Pavement Ends Campground

14 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Harrison, Sioux
We are a working cattle ranch that decided to open a campground on our property due to the isolation and distance that people were traveling to get to accommodations since Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, which borders our ranch on the west, doesn't allow any camping. The campground offers a quiet place to hookup, relax, and enjoy the dark night skies.

Peaceful Prairie Campsites

23 sites · RVs, Tents200 acres · Scotts Bluff
Visit us and discover why Hipcamp named our property the best Hipcamp to Visit in Nebraska in 2023 and 2022. Located within 2 miles from Hwy 71, we're easy to find, easy to love, and easy to leave, according to hundreds of guests who have left positive recommendations... Peaceful Prairie Campsites at Rose Hill consists of 200+ acres of prairie pasture bordering the south side of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Under the care of husband and wife team Frank Marquez and Lisa Betz-Marquez, the beautiful bluffs feature a rosy hue that glows on the hills at dawn and dusk. Tent sites (including pop up campers, car and camper vans but not RVs or pull-behind trailers) are located directly on the prairie. RV sites (all offering 50 amp electricity) are in a designated area on crushed concrete near our corral. All sites offer immediate foot access to hiking at various levels of challenge, including the south side of our nation's Scotts Bluff National Monument. Our 33-year-old sweetheart horse Tigger, is free roaming the area, and enjoys meeting campers. Tigger can be placed in another area if you would rather she didn't wander by for conversation. Prairie guests have relished the feeling of having the place to themselves to enjoy the majesty of the landscape, the magic of our starry night skies, and the delicious drinking water that comes from an aquifer deep underground. Lisa is the fourth generation of her family to live on Valley View Farm, located directly south of the prairie. Her family has been steward of these lands since 1925. Lisa is a member of a pioneer family. Ancestor, Martin Gering, came to the valley in 1887. As an early investor in the fledgling town, the town of Gering was named for him. If you're a history buff, ask Lisa to tell you more...

Theilen Produce Gardens

3 sites · RVs, TentsSchuyler, Colfax
Before the bailey's homesteaded the land the only other inhabitants could have been the migratory Pawnee. For the last hundred + years the farm has been in the bailey family, from a father with many children passing land to his sons, and eventually it would fall in the hands of his grandaughters' family who would eventually have a daughter herself who would start a produce business with a vision for living along the creek. So come here the many stories of times gone by and get a feast of what's to come!Learn more about this land:Pitch your tent next to the Shell Creek, access to a picnic table and a fire ring.  You will have privacy and also the ability to help out with farm life if you are so inclined. There is access to water and a composting toilet.A Great Pyrenees lives here.  She's the livestock guardian, she keeps watch over the farm at night.  Please don't bring your dogs.Pack it in. Pfanny's Farm

4 sites · Lodging, RVs11 acres · Randolph, Pierce
Please note: although we are not able to mark them off on the calendar, we do not do Sunday check-ins. If you check in on an earlier date, however, you are welcome to stay thru Sundays :) Welcome to Pfanny's Farm-we love sharing our little slice of heaven with our visitors :) A love for gardening and providing healthy home-grown fruits and vegetables for our family has supplied us with an abundance of produce for over 35 years. We have canned, dehydrated and frozen the excess but the kids have flown the coop and we have expanded our operations in order to provide our patrons with that same grown-with-love nourishment! Our geo-thermal greenhouse and 2 high-tunnels are the main attractions of our farm...we raise citrus in Nebraska! And now we are also delving into agritourism by allowing overnight visitors to stay and experience life on the farm. Tours are available for a fee-don't miss out on this experience :) A children's "trail-tale" can be enjoyed during a walk on our 1/2 mile trail. The trail is partially lined with a children's story and antique machinery for your viewing pleasure. The "binzebo" area, equipped with picnic tables and a nearby firepit is always a big hit. Enjoy a game of horseshoes or cornhole while waiting to watch a beautiful sunset, followed by a night sky that is unhindered by light pollution. The view of the Milky Way is fantastic! These are shared areas, so you might see us and our other visitors out there-join in and make some friends! We do have a very friendly dog-his name is Beau. He is known to hang out with our guests and beg for belly rubs :) Our chickens are occasionally free-range, so we require that your pets be on leash.

Camping in Nebraska guide

Smack in the heart of the Midwest, Nebraska is characterized by large expanses of prairie, massive lakes and reservoirs, and more than its fair share of unusual rock formations. It’s a great place to head if you want to feel like nobody else is around you, as most of the Nebraska population is concentrated in cities such as Omaha and Lincoln. While the many state parks and recreational areas certainly draw crowds on summer weekends, Nebraska has a certain stillness about it that attracts those seeking a quiet camping experience.

Where to Go

The Nebraska Panhandle

Northwestern Nebraska's sparsely populated panhandle is home to a mix of wide-open expanses of grasslands and unusual geologic features, a couple of which—namely Scotts Bluff and Agate Fossil Beds—have been preserved as national monuments by the National Park Service. Popular camping areas include Chadron State Park and Toadstool Geologic Park, which gets its name for its mushroom-shaped rock formations.

Central Nebraska

Central Nebraska is characterized by a mix of expansive grasslands and pioneer-era sites, with plenty of ways to experience the great outdoors. The Sandhills area is home to the Niobara National Scenic River, a popular spot to kayak and innertube in the hot summer months. Other highlights include the Massacre Canyon Monument, which marks the site of a battle between the Sioux and Pawnee people. Many of the region’s lakes and reservoirs also have campgrounds, including the adjacent Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala State Recreation Areas, as well as the Victoria Springs State Recreation Area and Medicine Creek State Recreation Area.

Eastern Nebraska

Much of Nebraska's best camping is in the northeastern corner of the state, owing largely to its proximity to the Missouri River—Indian Cave State Park is a particularly fun spot to explore. Birders should check out DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, which provides a rest area for ducks and geese during their fall migration. Eastern Nebraska is also a great place to learn about the Indigenous people of the region, particularly in Niobrara, home to the Ponca Tribal Museum and the Ponca Educational Trail and Earthlodge. Ponca State Park’s developed and primitive camping make for great boating, swimming, and wildlife spotting.

Omaha Surrounds

Nebraska's closest thing to a big city, Omaha offers a mix of indoor and outdoor attractions, from the botanical displays and natural areas at the Lauritzen Gardens to the Joslyn Art Museum, which features works from the likes of Titian and Renoir. Omaha is also a good base for getting to state parks along the Platte River, including Mahoney State Park and Platte River State Park.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best time of year to camp in Nebraska is during the late spring and early fall months, typically from May to June and September to October. During these periods, temperatures are mild and comfortable for outdoor activities, and you'll experience less humidity and fewer mosquitoes than in the peak summer months. Additionally, the fall season offers beautiful foliage colors, making it a great time to explore Nebraska's natural beauty.

The cost of camping in Nebraska state parks varies depending on the type of campsite and amenities offered. Generally, prices range from $10 to $35 per night for tent and RV camping. Primitive campsites with no electricity are at the lower end of the price range, while sites with electrical hookups, water, and sewer may be at the higher end.
