What you’ll find instead is privacy silence dark skies and the feeling of having an untouched piece of Colorado completely to yourself. Hidden high in the Colorado Rockies at approximately 11000 feet Bristlecone Camp sits on 160 private acres bordering National Forest at the base of two 14000 foot peaks near Breckenridge and Alma. The campsite rests on a small bluff overlooking a massive alpine meadow and the Fairplay valley below surrounded by ancient forest alpine streams abandoned cabins old gold mines and some of the oldest living bristlecone pines in the world including trees featured in famous Ansel Adams photography. The setting feels wild peaceful and far removed from normal campground experiences. Moose coyotes elk foxes hummingbirds and great horned owls regularly move through the property while cold mountain air carries the smell of pine summer grass and nearby creeks. Sit beside the stream with your feet on warm granite while the wind moves through 3000 year old trees overhead. At night the stars are incredible and the silence becomes unforgettable. The site was designed for guests who want a rugged Colorado mountain experience without sacrificing comfort. Amenities include a large raised tent platform pergola with waterproof awning picnic tables BBQ grill BBQ smoker bear box propane and wood fire pit and a peaceful elevated camping setup overlooking the valley below. Miles of nearby 4x4 roads ATV trails hiking routes and alpine terrain make this an incredible basecamp for exploring the surrounding mountains. Crystals wildlife abandoned mining structures and hidden mountain scenery can be found throughout the property creating a true Colorado backcountry experience. Two additional private Hipcamp sites are also located elsewhere on the property allowing guests to explore different areas of the mountain. Altitude note this property sits around 11000 feet. Expect cool nights strong sun dark skies and rapidly changing mountain weather.

Great spot very high up on the mtn so you get really good views from the campsite. Very secluded from other campsites. Very rocky though so be sure to bring sleeping pads if you decide to tent camp. We had a great time up there.

This was amazing. The location felt remote but was easy to access and had so many amenities. It was easy to walk up the road and be right in national forest. The hiking maps in the bear box were just one of many little inclusions that will bring us back!

Would 💯 stay again. Beautiful views. Very secluded. Loved the picnic tables and awning as well as the grill. The road up was all gravel, lots of pot holes for a few miles - kids loved the bumpy ride. High altitude campsite so prepare in advance.

We had a blast! Such a beautiful location. Everything was perfect. We loved exploring the trails and bristlecones with our dogs. The camp was quiet and secluded. We can't wait to come back!

Beautiful and quiet spot, lots of space. Easy to locate with maps. Amenities that are there- fire pit, tables, grill are all great! We had a great time hiking in the area and walking around Alma a bit too.

My husband and I totally enjoyed the remote and private feel of camping here with our dog. If you’re wanting to be the only campers in sight for miles, have breathtaking views, and the ability to hike from camp, this is a great choice. Our host, Kevin, was nearby and able to pop in to help us with the only issue we had (propane fire table) as well as show us around other parts of the land he owns. If we are in this area again, we would definitely choose this spot.

Great campsite! We enjoyed tent camping with our pups. The site is fairly remote and peaceful. Nice trails that are walkable from the location. All of the amenities are as described. The site is close to a road, but there was only traffic for a short period during the day.

Had a little bit of trouble with the grill on sight. Other than that we all loved the spot and had some of the best Stars I’ve ever seen. Everything was clean and well put together with such a unique atmosphere would totally recommend and come back.

This campsite has gorgeous views. Took a bit for us to adjust to the altitude, but we really enjoyed our stay. The picnic tables, awning system for shade, and fire pits were nice added touches. It is close to the Bristlecone Trail and to Kite Lake. We also saw 2 marmots and 2 moose during our visit. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property!

The views from Bristlecone camp are gorgeous! Felt very private. Close to road but no traffic when we were there. Above 10,000ft so use caution if prone to altitude sickness.

Exactly as advertised and reviewed - absolutely no regrets and will visit again! Views up to Bross and Buckskin towering above you. Convenient to hike or ride up the mountain right from camp. Stunning!

