We are located one mile south of the Wyoming/Colorado border on the west side of Highway 287, one mile north of the rest area. The elevation is about 7,500 feet. Our property, and the surrounding area, is loaded with stunning granite boulders. This outcropping is part of the Sherman Batholith, (just like Vedauwoo to our north), dated at 1.4 billion years old! There are a variety of trees and abundant wildlife and birds. RVs, pop-up and all styles of towed campers are welcome, except Class A motor homes or low ground clearance vehicles. Our house is uphill and far enough away that you won't see us, but we're available if you need anything. The Virginia Dale Stage Station is about three miles away and the overland trail has several branches going through here. We are also a fifth generation cattle ranch. Don’t mess with the bull!Firewood, for $7.00 per bag delivered to your campsite. The bags make a great trash bag when empty! Do not bring your own firewood, as we don’t want more pine beetles and noxious weeds. The Little Cabin offers a mountainside basecamp, getaway, vacation or a more scenic overnight travel stop to allow you and your fur baby to enjoy some Wyoming open space. A microwave, insta pot, mini fridge and propane grill allow for simple meals to be prepared for inside or outside dining or stop for a meal in any of the communities along your way here. Bring water, cabin is dry and snacks. I do keep some basics in the cabin so if you are traveling grab a meal, snacks and some water, the cabin is stocked with the rest of what you'll need for a night's stay without having to unpack the vehicle. If you're traveling I80, the Little Cabin is a great place to enjoy the sunset or just a peaceful night's sleep after enjoying the Snowy Range Scenic byway in the summer and a possible work around if the interstate is closed in the winter. If you're coming in from Denver/Ft Collins, Co area, Poudre Canyon is a beautiful drive and can take you thru Walden, Co or bring you in on Wyo 10. Feel free to reach out if you have questions on the routes, scenic stops, cut overs or short cuts.
There is Hiking, Fishing, Snow Shoeing, Cross Country skiing, Downhill skiing, (Snowy Range Ski Area) Hot Springs, Mountain Lakes, Plains Lakes, the Big Laramie River, all with in a 5-to-90-mile radius. There is public access, dogs allowed, to the Big Laramie River across the highway where you can fish or walk the public access path that runs alongside it.
Watching the wildlife is an experience of its own. From Chipmunks to deer, we see an assortment. If you enjoy birds and their sounds, you can pick a spot and enjoy. If you are a weather watcher, you may see 3-4 seasons in one day depending on the time of year. It's a great place to snuggle in, read a book, write a book, watch a downloaded movie or just sleep, but disconnect from the chaos and the alerts.

(Ask Hiker Dot for guidance.) Several National Forest access points, where you can enjoy peaceful walks away from crowds, are a short drive.

Bliss Canyon is a spur off of breathtaking, picturesque South Saint Vrain Canyon. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon!
Dark Skies:
If you like to watch the stars and meteor showers, Bliss Canyon is blessed with dark skies with little light from the plains. Bring your telescopes and explore the Universe.
Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.)
Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details.
The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Also, Spirit Hound Distillery received the award for the #1, Best Whiskey in the World in 2022, hmmm, it might be worth a tasting!
Due to our popularity reservations often fill up quickly. We suggest you make your reservations in advance especially if you have a group to rent the entire camp. At times there are last minute cancelations which allows for last minute openings.

2) Moth season is May/June and lasts a few weeks. Not harmful, but can hide and surprise us at times. We try to help by providing moth traps and bug zapper lights.

1) We provide a small battery-powered fan; consider bringing an extra for high heat.
2) The daylight is long, the sunrises and sunsets are long and beautiful.

Instructions were clear, water and sink were wonderful, the rocks were incredible, and the dogs loved the privacy and open space. Lovely sunrise across the field, and very memorable location.

What a wonderful place to stay! We were greeted by deer and turkeys on our very first morning, which made the experience even more special. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and everything is kept very clean.
The little store has a bit of everything you might need for camping, swimming, eating, or fishing. The husband and wife who run the property are incredibly kind and welcoming.
The full hookup sites are a little tight, but still very manageable. You can even see Carter Lake right from the property line.
We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Buford Canyon
We loved staying in this cabin! We stayed for two nights, did some hiking in the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest, but otherwise just enjoyed the scenery and fire pit. The views are spectacular and the cabin itself was warm, clean, comfortable. We will be back!

Fantastic location outside Lyons and accessible to area mountains. The water flowing through the property was a key feature, the pooled waterfall areas were ideal for swimming. Our dog was in heaven. Very impressive what Dot and Byron have done with the different types of camping on the property. Hosts were friendly and super helpful.

Weekend Trip to Silent "P" Ranch
Such a peaceful getaway! The sheep wagon was clean and cozy and the location was wonderful - so quiet that all you could hear were the birds or the wind. A lovely cat walked us to the barn bathroom and back and all the horses were friendly - perfect if you’re a farm animal lover!

The property is beautiful and spacious. Quiet and peaceful. Elyse and Robert are excellent hosts. When our camper electricity went out, Elyse brought us ice, and Robert actually fixed the camper in about ten minutes! So gracious and kind. We will definitely be back. Hopefully with visits from the animals next time!

Chas's property is incredible! We've stayed 3 times so far and cant wait to come back. Chas and Gail are extremely hospitable and the cabin is exactly how it's described online. Highly reccomend setting an alarm to wake up early in the morning for great stargazing!

Just moved to Northern Colorado and needed a quick getaway. Castaway was exactly what we were hoping for… just steps from the river you’ll find the perfect place to pitch a tent. Lots of trees… sandy beach. Picnic table and firepit provided. The site is clean and well maintained. Easy access to a clean, well stocked portable restroom and trash can. The site is fairly secluded but sits fairly close to the highway, you will hear some road noise but traffic tapered off after sundown. Bonus: the camp host (Johnny) is delightful.

Simple, lovely experience. Our teardrop trailer tucked into its space next to the two horses and the chicken barn, our 8-year-old fed carrots and chickens to Richard and Fred (he renamed his equine friends), and we were 10 minutes from the parkour gym where he was competing. Our spot was spacious, our host gracious, the nearby traffic noticeable but muffled and screened, and we relaxed and slept well at our Fort Collins base camp.
