No smoking of any kind anywhere on the property. Smoking at the end of the driveway is also unacceptable.
No open flames of any kind in the space or on the property.
Fire danger is great in our dry climate.
This is mountain living so take care when on the property. Lots of uneven ground around the property. The views are spectacular but with that comes the risk of a windy day once in a while too.
COLORADO WINTER TRAVEL:
There is a possibility of snowy roads anytime from September through March. It's such fickle weather. One day can be sunny and 50 degrees and the next day a 6-inch snowfall. Generally, the roads clear up within a day or two of a snowfall so the impact isn't too troublesome.
If you rent our place in this time frame, good all season tires are advisable. Our driveway is fairly flat and the county road to the house is plowed often.
If there is a snowfall during your stay, we will have the driveway plowed out if we get more than 4 inches of snow and after the snow has stopped falling. If a snowfall lasts more than a single day, we may have it plowed out each day of a snowfall if more than 4 inches accumulate.
Use caution during any snowfall as ground can become unexpectedly slippery.

I widened the gate and moved my mailbox for easier access. Butane fire rings allowed on private property during a fire ban .
Camp anywhere on 60 acres. In one direction there are rolling meadow. Another rocky outcropping. Look to the south and you’ll see the BLM land that shares my fence line. If you want access to town you’re there. You choose how you want to feel. In the woods, in the forest, on huge rocks, flat land or turn around and see CR 1 ( 1/4 mile driveway). Forty five minutes west of Colorado Springs, ten miles to Divide for grocers. One half mile to ice, gas, pizza etc. It is first come first serve with the sites. Two that are near trees for large RVs. One up higher works for pull thru trailers. Plenty of room in the pasture. I just got my first negative review referring to it being dry prairie land. Some pictures are from late last summer.. We haven’t had enough rain yet for it to green up. Also it can be windy.

New for 2026: a tent pad for a level night's sleep! Otherwise the property is gently sloped and has wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again.
There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent.
There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. Hipcamp will sometimes turn on my fire ban based on data from the National Weather Service. The only way to know the full situation is for me to call Hartsel FD.
If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!

The property is open meadowland with no trees for shade during the day, so plan accordingly. The driveway is dirt but easy to access, and even small cars make it in just fine. Review the property layout image before you arrive so you know exactly where to go and what to look out for.
If you are car or tent camping, bring warm clothes for the cool evenings, a comfortable spot to sleep, and of course some bug spray. Most importantly, relax and enjoy the quiet beauty of the land and the night sky.

At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left.

SMOKING AND OPEN FLAME POLICY
No smoking of any kind anywhere on the property. Smoking at the end of the driveway is also unacceptable.
No open flames of any kind in the space or on the property.
Fire danger is great in our dry climate.
This is mountain living so take care when on the property. Lots of uneven ground around the property. The views are spectacular but with that comes the risk of a windy day once in a while too.
COLORADO WINTER TRAVEL:
There is a possibility of snowy roads anytime from September through March. It's such fickle weather. One day can be sunny and 50 degrees and the next day a 6-inch snowfall. Generally, the roads clear up within a day or two of a snowfall so the impact isn't too troublesome.
If you rent our place in this time frame, good all season tires are advisable. Our driveway is fairly flat and the county road to the house is plowed often.
If there is a snowfall during your stay, we will have the driveway plowed out if we get more than 4 inches of snow and after the snow has stopped falling. If a snowfall lasts more than a single day, we may have it plowed out each day of a snowfall if more than 4 inches accumulate.
Use caution during any snowfall as ground can become unexpectedly slippery.

Camp anywhere on 60 acres. In one direction there are rolling meadow. Another rocky outcropping. Look to the south and you’ll see the BLM land that shares my fence line. If you want access to town you’re there. You choose how you want to feel. In the woods, in the forest, on huge rocks, flat land or turn around and see CR 1 ( 1/4 mile driveway). Forty five minutes west of Colorado Springs, ten miles to Divide for grocers. One half mile to ice, gas, pizza etc. It is first come first serve with the sites. Two that are near trees for large RVs. One up higher works for pull thru trailers. Plenty of room in the pasture. I just got my first negative review referring to it being dry prairie land. Some pictures are from late last summer.. We haven’t had enough rain yet for it to green up. Also it can be windy.

