Remnants of the ancient Tewa culture accompany breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristo range to the east, Jemez range and village of Abiquiu to the south. On the north, vast dramatic views of the Plaza Blanca, stretch out toward the towering Sierra Negra peak. A few acres of short juniper forest top the mesa, leaving the sky wide open for stargazing. An easy 10 minute drive to Bode's general store, dollar store, Cafe Sierra Negra, Abiquiu Inn, 15 to Abiquiu Lake, and 20 to Ghost Ranch, 10 miles off.

Off Grid Unhooked Lodging on 10 Acres: The Bohemian Yurt, with fantasy decor of an exotic nomad, somewhere far far away, is set on a mesa top. Amazing views: Abiquiu Village in the Jemez range, Sangre De Christo peaks to the east, Plaza Blanca and Sierra Negra to the north. Site is among remnants of Tewa people's gardens from the 12th century. Junipers surround the yurt, with wide open sky for amazing stargazing. Access road is gravel, with initial vertical climb, but ok for lower cars. We're off grid, but I get a decent cell signal, gps usually works. Solar panels power lights, and offers usb charge ports. Drinking water from a Burkee, Coleman camp cook stove, propane buddy heater for a bit of warmth, writing desk, cooler, Japanese style tea table and cushions, cozy rugs cover cement floor. Compost toilet in an outer building. Outdoor hot water for shower available upon request. Beds are three single on the floor, and one double on a frame, all outfitted with linens. Guests may use their own sleeping bags. Guests are asked to take away trash and leave no trace.

Enjoy my artsy colorful camper trailer, juiced up from the original 1990 beige. Not a total renovation, but funkified. Kitchen is equipped with stove-top, sink, dishes, and tea towels. Bathroom has a shower, towels, sink, and compost toilet. Rustic outdoor shower is available, if you prefer. Electricity is solar, (USB and plugin) so limited to charging batteries, and camper lights and fans. Water is limited. Harvest table is out front. Hibachi grill available, if the wind is not high. I will tell you if we have a burn ban. I'm just across the yard, but give you privacy. The Plaza Blanca is in my backyard, looking like dripping candlewax, with astounding formations. All the attractions of "Georgia O'Keeffe country" are near, such as her winter home, vistas she painted, and Ghost Ranch. For me, it's the ancient pueblo ancestral home remains, and a kind of magical vibe of the land. On the ground where the camper sits, one will see the rock borders of gardening done by the Tewa peoples, around 800 years ago. For respect, I require the stones be undisturbed. Low juniper trees offer a cozy privacy, but leave the sky wide open for stargazing. Chat with my hens if you like, and Phil, the rooster.
