We are excited to share our little A-frame cabin in the woods! The cabin is quite rustic ( and quite cute). Think of it like glamping -- outhouse, wood burning stove, dirt roads, and beautiful trees and mountains included. ** To keep the cabin affordable, all guests are responsible for cleaning up the cabin at the end of the stay and making it ready for the next guest. There are no cleaners coming in after you. ** The cabin is a 432 square foot A-frame in a small mountain community, which is surrounded by the Jemez National Forest. There are a few places to hike right from the front door, and many, many trailheads within a 20 minute drive. Fenton Lake is a short drive away, and the San Antonio Hot Springs is a 2.5 mile hike, bike, or ski away right out the front door for the confident adventurer. Located 1.5 hours from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, a few miles off of NM-4 between the town of Jemez Springs and the Valles Caldera National Preserve. No outdoor fires in the fire pit are permitted at this time. As of April 10th, 2026 water is on and running, potable water is available.

Set above the historic town of Madrid N.M. is Waldo Mesa, the location of past mining operations and stunning vista's.The campsite is 0.9 miles off highway 14 in the historic town of Madrid and up to the mesa. Site 1 can accommodate RV's and tall setups as well as tents. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navigate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. Both towns are very rich in history, from past ocean existence to Native American civilizations, silver and gold mining to booming wartime coal mining industries, to ghost towns.

Our stars shine brighter than most, and coyote songs will remind you that you're dwelling amongst the high desert wildlife.The 1 3/4 mile road to Little Dancing Horse Ranch is not for everyone. I will reiterate this a couple times in this listing to make sure people understand that we live on a rocky, dirt road. Some folks find it not to be a big deal while others do. Most vehicles most of the time can make it fine if it's taken slowly although high clearance vehicles are ideal. During the rare big rain or snow 4 wheel drive may be needed. It's advisable to check the weather in advance.

Ultimate peace and privacy. Nestled in juniper-wooded hills with sweeping views. Close to Albuquerque (20 minutes) and Santa Fe (40 minutes) but feels like a secluded retreat. Most people have no problem finding my place by entering my address in their GPS. However, I have had 2 HipCampers report their GPS directed them to a road called Camino de las Brisas or Las Brisas Loop. Turning here will lead you to a steep, dangerous road where it will be very difficult to turn around if you're in an RV and impossible with a trailer. Continue on Camino de Las Huertas to Senda Osa Vieja. It's marked with a street sign, a stone monument with brass plate. There's also a blue "private road" sign with a dragon. This land was purchased in 1956 by my archeologist parents because of the ancient pueblo site (dating from 1000 A.D.) and pit house sites (dating from 800 A.D.) Until the mega drought seriously impacted the land, a stream ran through it year round. Now it is only intermittent. Across the valley from this property, and within view of the campsite, is the site of a Spanish Colonial village, San Jose de las Huertas. It dates from the 1700s and is now owned by the Archeological Conservancy. This area is rich in history both Native American and Spanish. Learn more about this land: Located in the high desert 20 minutes from Albuquerque and 40 minutes from Santa Fe. Views of Sandia mountains, and near historic archeological sites. Within a 10 minute drive are popular mountain biking trails. Petroglyphs are a 20 minute, moderately strenuous hike from property. Very peaceful, quiet and safe. Read all the Rules and Safety info before booking so you understand exactly what facilities are and are not available, particularly if you in an RV or trailer.

Nothing much here but a place to get away for the night and still be close to the city. You will need 4x4 to comfortably make it to this site!! Not all of us have a weekend free but we might be able to get away for the night and a breakfast before having to return to soccer games or meetings. This is also a great spot to get out and try out new gear without exposing yourself to a long difficult haul only to find out you forgot the propane or the shovel. Take the 5 minute drive from civilization and find yourself far enough away to breathe easier. Cross the dry, sandy, river bed and you’re almost there. We had an incredible time at Ciana and Brad's. They are lovely people with a great mission. We booked the tree climb with Brad for our daughter and her friend and he was so great with them! Keeping them safe while encouraging them to figure out their own paths through the branches and making us all laugh the whole time. Not to be missed. Also with the burn ban in New Mexico I wasn't feeling the campground cooking we would need to set up at the state park I orginally booked, the communal kitchen was an awesome asset as a place to make most of our meals and to hang out in the rain. We will be back!

Appreciated the dog bed, our dog loved it. The outdoor picnic table was not sturdy enough to use - next time we come we hope to bring one :)

Very secluded and quiet. Be sure to read the host's messages as you really need the instructions about how to get into the site. One nice bathroom and one nice shower that are a short walk away at the bathhouse. The host was very helpful .

What a beautiful spot to rest for the night. Quiet and clean. Hosts gave us the place all to ourselves. Just a note, it is tight getting into and out of this spot. We were 31ft TT and King Cab truck. It was a nail biter to back in and easier to pull out. If you are this size or smaller it is doable. There were two of us - TT travelling together. If it was just one of us, we would have had a much easier time. I definitely think this is a great place to stay.

Brenda's place was wonderful. I had the place to myself and privacy, but yet support if I needed it. Loved the pets. Get me company out in my tent. Enjoye pooches hanging out with me and the pond was awesome ! The convenience and experience of showering in 'the bathhouse' was way cool. The light and the privacy was wonderful. Very easy to get to and a very secure area. I'd go there again in a heartbeat! Thanks Brenda

The road is rough so be prepared for that but it is very easy to get to and once you’re there the views are more than worth it. Sunset and sunrise are just spectacular. The host is a wonderful person and gave our pups lots of love.

Hipcampers interested in Native American history should definitely schedule a trip through this expansive park. Ancient caves and cliff dwellings abound in this one-time home of the Ancestral Pueblo people. The Ancestral Pueblo ruins date back to 1150, but they weren't the first people here. There's evidence humans lived here as many as 11,000 years ago!

As such, there are multiple trails that take you directly past or through archeological sites. The fairly flat, short Tyuonyi Overlook Trail is a good choice for beginning hikers. Looking for more of a physical challenge? Try the Frijolito Loop Trail. This demanding hike takes you close to the unexcavated Frijolito Pueblo site.

If you're looking to bag a peak, set your sights on the Cerro Grande Route. This one isn't for the faint of foot, though. Cerro Grande Peak's the park's highest point at 10,200 feet, and the terrain can be unforgiving. Bring water and good gear if you want to conquer this one!

Juniper Campground

Camped 10/25-28 in spot #40 in the 3rd loop (farthest from the entrance). Roads were freshly paved so kids had a blast riding bicycles with other kiddos there. Bathrooms were clean, warm (it was chilly at night and snowed the last day), with running water/soap/ heat dryers. Both trash and recycle were on site. Friendly Rangers! The hike was fairly easy 1.5 miles to the Bandelier ruins.

Juniper Campground

Great campground, high pressure potable water nearby, flush toilets. Some campsite have shade trees, you have to get there early to get one of those sites! Lots of wildlife viewing, trail access to the beautiful Bandelier Nat. Monument and in the busy season free shuttle access from the parking lot to the Visitor's Center if you are tired from hiking! Supplies available nearby in the lovely town of White Rock!

Ponderosa Campground

The campgrounds are the only place you could access with a vehicle when I visited Bandelier , there is a trail you can hike down to the actual park or ride a shuttle. There were three loops of approximately 25 campsites each with an amphitheater in between them. First come first serve, pay the $7 or so at a automated machine. There was an RV sanitation site there. Fires were allowed within the supplied rings but firewood gathering was prohibited. Beautiful place to explore!
