Nestled in the back of our property, accessible via a horseshoe-shaped driveway, this dedicated camping spot awaits you. Please note that a 4WD/high clearance vehicle is essential for winter access, and rigs over 25' will not fit. We have a nice long pull-in with full hookups on our one-acre property. It is fully fenced and we are happy to accept pets. We are in a rural neighborhood setting and my husband and I do live on the property in the small green house you can see in the photos. There are houses around; it's not a secluded wilderness spot. We've been RVing for seven years (two of them full-time) and hiking and camping for many more. We're happy to provide local recommendations or to help you out with your rig if you're new. Our home is conveniently located approximately 35 minutes from Boulder or Nederland, 45 minutes from Eldora for skiing enthusiasts, 25 minutes from the Longs Peak Trailhead, and 45 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park. We are located one mile south of the Wyoming/Colorado border on the west side of Highway 287, one mile north of the rest area. The elevation is about 7,500 feet. Our property, and the surrounding area, is loaded with stunning granite boulders. This outcropping is part of the Sherman Batholith, (just like Vedauwoo to our north), dated at 1.4 billion years old! There are a variety of trees and abundant wildlife and birds. RVs, pop-up and all styles of towed campers are welcome, except Class A motor homes or low ground clearance vehicles. Our house is uphill and far enough away that you won't see us, but we're available if you need anything. The property line is fenced and/or marked, we ask that you stay on our property and keep close contact with your kids and your dogs leashed, or nearby, for their safety... due to abundant wildlife, as well as neighbors with horses and cattle.

Come visit our sweet little treehouse in the woods. Our property is just steps away from the bustling historic town of Gold Hill, a destination for tourists and road bikers alike. The treehouse is a glamping experience with just enough amenities to keep you comfortable. Food - Bring your cooler with food supplies or take out in Boulder before you head up the mountain. Or grab a coffee, pizza, snack or a glass of wine at the Gold Hill store. If you'd like a full service dining experience, make a reservation for a 5 course meal at the Gold Hill Inn. What To Do: Walk around the historic town of Gold Hill. We promise you will be entertained. Ask a local about the museum, the cemetery, or the historic two room school house, or any other favorite spots they have around the area. Love the woods and nature, but would like a little action? Attend a local live music concert at the Gold Hill Store or the Gold Hill Inn on a beautiful summers night. Drive to Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park to explore for the day. Boulder - 20 minutes Nederland - 35 minutes Estes Park - 45 minutes The Treehouse is furnished with Queen size bed and plenty of blankets to keep you warm, but feel free to bring your sleeping bag if you prefer. A roll out twin size feather bed for the floor is available upon request if you have a few more folks joining. We provide a portable toilet with WagBags. Please always pack out all human solid human waste. Gold Hill Store offers a toilet for a minimal fee and the Gold Hill Inn has a toilet for customers. A camp stove is available for outdoor use. The camp stove and the propane heater both use 1 lb propane canisters, so feel free to bring your own fuel to cook and keep you warm. A can of propane is always available for your use of the stove. * A note to novice campers and regular hotel patrons: Though you are in a shelter, you are still exposed to the elements. The treehouse is not insulated. Wind, bugs, and critters may all be a part of the variable treehouse experience mother nature has planned for you. If you are not comfortable camping, getting dirty, swatting flies, being too hot, being too cold, hearing the noises of animals at night, waking up to the sound of magpies, and who knows what else, this experience may not be for you.

Roosevelt National Forest camping guide

Overview

About

Administered in conjunction with the Arapaho National Forest and the Pawnee National Grassland, the Roosevelt National Forest is a popular getaway from nearby Fort Collins, attracting campers and day trippers alike throughout the year. The Cache la Poudre River, the only designated Wild and Scenic River in Colorado, winds through the forest, and attracts experienced white-water rafters and kayakers in search of thrills as well as its fair share of anglers, particularly in spring and summer. The greater Arapaho-Roosevelt-Pawnee area offers 53 designated campgrounds plus 10 wilderness areas ideal for backcountry adventures.

Notable campgrounds

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. The Roosevelt National Forest offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served (FCFS) campsites. If you’re looking for an FCFS site, it’s usually best to arrive early in the morning to beat crowds or to nab a site from a departing camper.
  2. Arrive mid-week for the best shot of securing a good site, particularly if you want to camp in the busy summer season.
  3. Reservable sites open for bookings at 8am Mountain Time, six months in advance. If you’re trying to book a popular spot or a cabin, try to reserve as soon as it’s released.

When to go

The Roosevelt National Forest is a year-round destination, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure no matter the season. Popular wintertime activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing. Early spring and summer are popular for white-water rafting along the Cache la Poudre River, while July and August see the biggest crowds when it comes to camping and hiking; if you want a bit more forest to yourself, September is a great alternative.

Know before you go

  • Cell service can be spotty at best in the Roosevelt National Forest. Be sure to download offline maps before heading out. Having a paper map as a backup is wise, too.
  • Forest fires are an issue in Colorado, particularly in the summertime. Be prepared for burn bans and potential road and campground closures.
  • Check ahead for the latest information on snow-related road closures if you’re visiting during the wintertime. It’s a good idea to also pack chains or get snow tires if driving in higher altitudes during the cooler months.
  • Bicycles are not allowed in wilderness areas, and dogs must be kept leashed at all times.

Nearby attractions

Experience the beauty of camping in Poudre Canyon, a picturesque mountain getaway. Set up camp amidst towering cliffs, hike scenic trails, and listen to the soothing sounds of the Poudre River. Enjoy fishing, spot wildlife, and create lasting memories in this tranquil natural paradise.
