The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

This is a private, Adult-Only (18+) clothing-optional dry tent camping experience designed for those who want to strip away the noise of the world. Because we are a hidden gem and still growing, there is a high chance that you will have the horizon to yourself. We are a work in progress with a mission: turning one man’s trash into campground treasures. We work to upcycle as many materials as possible, including a former football field turned grassy landing sites for tents and RV’s. Solar showers from recycled pallets. Signage created from old drill pipe and bed boards.
Our 15 acres butts up against some BLM land offering more terrain to explore in the buff. When you’re done exploring, cool off with a skinny dip in our 16’ x 32’ above ground pool. Or just lounge in the sun and work on your tan.

Dusty Rabbit Van Life @ Schrimsher Ranch is an alternative camping and Star Gazing location just outside of ROSWELL, yet close to the open road. A great place to relax under the stars, have a camp fire, and kick back next to your travel rig after a long day. You might just want to crash for the night in a safe location out on the rangeland or stay a day or two to enjoy the land to walk, mountain bike antelope trails, and maybe even Sniffers the pronghorn antelope will find ya before you head out. This is a primitive site, so leave no trace practice is appreciated and pack in/out is how we do it here. If you come in the summer prepare the morning coffee early and enjoy the desert sun's rays hit the Capitan, but by 9am it will be hot, so be ready! Best star gazing and satellite watching in the world!
I have several sites to choose from. But remember to keep an eye on the wind and weather as it can get crazy out here sometimes…..!!! I try to keep the sites stocked with firewood, but fill free to bring your own.
Lonely Bull Camp 1 is my most popular site. It is very private and is easily accessible by most vehicles and campers.
Ask about Lonely Bull Camp 4x4 if you have a capable vehicle. Amazing stars!!
Old Highway Camp is a great alternative if you want something closer to the highway and have a safe private place to pull over, camp, kickback, make a fire and get back to your life on the on the road in the morning. It is closer to the highway, but is quite at night and has great star gazing. Enjoy being greeted by The Mountain in the morning. Sunny Mellow Eco Villa is the land with a great history. The VERY QUIET, secret Shangra-La Valley just over the ridge from Route 66 (and I-40) was the camping place for Billy the Kid and his gang! They could quickly saddle up when the posted lookout on the ridge above signaled the passing of The Corrupt Santa Fe Cartel that bid to hold control of business throughout Lincoln County.
Even more stunning, it was the Tijeras Indian Pueblo Tribe's place of roaming and rest.
The land now sports an Organic Vineyard, Orchard and Vegetable Garden that guests my forage from when in bloom.

We’ve opened the first two of our twelve scrappy, scruffy little campsites sitting on just under four acres, a hair outside Tucumcari city limits. You’ll find star-splashed skies overhead, and the Route 66 glow of Tucumcari is just a hop and a skip down the road. Small-town convenience is literally a stone’s throw away. We’ve even got a fancy grocery store where they sell those little boxes of cheese from the world-famous Tucumcari Mountain Cheese Factory. Isn’t that right, Tex?

You’ll have access to a bathroom and shower and if you ask real nice (and we remembered to pay the gas bill), we even have hot water.
If you’re tired of smelling like bug spray, we’ve got a few rooms in the rock house you can maybe rent (but not right now because we have been too busy and they don't have usable beds in 'em ) assuming some other campers or one of those traveling nurses haven’t already taken them. Isn’t that right, Tex?

We’ve got all the features you’d expect from a primitive campground, plus a few extras like a place to build your fire as long as there’s no burn ban in effect. Please check with us before lighting a fire, ’cause when fires happen and they shouldn’t, they can get scary real fast.
And we will throw you under the bus, not that we’d have to since the firefighters can always tell where it started. The wind pushes the fire away from your campsite, leaving a burn pattern like a big arrow pointing right back at you. If you don’t believe me, just ask Mr. Williams, who had to explain to his wife why he couldn’t come home from his hunting trip just yet.
While I was writin’ this, Tex told me, “Edna, erase all that and just say, ‘Nice campground. Cheap.’”

Drinking water filtration is through Waterdrop Reverse Osmosis Water Purification System G3P600: pre-RO carbon and particulate filter, then RO, then post-RO carbon filter, then UV sterilization, then remineralization… you get the safest water that “tastes” great! Virden was settled by the Mormons when they were ran out of old Mexico by Poncho Villa.
Kit Carson took this route guiding General Kearney and the Army of the west to California during the Mexican American war.
It is now being discussed that Coronado may have come through this area also.

Welcomed near the Ranch gate by host, Victoria, who was very friendly, helpful and informative.
The site was level, spacious with great hookups. The ranch is beautiful, very clean and organized. My nature companion dog, Benito had 2 nights of good sleep and much needed respite from long travel.
I highly recommend this wonderful site that is far enough off the freeway (but not too far) with awesome views of the surrounding landscape!

Ray and Lucille are great. They were very accommodating and responsive. They always answered any questions we had and made sure we were comfortable. The site is in a beautiful and peaceful location away from the city hustle and bustle but close enough to anything a person could need. We will definitely be booking with them again

The yurt was comfortable and clean. The views from the top of the mountain were amazing! We saw hawks and hummingbirds. Kate, the host, is fantastic! So welcoming and friendly. We can’t wait to visit again!!

This forested camp ground/farm is always a favorite! We stayed here for our second time this summer. If you are tent camping site 1 and 2 are on the flat open land and seem to he very windy in the afternoons, so RV or camper camping would be more comfortable. The other sites are higher up in forested land with much of the wind blocked.
There is plenty for kids to do, it is peaceful for relaxation, and easy to camp on with their delicious well water and clean portable toilets.
I would recommend this camp ground for all ages!

Tent camping was awesome! Great restrooms, really nice owners, and a fun rec room. The last bit of the drive is fairly off-road, so I'd recommend an SUV or a truck. It was a really awesome experience on beautiful land.

If you want privacy but close main road access this may be a great spot for you. Don was a great host and provided plenty of information, along with supplemental information for activities and things to do around town . It was a pleasant experience!

This was a very enjoyable Hipcamp experience. DeDe and Kevin were gracious hosts and I greatly enjoyed chatting with them in their nice pool patio area. There is a vehicle track that extends from their property about 1/2 mile into BLM land for a nice quiet hike. I parked my trailer in their pull through RV parking area which has a turf pad for each RV site. The ground is soft, and some balancing is needed so be sure to bring wide trailer leveling blocks. I was the only camper during my visit, so had the pick of camp spots. Overall excellent experience!

The camp is in a beautiful location with its sites spread out well. The site we were in had a beautiful view, cooking supplies, and an enormous fire pit.
I particularly loved that there was a bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder at our campsite. We saw dozens of hummingbirds, Stellers jays, black headed grosbeaks, beautiful gray and orange house wrens, and sociable chipmunks.
Very peaceful and relaxing.
