What you’ll find instead is privacy silence dark skies and the feeling of having an untouched piece of Colorado completely to yourself. Hidden high in the Colorado Rockies at approximately 11000 feet Bristlecone Camp sits on 160 private acres bordering National Forest at the base of two 14000 foot peaks near Breckenridge and Alma. The campsite rests on a small bluff overlooking a massive alpine meadow and the Fairplay valley below surrounded by ancient forest alpine streams abandoned cabins old gold mines and some of the oldest living bristlecone pines in the world including trees featured in famous Ansel Adams photography. The setting feels wild peaceful and far removed from normal campground experiences. Moose coyotes elk foxes hummingbirds and great horned owls regularly move through the property while cold mountain air carries the smell of pine summer grass and nearby creeks. Sit beside the stream with your feet on warm granite while the wind moves through 3000 year old trees overhead. At night the stars are incredible and the silence becomes unforgettable. The site was designed for guests who want a rugged Colorado mountain experience without sacrificing comfort. Amenities include a large raised tent platform pergola with waterproof awning picnic tables BBQ grill BBQ smoker bear box propane and wood fire pit and a peaceful elevated camping setup overlooking the valley below. Miles of nearby 4x4 roads ATV trails hiking routes and alpine terrain make this an incredible basecamp for exploring the surrounding mountains. Crystals wildlife abandoned mining structures and hidden mountain scenery can be found throughout the property creating a true Colorado backcountry experience. Two additional private Hipcamp sites are also located elsewhere on the property allowing guests to explore different areas of the mountain. Altitude note this property sits around 11000 feet.
