Cool spot! Close to great hiking in the gorge, lots of space for the dogs to run around, hot springs nearby too! We had too much wind for a fire but that's definitely not Don's fault :). Note that Google Maps really doesn't want to route you across the John Dunn bridge, but that's definitely the easiest way in (I'm guessing it's closed only after a lot of rain?).

Last minute change from Tio Willy’s to Dragonfly site #1 for proximity to Taos downtown. Don was more than easy to work with in making that change. Lovely fire pit, kindling, logs, and water to douse! Lots of rabbits prairie dogs some deer. Birds sounded so happy! Great place!!

Bonsai was a great spot

Bonsai is a great spot. Clean and scenic and in proximity (but not too close) to several attractions. Beautiful sunset over mountains to the west. Beautiful sunrise over the mountains to the east. Don is an excellent host and quickly responds to questions. Would definitely stay here again.

Close but yet so far

Close to TSV and the sweet little village of Arroyo Seco but far enough away from neighbors and roads to feel secluded. Panoramic views par excellence! Don was great with communique and super helpful. Would not hesitate to stay again. Could use one more Hipcamp sign when reaching the field to reassure bleary eyed travelers :)

Great private campsite just a short drive from downtown Taos. Has a little setup for a tent, fire pit, and area for kitchen / cleaning with a port a potty as well. Don was super responsive and even gave us some firewood to make a lovely fire at night. Would definitely stay again! I recommend getting to the site during the day as it’s a dirt road and would be a bit tricky to find at night- Don helped with directions as well.

Don's property is true New Mexico gem. Off the beaten path and nestled among the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Excellent place to stay if you are looking to explore the natural wonders amongst the Rio Grande Gorge and Taos area. Watching the full moon rise each night over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains was the cherry on top. Don is a 10/10 host, highly recommended!

He had great recommendations, was super communicative, and filled the campsite with helpful amenities (water, fire pit, trash, etc.). We already can’t wait to come back!

As a desert dweller we enjoy the simple things, grass for the dogs to run and lay on, a tree big enough to shade the camper and great views. There was some road noise but not enough to be distracting.

Don is so kind and accommodating. Due to monsoon weather, it was too muddy to risk getting to my original spot so he put me up nearby. The next day he showed me the bonsai spot and that worked out just fine. Beautiful views all around!

This was our second time staying here and we just love it. Isolated enough for privacy. But only a few mins drive to essentials. Don is very thorough and thoughtful with ensuring there’s plenty of water and firewood. We will def be back!

This was a great spot if you are looking for a place close to all the outdoor opportunities that Taos offers with a great host, who provided plenty of firewood and fresh water at the site. There are houses nearby, which was not a downside for us, but if you're looking to feel out and alone you should look at his other property. The site was immaculate and we really enjoyed our stay.

It was a lovely full moon evening at Don’s ranch! Perfect place for a campervan, tent and hammock. There was plenty firewood to use, we had a great quiet night. Take the leftmost path on your way in from the main road.

Absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. I tent camped with my 3 dogs and they loved the freedom to roam and sniff. There's plenty of hiking on the property if you dont plan on leaving for other areas. We had a trip full of adventures. It's wild land, so make sure you have everything you need, especially water.. Don loves his land which makes him a great host. Would definitely go again.

Great site near Taos.

The location is great for visiting Taos and Arroyo Seco area. Large site (#2). Do left us Firewood and water to use during g our stay. His communication was easy and he was always attentive to our needs. The site is large enough to feel secluded. The porta potty is close by and shared with site 1. Directions are clear. The site was clean and well maintained- it included a table and chair. Very helpful. Recommended!!!

What a great place to pitch a tent for a couple of nights! Don has thought of everything essential: water, shovel, bucket, good directions. We enjoyed our time and the mountain views were gorgeous, with unreal sunsets. Would love to come back!

We loved tent camping at Don’s land! The location was perfect for us as we planned to hike Wheeler Peak the next day. We greatly appreciated Don’s hospitality. The camp site had plenty of space for our Bernese Mountain dog to run! We were so grateful for the table and chairs at the campsite! We would have loved to spend another evening there.

I brought a group of friends to the dragonfly site to celebrate a birthday. Dan went above and beyond to accommodate our group and even helped provide tables and chairs so that we could cater in a meal. I highly recommend this site and the camp host. The views were amazing and the hospitality was fantastic. Dan shared much about the history of his land and was eager to provide any additional information we needed.

Could not recommend this site more! Don was so communicative the whole time which was so helpful. The campsite itself is private & full of firewood, water, & a clean porta potty! Not to forget, the site itself is BEAUTIFUL - huge open land with stunning views of the mountains while also being driving distance to town! We were a group of 3 girls and i felt so safe the entire time. will definitely be back!

First and foremost, what stood out to me the most was how helpful, responsive, and accommodating Don was as a host! He always responded super promptly to any questions I had, provided tons of restaurant and trail recommendations, and even allowed us to move our reservation one day to try to avoid bad weather. He made everything super easy for us! As for the property itself, it was AWESOME! It is located basically at the foot of the mountains, with beautiful views, especially at sunrise and sunset. The flat, grassy area was perfect to pitch a tent and sleep comfortably. Our host made sure we had plenty of firewood as well. There's also a lot of brushy wood piled along the property that is great for kindling. The porta potty was super clean, with no smell at all. Overall, 10/10 experience at this site, and Don was an awesome host!

We loved dons property! We were happily surprised to see plenty of basic equipment provided for us. The sunshade was a lifesaver. We felt very safe and comfortable. Definitely better than a typical campground with plenty of privacy. Don was a super host too. He made sure to restock us with water and a truckload of firewood. Don was full of information about the property and surrounding area and recommended the nearby John Dunn recreation area which was beautiful and super fun. If you don’t check it out, you’re making a mistake! Such a wonderful experience all the way around for our first visit with Hipcamp. We’re already discussing our next visit here!

I loved this campsite so much that I booked an extra night. Don was so helpful and the area is amazing. It’s near the gorge and river and has the best sunrises and sunsets. He provided lots of firewood and this area would be amazing for a big group. I’m in a subaru so it was easy to get out there. Would recommend 1000%, just prepare if there’s heavy winds in the forecast since the space is wide open and you can even see snow capped mountains. I was a female traveling solo with my dogs and I felt super safe and I’m so grateful I got to experience this area. Thank you again!!