Loved Kevin's site! Lots of pretty views, seclusion and space! Area is provided with some amenities which is very nice. Kevin is very responsive. Would definitely recommend a visit here to enjoy a little slice of mountain heaven.

This site is awesome!! You can tell, Kevin is taking care of this site very well. Clean with beautiful views, very remote, I saw 3 cars passing by in 3 days. It has benches, roof, fire pit, grill and smoker too! Very nice addition to this site. Kevin, thank you for sharing your beautiful spot with us.

This is a beautiful location with lots of solitude. My family is used to dispersed car camping. Along with the challenges of finding a site, that half the time has trash from previous campers, and the sound of gun fire from neighboring campsites. None of that is a challenge here. It’s clean and quiet. However, this is a windy location. And the ground is very rocky, making it difficult to stake down a tent. Our Gazelle canopy shelter flew away twice, even with heavy rocks attempting to hold it down. I’d recommend bringing a mallet along with heavy duty stakes. I also had trouble getting the propane fire place to stay lit. Overall still a fantastic location.

WOW. This spot is amazing. We came with 5 adults and 5 kids (2,3,5,6,8 years old) and were blown away by the site. The kids loved to play in the creek that runs by the site and spent a lot of time running around playing on the rocks and admiring the old miner homes. As long as you keep an eye on them, they’ll be fine. There was more than enough space for 4 cars and we had 3 standard tents plus a rooftop. Make sure to bring a hammer so you can stake your tents into the ground as it’s fairly hard, but absolutely doable. The mosquitos are also pretty intense so I’d highly recommend being bug spray and citronella candles to help. We loved using the massive fire ring. Unfortunately, the propane fire pit was not functioning which was a bummer after a microburst rain storm got all of our wood wet. I’ve let Kevin know! We didn’t use the other amenities (outhouse, grill) as we had brought our own stuff, but it’s a great option. Kevin’s directions to the site were very clear and we had zero issues. It is a backcountry road that’s not well-maintained, so be prepared. There is one part of the road that is washing out and I feel as though a sedan would have trouble with how deep the large dip has become. Otherwise, just go slow and you'll be fine. We will absolutely be staying here again. What an amazing spot.

Bristlecone camp is amazing! There is a stream and waterfall that run through the back of the camp that made for a peaceful evening rest and the picnic tables meant that we didn’t have to unpack our own. We only saw 3 cars pass on the way up to the hiking trail and got to catch a rainbow over Alma after a short thunderstorm. We were happy to have brought our bug spray, as it was needed at dusk! We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone that wants fantastic views and quiet.

Tent camped at the site. Place was awesome. Very secluded - didn’t see one other car even drive by the whole time. Go slow on the road in. Views were incredible. Bring chairs for around the campfire. Definitely will be coming back!!!

We loved the spot! We had no issues finding or accessing the property, thanks to Kevin's highly detailed instructions. The view was spectacular, and we had a perfect spot for the eclipse. The facilities provided were also excellent. Kevin, thank you for having us. We'll definitely be back!

This place is BEAUTIFUL! I would recommend this place to everyone! We drove in a t night w/ our 20’ camper and it is completely doable. (Just go slow) the road is definitely wide enough. Once on site the views are incredible! I wouldn’t recommend a trailer much longer than ours, if you pull in strait it can be pretty tight getting turned around to leave. You are JUST BELOW THE TIMBERLINE! I believe it was at 11,430. We will be back for sure, the leaves in the valley below were beautiful.

This is a nice spot if you want/need to acclimate for any of the nearby 14ers or enjoy OHV activity. We were self contained so we didn’t really use the amenities provided, and it was just too windy to take advantage of the firepit. The road in is pretty bumpy if dragging a trailer, but doable if you go slow. Directions are pretty good. If you don’t know where Buckskin ends and Hwy 8 begins, look for the clearly marked Windy Ridge sign.