New for 2026: a tent pad for a level night's sleep! Otherwise the property is gently sloped and has wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again.
There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent.
There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. Hipcamp will sometimes turn on my fire ban based on data from the National Weather Service. The only way to know the full situation is for me to call Hartsel FD.
If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!

What a wonderful visit to the sweetest Cabin imaginable. Hartsell is a darling little town with lots to do within a short drive… Hot Springs, a drive-in, movie theater, great restaurants and outdoor activities. The house was exactly as pictured with wood for the fireplace, a well stocked kitchen, a cozy bed, plenty of extra blankets and pillows, and absolutely stunning views. We had an incredible time and would go back in a heartbeat!

Stayed here in mid-October at the Boondock Tent Site, which is a large area of heavy gravel that is quite level on top of a little bit of hill. Given the exposure, we were subjected to some hellacious winds for the first day and a half, which isn't unusual in the mountains, but the flip side of that is some great views. The ranch has a large corral area nearby with the cutest cohort of goats, mini-donkeys, a horse, and two Great Pyrenese guard dogs, one of which roamed the property and was super sweet and friendly, but well trained enough to leave you alone if you told it too. We appreciated that the animals were kept in their own space, as we've stayed at other ranches where the animals ran amok through our campsite at all hours of the day and night pooping all over the place. This is much better! While we didn't use the common area a ton, there was a propane fire there and some cornhole games. Guffey Gorge was a nice hike. The town is tiny but charming, and Canon City isn't too much of a drive either. Generally speaking, we enjoyed our stay there and would definitely do so again.

Overview
About
With one of the largest reservoirs in the state, Eleven Mile State Park is wildly popular with anglers and boaters alike, particularly in the summer high season, when motorized boats are permitted to use the reservoir. The park is also great for birdwatching, and it's not uncommon to spot raptors, songbirds, peregrine falcons, white pelicans, and even bald eagles. Land activities include hiking, cycling, and camping, and the park offers nine campgrounds with a total of 325 sites, some with full hook-ups, plus an additional 14 designated backcountry campsites.

- Best for quiet camping: Cross Creek Campground is a great place to get away from the crowds, offering only 14 sites.
- Best for RV camping: Rocky Ridge Campground is the only place in the park with electric sites (in loops A, B, and D).

Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve a site at one of the park's nine campgrounds through Colorado Parks and Wildlife online reservation system or over the phone.
- Reservations can be made up to six months in advance. Same-day reservations are also available online or over the phone.
- Only one tent or “camping unit” is allowed per site, so groups with multiple tents need multiple reservations.
- Many campsites and facilities are closed during the off season of November through March.
When to go
High season at Eleven Mile runs from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. Temperatures are at their warmest this time of year, but there's also a greater chance of rain and thunderstorms, particularly in July and August. September is a great alternative, when kids have gone back to school and crowds are fewer. Wintertime is ideal for ice fishing, and there are monthly tournaments from January through March.
Know before you go
- You can pick up supplies and groceries in the town of Lake George, about a 20-minute drive from the northern shores of the reservoir.
- While water-contact sports such as scuba diving and jet skiing aren’t allowed, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards can be used as long as the reservoir isn’t frozen over. Motorboats are permitted until the end of October.
- Boat rentals and marina rentals are available through 11 Mile Marina.
- There are two accessible campsites at the park: one at Rocky Ridge and one at North Shore.
- Separate vehicle passes and campsite reservations are required.

The view of the mountains from my camp site was breathtaking. Depending on the part of the day can be a bit windy. The noise from the trucks pulling boats and what not was noisy. The facilities were amazing. Park is well kept.

Best location on the lake, but the ants were so bad at our campsite. Couldn’t stand still for more than a minute without getting an ant bite. Same problem when launching our kayaks. If we stopped walking all the way to the water we got bit.

There's no showers at this spot but it is amazing. Also plenty of picnic tables. Bring a canopy or pavilion as there is a lot of sun & not a lot of shade. Some of the camping spots are right up on the reservoir so very nice!

Truly a beautiful location but maybe better for a stop at lunch or if you have a boat to get out there to see the whole lake and the rocky outcrops. Fishing is bad off the shore, water is shallow and filled with weeds. No paths. There is one above ground toilet and fellow campers like to prop the door open. Why??? Also no one picks up after dogs OR horses. Strong wind in the late afternoon.
