This is a very well appointed, clean, and secluded tent camping site. It’s clear that William takes pride in the amenities, including the picnic table with the retractable awning and the propane grill and fire pit. Everything was immaculate and I appreciated being able to lock the entrance gate behind me. The bear bin was a nice addition, too. I was somewhat worried about carrying out human waste from the bucket toilet, but my Double Doodie bags made that aspect of the stay a stress- and mess-free experience. (Highly recommend these!) I also appreciated the tent platform, but because the tent was elevated, I wasn’t able to stake down the rain fly properly, so I recommend bringing plenty of extra cord for anything that needs to be pitched out and attached to the ground and not relying on rocks to hold the lines down. I would not recommend trying to haul a trailer up to the site as the road was full of massive potholes. My Crosstrek Wilderness did just fine, though, and I expect any standard SUV with decent clearance could make it. Also, the site is at about 11,500 feet elevation and on the side of a windy ridge, so take this into consideration when booking and planning. When we visited at the end of June, it stormed overnight with pouring rain and lots of wind, and temperatures dropped down to the 40s. This is of course to be expected at high elevation where the weather can deteriorate quickly, so make sure to take precautions and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Overall, we had a great stay and really enjoyed the location. One suggestion for improvement would be providing an onsite dumpster or waste disposal option, especially considering the fee charged for the campsite. Having to transport waste home after checkout was not an ideal experience.
Also, prospective campers should be aware that the site can be quite windy and, due to the high elevation, temperatures can be significantly colder than expected. As long as you're prepared for the conditions, it's a great place to stay.

What a great spot with terrific views of Mt Bross and the Milky Way. The site is above 11K so we really appreciated the covered picnic tables to keep the sun off during the day and the fire pit for the chilly evenings. We saw a handful of cars go by but otherwise felt like we had the whole side of the mountain to ourselves even though it’s only a few miles above Alma. We’ll definitely go back—thanks!

Amazing site! So well appointed—felt a little like glamping! We had no issues with mosquitoes and only a little high wind. The outhouse was great to have. The grill was pristine and the propane fire ring was so easy to use! We will absolutely be back. Only saw a few people on Saturday as they parked nearby to go on one of the nearby hikes, which were super easy to get to and fun to do! Otherwise, we were completely secluded from all others!

The site is well maintained and convenient with the propane connections for the grill and fire pit being a great amenity.
The views are spectacular and if you’re up for some walking around, just a bit further up the road are some beautiful meadows and more great views.
If you have 4x4 then I’d definitely recommend taking a driving excursion even higher up the road towards Mount Bross for an awesome walking trail to and ancient and gorgeous stand of gnarled Bristlecone pines just below the timberline. Drive further for some bumpy fun towards the summit and more spectacular views!
As for seclusion, it’s definitely remote BUT the road to the summit passes directly by the camp site so you will be close enough to greet anyone driving or hiking up that way.
The area is called “windy ridge” so don’t be surprised when you learn why.
We saw lots of wildlife in and around the campsite which was delightful. And the mining history in the area is really neat to see and learn about.

Great spot very high up on the mtn so you get really good views from the campsite. Very secluded from other campsites. Very rocky though so be sure to bring sleeping pads if you decide to tent camp. We had a great time up there.

This was amazing. The location felt remote but was easy to access and had so many amenities. It was easy to walk up the road and be right in national forest. The hiking maps in the bear box were just one of many little inclusions that will bring us back!

Would 💯 stay again. Beautiful views. Very secluded. Loved the picnic tables and awning as well as the grill. The road up was all gravel, lots of pot holes for a few miles - kids loved the bumpy ride. High altitude campsite so prepare in advance.

My husband and I totally enjoyed the remote and private feel of camping here with our dog. If you’re wanting to be the only campers in sight for miles, have breathtaking views, and the ability to hike from camp, this is a great choice. Our host, Kevin, was nearby and able to pop in to help us with the only issue we had (propane fire table) as well as show us around other parts of the land he owns. If we are in this area again, we would definitely choose this spot.

Great campsite! We enjoyed tent camping with our pups. The site is fairly remote and peaceful. Nice trails that are walkable from the location. All of the amenities are as described. The site is close to a road, but there was only traffic for a short period during the day.

This campsite has gorgeous views. Took a bit for us to adjust to the altitude, but we really enjoyed our stay. The picnic tables, awning system for shade, and fire pits were nice added touches. It is close to the Bristlecone Trail and to Kite Lake. We also saw 2 marmots and 2 moose during our visit. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property!

The views from Bristlecone camp are gorgeous! Felt very private. Close to road but no traffic when we were there. Above 10,000ft so use caution if prone to altitude sickness.

This site is awesome!! You can tell, Kevin is taking care of this site very well. Clean with beautiful views, very remote, I saw 3 cars passing by in 3 days. What an amazing site! At times I thought I could see all the way to the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. This would be a great site to climb Mt Bross from.

This is a beautiful location with lots of solitude. My family is used to dispersed car camping. Along with the challenges of finding a site, that half the time has trash from previous campers, and the sound of gun fire from neighboring campsites. None of that is a challenge here. It’s clean and quiet.
However, this is a windy location. And the ground is very rocky, making it difficult to stake down a tent. Our Gazelle canopy shelter flew away twice, even with heavy rocks attempting to hold it down. I’d recommend bringing a mallet along with heavy duty stakes. I also had trouble getting the propane fire place to stay lit. Overall still a fantastic location.

WOW. This spot is amazing. We came with 5 adults and 5 kids (2,3,5,6,8 years old) and were blown away by the site. The kids loved to play in the creek that runs by the site and spent a lot of time running around playing on the rocks and admiring the old miner homes. As long as you keep an eye on them, they’ll be fine. There was more than enough space for 4 cars and we had 3 standard tents plus a rooftop.
Make sure to bring a hammer so you can stake your tents into the ground as it’s fairly hard, but absolutely doable. The mosquitos are also pretty intense so I’d highly recommend being bug spray and citronella candles to help.
We loved using the massive fire ring. Unfortunately, the propane fire pit was not functioning which was a bummer after a microburst rain storm got all of our wood wet. I’ve let Kevin know! We didn’t use the other amenities (outhouse, grill) as we had brought our own stuff, but it’s a great option.
Kevin’s directions to the site were very clear and we had zero issues.
It is a backcountry road that’s not well-maintained, so be prepared. There is one part of the road that is washing out and I feel as though a sedan would have trouble with how deep the large dip has become. Otherwise, just go slow and you'll be fine.
We will absolutely be staying here again. What an amazing spot.
