Wideawake Ranch and Waterhouse

The host is friendly and communicative and the area beautiful! We went in February when there was snow on the ground, so if you go in winter, you of course need to make sure you are prepared fully for winter camping. If you are prepared for that, the spot is great! The camp site specific porta-potties aren't there (again, it's winter) but there is still a nice indoor bathroom to use. We had a lovely time having such a great view of the night sky (surprisingly little light pollution for a place so close to towns and cities) and had a fun time soaking in their indoor metal tubs. It really hit the spot to warm up after being outside in the cold. I recommend staying here!

A Restorative Stay at Wideawake

We recently had the pleasure of camping at Wideawake Ranch & Waterhouse and it was easily one of the most thoughtful and rejuvenating camping experiences we’ve ever had. From the start, Simmons went above and beyond. Before we even arrived, she reached out to ask if we wanted to schedule a soak or use paddleboards since we were among the last guests before the season’s close. She even offered a sample of their incredible spring water and made sure we had everything we might need—including towels. When we arrived, she guided us to our campsite, making us feel completely cared for from the moment we got there. Later, Gwen and Matt came to set up our soak, and they were equally amazing. They walked us through how everything worked, shared local tips and recommendations, and their kindness made the experience even better. The whole team clearly loves what they do, and it shows in every interaction.The landscape was stunning, the soak was unforgettable, and every part of the stay felt curated with care and authenticity. WA’s mission of helping guests reconnect with nature, others, and themselves really shines through. We originally booked Pond Meadow #1 but when we got there, we wanted to switch to another site and the host was so gracious and let us take our pick of available sites. He was so nice and even let us buy some firewood from him since we missed the stop on the way to the campground. We ended up staying on site #5, which was perfect for us! It was nice and flat, plenty of room to pitch our 6-person tent. There was a fire pit at each campsite, multiple toilets, and paddle boards available for use. The different campsites are somewhat close together, so if there are large groups around you, it can get kind of noisy. Word of advice, we came from the direction of Netherland and I don't recommend coming this way unless you are in an off roading vehicle. There was about 5 miles leading to the campground that was not maintained and pretty rough. I'm actually surprised our minivan was able to make it. I recommend coming from the Golden direction, the roads were much better that way. Otherwise, the campsite was great! Very secluded and beautiful. Would definitely stay again.

It was really nice to roll up and not have to set up a tent. Loved the charcoal grill, and the seats - great vibes. Was also one of the most private sites while still an easy walk to clean and sanitary porta potties. Highly recommend, we’ll for sure be going back.

My parents were in town and we wanted to do an easy camping trip close to Denver, and this site was awesome!! The tent was extremely spacious and it was great how private our little area was. There was only one other camping site taken, so we essentially had the whole place to ourselves too. Great to just chill out at the site, or walk along the super quiet and peaceful dirt roads in the area. Would highly recommend! Such a beautiful area!

Great campsite close to Denver!

Wonderful campsite with tree cover, space to hang hammocks, great views of the water, and privacy away from other sites. The restrooms onsite were clean and convenient. The site is on a bit of an incline, but there were two fairly level spots to pitch tents. It was easy to get to from Denver and just the perfect oasis for a weekend outside!

My family really enjoyed our time here! This was our first full family camping trip (kids ages are 6, 5 & 3) and it couldn't have been a better experience! We enjoyed exploring all of the trails on site, and particularly enjoyed the paddle boarding. The place was easy to find, and the hosts were welcoming. Our kids were asking the whole way home when we could come back!

Beautiful remote spot. I was traveling with friends and we had spots 9 and 10. They were large enough for our two vehicles and trailers. Unfortunately, it rained during our overnight stay and we weren’t able to explore the property. Gwen was a great host - very welcoming and responsive to all communication.

We had a great time at Wideawake Ranch! We did feel the photos were a little misleading for the spot we chose — it was not level and there was a significant incline which made set up a little challenging. There was also unfortunately some broken glass around the area. But, the view was beautiful and we loved being right next to the pond. We really appreciated the portapotties, they were super clean and they kept toilet paper stocked which is always a blessing while camping! Overall we would recommend the campground and will be back to stay again.

We loved tent camping at Wideawake Ranch! There was an amazing old Mine just up the hill we were able to explore, and there are wild raspberry bushes everywhere! We picked some and added them to our breakfast! The stars were also incredible! A clear night allowed us to see the milky way and we even saw a bunch of shooting stars. The staff were caring, helpful, and genuinely good people. Also, we HIGHLY recommend getting yourself some of the bottled spring water! We will be back, that's for sure!

Overflow #1

We paid a bit over $200 for two nights at Overflow #2. The good stuff * This site is secluded from the other sites. There was no one near us for our whole trip. Couldn't physically see other people. * There are two fire pits, one under some tree cover and one more in the open. * The specific camp site itself is pretty big. We had 8 people and it felt like a good size. Neutral * The bathrooms are two porta potties towards the front of camp. We didn't use them. The bad stuff * There's a parked trailer and a piece of metal near the site which is just a bit unsightly. * Most of the site is at an incline. We were able to find a couple spots that weren't as bad as others but we were sliding down our beds all night. * There was broken glass and garbage around the site. Especially around the fire pits. Not great for kids/pets.

We had a great time camping here! Site #10 was smaller than many of the others, but still had room for two cars, a 12-person tent, lawn chairs around the fire pit, and a separate small canopy for shade. We had one additional car that we parked in the overflow area. The porta-potties were very clean. Sites are visible from each other just due to lack of trees, but I still felt like we had good privacy and separation. There was also a large lit-up cross on the hill by the house. The stars were GORGEOUS and super bright. Would definitely recommend camping here!

This is one of the best camping experiences we’ve ever had. We stayed in the Premium #1 site and the tent and beds were wonderful!! It down poured for a majority of the evening but we were able to stay warm and cozy in the military style tent. The hosts were welcoming and we look forward to going back to try their other amenities like the lake and the hot soaks! Thanks so much Wideawake Ranch!!

Premium Site #1 was so great! I did my first solo camping trip and Wideawake Ranch provided everything I needed, including a camp stove and table and air mattresses. I would definitely come back to camp here.

#3 was good. Shade place for care and such. Do t see how #4-7 would be good. When we arrived there was no table. Thought every site would have a table. My bad. First day no TP in toilet, but other days it was there. Great place overall, especially if you want to be by yourself.

This is a beautiful and family friendly place to camp just an hour away from home! Our site was an ideal space just private enough for quiet but also overlooking the pond and a beautiful view. We got the hot spring water bath delivered to our site for the first night and it really soothed our aches and pains and warmed us up for a great night! The hosts are wonderful and made the whole experience so lovely, helping us with firewood and much more. I highly recommend this place to families and first time campers!
