosquito netted gazebo for shade and shelter with two comfortable sofas to lounge, several additional seating options, a small table and a fire pit. Only accessible by a green walking path, hence a tent site only. It can accommodate up to two tents comfortably, more if you like. Guests may use the bathroom in the main house, and enjoy the trampoline. My partner (senior massage therapist at Ojo Hot Springs) offers private massages right by the river. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Or a campfire. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. Very yummy! Nestled amongst Willow bushes and horse fields this spot feels very private yet has expansive views of mountains- with a cosy tent spot, and lots of space to park your trailers and cars. A picnic table with sun umbrella, large comfy couch, hammock, antique bench and lots of cushioned chairs. This site is a short 200ft walk away from the river. Guests have their own spacious light filled outhouse, and can enjoy the huge trampoline, or a massage by my partner who is the senior massage therapist at Ojo Hot Springs. As of April '26 we have been fostering two stray dogs, a mom and her pup- until we've found good homes for them we cannot unfortunately accept your fur friends for the moment. With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Or a campfire. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. Very yummy! An our very own La Madera local Canteen Wed-Sat- 0.3 miles walk where you will find breakfast, fresh pastries and lunch specials. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest. Conveniently located between the fiery expanse of Taos (45mins) and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu (25 mins). Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente. 33ft very spacious and cosy remodeled 5th Wheel Camper with kitchen, water and electricity. Separate bedroom, large living space with many reading nooks and a well equipped kitchen and an private outhouse. Comfortably sleeps 4 people. Outside picnic table, bench, shade sails and fire pit. Lovely quaint mountain views! Very cosy nook, entirely private. 1 mins walk to the river. Guests can drive right up and park behind the camper. Private outhouse with sawdust just outside the camper. At Ojo Caliente Hot Springs you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. As well as the newly opened NOSA just south of Ojo. And our own local Cantine here in La Madera (Wed-Sat). My partner Daniel (senior massage therapist at Ojo Hot Springs) offers private massages by the river- check out the Extras. The land is naturally and beautifully wild. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars. Great communication, lovely peaceful property. Susanne has several "living rooms" set up all outside; around the campsite, in a small meadow, but the river. All are comfortable and in a beautiful place. It was so quiet with nothing but the birds and insect and visits from the neighbors dogs. A terrific place to relax.

Vintage Camper Meadow Campsite
We loved the peacefulness. Stayed in the 5th wheeler RV, which was down the lane about a block from the main house & river deck yard ( deck was a lovely respite). The camper was comfy for sleeping- campyard scrappy, but comfortable enough to sit out in for a bit (daytime breezes & night sky reveal). Problem came from mismatch btw listing description & the reality: the fact of no functioning RV plumbing, or alternate water or camp potty set up on site, the sole potable water source being at main house. This was not clearly communicated. (host Suzanne had alerted on: no shower available, and only available flush toilet being in main house). Attn to providing alternate RV site water & potty set ups- basic amenities- are needed here for functionality, and to improve site care. Would make it worth the price.

Yurt Oasis

It’s our second time with staying with Sus. She is a divine host. My brother and I always leave her property feeling enlightened. The yurt is an easy cross over the creek. You feel like you have your own space, in such a lush environment. Highly recommend.

We spent two nights in Susanne’s yurt, which is located in a peaceful spot right near a creek and nestled into a hill. The bed was very comfortable, and the yurt is furnished nicely—quite charming. The outdoor furniture was functional enough; our visit was short so we didn’t spend too much time there during the day. It did rain (with thunder and lightning!) one night for many hours, and I’m happy to report the yurt was watertight. ;-) It was nice to be inside and hear the rain and see the flashes. Susanne is a lovely host and interesting person. We enjoyed visiting with her.

Susanne’s place has lots of charm.; beautiful stream. privacy, near to Ojo Caliente. You can hike up a nice ridge, lay in hammock near the stream, or explore the area. Susanne is very gracious!

Susanne’s Yurt was just perfect. Definitely a relaxing oasis, which was just what I needed on my last night of my 12 day solo road trip. I enjoyed all the amenities including the hammock, trampoline, and fire pit. Ojo Hot Springs Resort was also just amazing. Wish I could have stayed longer.

This was a beautiful and peaceful place to unwind for several days on our way from Texas to Colorado. The yurt was very comfortable and we enjoyed our private oasis by the river. It was magical! Be prepared to bring all necessities as the closest gas station, convenience store is a good 30 minute to drive. Taos and Santa Fe are a 40 to 1 hour drive. Susanne was wonderful and gave us great tips on places to check out. We'll definitely return!

Great! The yurt is great, super homely and secluded and Susanne is a great host. Just have to go closer to the house for the Wifi but hey that’s yurt livin baby. Wish I could live in this town tbh

Vintage Camper Meadow Campsite
We had such a good time at Susanne’s place. Our vintage camper was in need of repair, so she put us up in her guest room. She was a wonderful person to talk to and was available for anything we needed. The driveway is rough dirt, so a high clearance vehicle is definitely recommended, but it was no problem for our Subaru. Nicely close to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs and other amazing outdoor destinations.

Susanne's area is really beautiful. She gave us directions to local watering holes and bike trails but you could easily spend the whole day taking in all the bio diversity on her land and cooling off in the stream. A real gem.

Susanne’s property has a peace and a lightness you’ll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. There are many different options for your stay; tent camping, trailer camping and she even has a yurt! She is so knowledgeable about the area and can point you to many different spots. There is something for everyone. I will definitely be returning!

Cozy Hidden Gem

What a great space. So peaceful and relaxing. Felt very private, loved hearing the creak run all night and the sounds of all the different birds. Bed was very comfortable and we slept great. There is a great little hike just above the space that has amazing views. Susanne, was incredibly sweet and accommodating, we’ll look forward to going back.

We had such a relaxing, fun, restorative time at Susanne's yurt! She's my favorite kind of host: invested in making sure you have what you need and want while also completely respecting the need for space. The yurt felt very secluded and for us, it was exactly what we signed up for: no frills shelter (yurt with comfortable bed) and outside space to setup a camp space (kitchen and eating area). The camp setting was beautiful right next to the creek and has lots of options for a variety of day trips (short drive) or hikes (right from the yurt)
