Gondola Village at Holy Cross has direct access that many only dream of to Colorado's water wilderness, and some of the best backcountry skiing, hiking, scrambling, backpacking, and fly fishing in the Vail / Eagle County / Leadville / Aspen area. Our modern alpine cabins are some of the cutest cabins you've seen, complete with a mix of amenities to make your wilderness stay a bit more comfortable. Don’t forget your camera, and a good book (or read one from our large library while you’re up here). Gondola Village at Holy Cross is at almost 12,000 feet above sea level (believed to be one of the highest altitude Hipcamps in the world). Gondola Village at Holy Cross has been featured on Discovery Channel’s Reclaimed, Airbnb's OMG! Fund, Arch Digest, numerous other publications and brand product shoots. The managers of this property have worked in modular construction (cabins, yurts, and homes) and hospitality for many years and have brought together some of the best Scandinavian and modern mountain design with a mining town aesthetic. With such challenging access (larger items can only come in via helicopter), each piece of furniture and amenity is carefully chosen. The trip up can be challenging (only off-road, winch / locker equipped vehicles dare try the 759 Holy Cross City jeep road, others will need to hike in at least 2.5 miles), but the views and cabins are well worth the trek. For successful navigation without reliable cell service, a map app like onX is recommended. Snow free season tends to be June 15 an October 30 annually, and outside of this guests should be prepared for up to 11 miles of over-snow travel with no cars allowed (a bit less depending on snow coverage in the shoulder seasons from May 21 - early June and late October - November 21).

With this site being around 3000 feet from the reservoir you will be able to enjoy all the amazing views and amenities the reservoir has to offer without the crowded camp grounds. You will need a park pass to access the reservoir but not to camp on the land. A 1/4 mile down the road is access to nation forest for going off road or get a parks pass and fish at one of the many amazing fisheries in the area like Eleven mile, Spinney and Eleven mile canyon. The south shore boat ramp is less than 4 miles away. This area does get windy so be careful setting up awnings and pop up tents or anything the wind likes to blow away. The site has a slight pitch but leveling out your camper should be relatively easy. No trees on the land to block your 360 degree mountain views.

We live in a house on the property with our 3 year old son, and Buddy the dog, who will be very excited to meet you and might come check on you through out your stay. He loves leftover campfire hot dogs. Please be aware that this is old mining land and there is mining debris and also glass on the property. We work hard to pick it up and repurpose into art projects but it seems to be a never ending battle. If that is of concern this might not be the property for you. However feel free to bring a metal detector and your geology books and you can find a lot of fun treasures on the land if that is your thing!

Great hiking opportunities may be found right on the property, and numerous nearby seldom used dirt roads provide exceptional mountain biking opportunities. A level site with great access, and can accommodate large RV's and campers. And keep your eyes out - you might just see some Pronghorn passing through the property! Directions from the town of Hartsel: Proceed 2 miles South on State Hwy 9. Turn right (South) on CR 53. Stay right at the fork at 1.3 miles. At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Campgrounds, people, noises, regulations, things you won't find here. You will find happiness, peace, the sound of the winds in 3000 year old trees, alpine streams tricking through ancient untouched forests, great horned owls and moose calling into the night, coyote echoing at sunset signaling night approaching, the warm smell of pine and summer grasses, touching the warm rocks next to the stream while you listen to the birds and crickets. I could go on and on, these are the things I see when I close my eyes and think of this place. This site sits at the base of (2) 14ers. in thee middle of a sunken meadow. This is the most beautiful and secluded camping experience you will experience in Colorado. There are miles of 4x4 and atv trails. There are countless hiking trails for day and short nature hikes. Above the site sits bristlecone pines that have appeared in ansel adams prints and are absolutely amazing. The sites sit on 160 private acres which borders national forest. There is a small a-frame tent that's insulated with big windows, locking door, skylight, solar for charging electronics, and a full size bed. The cabin is roughly the size of the full size mattress but seems bigger because of the a-frame roof. Its warm and cozy and keeps the critters and animals out, so you feel safe and comfortable. There are lots of amenities on site.  There is a picnic table, 10'x12' waterproof awning and wood deck.  There is a bbq, bear box, huge stone fire pit and bucket toilet. The road into the site was graded last year but still has small potholes typical of a Colorado county road, most low-profile cars will do fine.  If you have a rv or camper, the turn around is limited, no tow behind campers or vehicles over 20'

Super clean and comfortable cabins on a beautiful peaceful property, grassy lawns, tons of aspens, a small creek running through it. Easy access to multiple Colorado Trail trailheads (<5 min drive). Fully stocked kitchen. Wi-fi wasn't blazing fast but totally sufficient for a couple days of remote work including video calls.

It was such a beautiful spot next to the river. I love sleeping next to the sound of the babbling waters. There was also a fantastic log pile divider between our campsite and the next. This offered a fantastic amount of privacy. I would recommend this spot to anyone!

I had an outstanding stay at Stoll Mountain and can’t recommend it enough. Jeff was an exceptional host—his detailed instructions made everything seamless from arrival to departure, and his welcoming approach immediately put me at ease. The property itself is something special. The land offers a true sense of peace and serenity that’s hard to find. I spent time simply taking in the scenery, watching the wildlife, and enjoying the quiet—exactly the kind of reset I was hoping for. Great views great spot. There are houses up the hill but id still consider the site isolated. Although the for sale sign is in the way of the view a little, it provides nice shade :) Lovely time spent

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Megan & Dan’s RV site. It’s located in an awesome forest — my dog loved being off leash & playing with their dog, Cody. I chose to have an electrical hookup for my Winnebago Ekko and Dan actually hooked it up for me on my arrival. The site was level and easily accessible (even in the snow) to the road that had nearby tracks for Leadville Railroad. Loved the train passing by… also, the downtown has awesome little shops, restaurants with very friendly merchants & locals. Leadville is a cool town with the majestic mountains & trails nearby. So much to do… so little time. Highly recommend a stay here in any season!

Very clean well maintained campground. It's very near hiway but the creek is strong and loud enough to drown out any traffic. There is only a porta potty available if you are tent or RV camping. But it's clean and maintained. Very nice propane fire pit that is very warm and no need to wood are worth the fee.

Weekend Trip to Cloud 11: Secluded & Close to Town

Myself and a few friends tent camped here and really enjoyed it! Camp site has ample trees for tying up a hammok and spots for tents. Location is really close to town while also being secluded which was nice. Met Dan (Megan's husband) and he showed us our spot and was overall a chill dude. Great spot if you are going to be spending a day or two exploring Leadville.

Weekend Trip to Gondola Village at Holy Cross

We had a lovely (but challenging, carrying a toddler) hike up and stay at Cabin #2. The cabin was quaint, clean and more well-appointed than expected (I guess we didn't need to pack a hatchet?). It was hovering around freezing when we arrived, but we got the stove lit and got the space up into the 50s for a comfortable night. Sunrise was lovely from bed and we finished our trip with a hike up to the lake in the morning before descending to the car.

Tons of wildlife! Saw plenty of pronghorn, deer, eagles, and a massive heard of bighorn sheep. It’s a very open area which means the view is great, but it can get extremely windy in the afternoon.

Absolutely gorgeous place if you need/want to disconnect and truly enjoy some peace and quiet. The huge fire pit with log seats, hanging grill and picnic table was great and we appreciated the thoughtful wood pieces left behind to use for the campfire. Arthur is super responsive and the views both in the morning and at night were stunning.

The campsite was private and well maintained. Plenty of firewood in the tree line and the fire pit was designed perfectly for the winds. Be prepared for high winds! Great site! And great host!
