Peaceful Prairie Campsites consists of 200+ acres of prairie pasture bordering the south side of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Under the care of Gering native, Lisa Betz-Marquez, the beautiful bluffs feature a rosy hue that glows on the hills at dawn and dusk. Rustic Tent sites (also allowing pop up truck campers, car and camper vans but not RVs or pull-behind trailers) are located directly on the prairie. RV sites (all offering 50 amp electricity) are in a rustic designated area on crushed concrete near our corral. Delicious underground water and a funky outdoor camp shower is conveniently on site for all campers. All sites offer immediate foot access to hiking at various levels of challenge, including the south side of our nation's Scotts Bluff National Monument. Our 33-year-old sweetheart horse Tigger, and her gal pal Martha, the 27-year-old donkey, are free roaming the area. Both enjoy meeting campers. They can be placed in another area if you would rather they didn't wander by for conversation. A small group of yearling cattle are also at home on the prairie in summer months. Prairie guests have relished the feeling of having the place to themselves to enjoy the majesty of the landscape, the magic of our starry night skies. Lisa is the fourth generation of her family to live on Valley View Farm, located directly south of the prairie. Her family has been steward of these lands since 1925. Lisa is a member of a pioneer family. Ancestor, Martin Gering, came to the valley in 1887. As an early investor in the fledgling town, the town of Gering was named for him. We are a working cattle ranch that decided to open a campground on our property due to the isolation and distance that people were traveling to get to accommodations since Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, which borders our ranch on the west, doesn't allow any camping. We bought this land and built a 4000sqft barndiminiom to develop a therapeutic ranch, during COVID the vision had to be modified we still work with people at the ranch but in much smaller fashion than planned we are still wanting to privide opportunities for children and families within our community. We also take in rescue animals we have a 3 legged goat with no ears, a calf that was bling with broken leg, a foundered pony and there has been others along the way. We run this ranch as a family and bring in other family members to offer other opportunities. About

Rising 800 feet above the North Platte River in Nebraska is Scotts Bluff. The natural rock formation was a landmark for travelers migrating through the area. Migratory Native American tribes, traders, fur trappers, and westward-moving pioneers used Scotts Bluff as a rest stop and mile marker.

Take a drive to the top of the bluff to be on top of the world, or at least the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see Chimney Rock or maybe even Laramie Peak (at 90 miles) in the distance. Don't forget the binoculars!

The visitor center explains the natural and cultural history of the area. It shows how the bluff came to be and why it was an important natural feature. Covered wagons on the site showcase how settlers moved west along the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trails. Some geological artifacts in the museum include some fossils found on the 3,000-acre site.

Four miles of hiking trails let you wander over and around the bluff. The North Overlook Trail gives you a 360-degree panorama of the landscape below. Part of the walking trail includes the original Oregon Trail. This was the path taken by covered wagons as people headed west. Trail ruts through Mitchell Pass run the same path as pioneers did 200 years ago.

Campsites in and around the town of Scottsbluff provide a headquarters for your Midwestern adventure. Lake Minatare, northeast of town, offers boating, fishing, and swimming activities. Golf lovers can try their handicap at Monument Shadows Golf Course just east of the bluff.
