Weekend Trip to Rollinsville Adventure Camp

This is our second time camping on Edward’s land and we will most definitely be back! Edward maintains the land perfectly. It is peaceful and feels safe. Only an hour from our house, this is the perfect get away without having to drive too far. We love the amenities and the proximity to Rollinsville’s pizza place and coffee shop + Nederland. Truly a wonderful getaway!

Kimberly was an incredible host. She helped me troubleshoot issues that were preventing me from reserving the camp spot online, was super responsive, and ensured we found the site easily. Her property is beautiful and this site was perfect for our family. Set a bit further down the property, it (along with site #5) was relatively quiet and extremely peaceful. There was a soft, flat area for our large family tent. The firepit was perfect, and the two lawn chairs were a helpful, unexpected addition. I hadn't been in Rist Canyon before and the entire family loved it - gorgeous, forested areas - a birders paradise!

The camping was nice for a last minute booking! We did have some quite loud neighbors, who had an air horn they would periodically blow randomly which was frustrating but not to the fault of the host. The couple things that were harder to overlook was the porta potty was very full and the neighbor dogs barked for over and an hour one night which in the canyon echoed. Other than that, the area was beautiful and only a 25 minute drive to the horsetooth reservoir which was a big plus!

We came all the way from Chicago and it was well worth the drive! The amenities were amazing, especially considering we were all the way in the middle of a canyon! We still had AC plugs, hot water for the shower, a working kitchen sink and two burner stove. Beautiful views, the sounds of the creek, and the birds were so calming. The campers were so comfy, we slept better than we did in the hotels on the way there. Swimming in the swimming holes during the day was so fun and kept us nice and cool. We would 1000% stay here again.

The name is perfect- very serene! The spot feels secluded and private- compared to campground camping. Firewood was plentiful. Would definitely camp here again! Our dogs loved being off leash, too.

We absolutely loved our time at Rocky Mountain Glamping! Dot and Byron are excellent hosts and incredibly kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The site beautiful, and has everything you need to make your outside vacation comfortable. It is a great place to bring kids, and we’ll never forget our stay! We highly recommend!

We had a great time camping here. We loved the pond and the paddle boards they had available. My kids said it's their favorite trip so far. The hosts were friendly and attentive. There was even a trail/road right next to our site thru national forest to go exploring.

Holy smokes what a perfect place! Only an hour from Denver and yet it feels like you’re away from everything! All details and amenities are accounted for - from the darling tent with a four-poster bed and flannel sheets to the fabulous outdoor kitchen - fully stocked with everything you need and the cutest lights. The outdoor is a good time. Games like bean toss and axe throwing are available - plus darling spots to shut and have a coffee or watch the views. Definitely take a plunge in the river and lay out in the sun after. The hike to see wildflowers is wonderful. What a wonderful way to spend a weekend!

Nice spot. Fit our pop up camper perfectly. Was a nice quiet weekend there. Plenty of trees for hammocks and flat space to set up a canopy. Campsites are far enough apart to allow dogs off leash and there is fencing along the property line to keep the dogs contained. Had a porta potty as well which the ladies greatly appreciated. Cool spot for sure! May have to return next season!

NOTE: MOSQUITOES ARE BAD COME SUNSET - Nothing a campfire can't fix. We have spots in the meadow for RVs, Vans, Trailers, Rooftops and Tents. The grounds are a bit sloped but I provide leveling boards (please leave them behind). You may have neighbors, as it is literally an open meadow. We have a 4 meter canvas tent complete with a queen sized bed, fans, chairs, and a wood burning stove. We can handle RVs around 45 feet - truck and trailer. It’s a big field, but a narrow, winding and steep ramp to get in and out. If you are a nervous driver, perhaps choose another place to rest your head. We have a community fire pit with a pile of free burn wood, though the big logs are getting few and far between; bringing your own firewood is recommended, as well as an ax or saw If it's windy, please skip the fire... the BFD is very strict about this!! We have well water feeding a solar shower (only hot when the sun shines) and sink - non potable. We have a cold water plunge pool continually refreshed from the creek. I just built a new filter!! It’s a saving grace in the summertime. We have a community gas grill - please donate to the propane fund. We have fresh eggs up at the coop. Please help yourself. Watch out for the rooster. The chickens free range during the day, so KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR DOGS; leash if necessary. Our toilet is a porta john, pumped clean every Thursday. Do not bring your own firewood, as we don’t want more pine beetles and noxious weeds. New this year Bliss Camp is adding a 12' x 14' Glamping Tent Cabin. Bliss Canyon is a spur off of breathtaking, picturesque South Saint Vrain Canyon. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon! Dark Skies: If you like to watch the stars and meteor showers, Bliss Canyon is blessed with dark skies with little light from the plains. Bring your telescopes and explore the Universe. Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.) Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details. The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Also, Spirit Hound Distillery received the award for the #1, Best Whiskey in the World in 2022, hmmm, it might be worth a tasting! Due to our popularity reservations often fill up quickly. We suggest you make your reservations in advance especially if you have a group to rent the entire camp. At times there are last minute cancelations which allows for last minute openings. About

Right in the city of Loveland, Colorado, Boyd Lake is beloved by water sports enthusiasts, with about 1,700 surface acres of water that can be used by motorized and non-motorized boats alike. Other popular summertime activities include swimming, fishing, and birdwatching, while sledding, ice skating, and ice fishing are a source of winter fun. There’s only one place to camp in the park, Cottonwood Campground, which is suitable for RVs and tents, and offers solid amenities, including dump sites, hot showers, flush toilets, playgrounds, laundry facilities, and horseshoe pits.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve one of the Cottonwood Campground’s 148 tent and RV sites through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife online reservation system or over the phone.
Reservations can be made up to six months advance. Same-day reservations are also available.
While the campground is open during the winter season (November-March), the number of available campsites are reduced and only one restroom (with showers and flush toilets) remains open. Laundry is also not available during this period.

When to go

High season at Boyd Lake runs from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, and the park and its campground are at their busiest when school is out for summer. May has pleasantly warm weather but also gets the most rainfall out of any month of the year, while September is a good month for warm, dry weather without the summer vacation crowds. Spring and fall are the best times for spotting migratory waterfowl.

Know before you go

The closest place to pick up groceries and supplies is in Loveland, right by the park. Supermarkets, restaurants, and medical facilities are within a five-minute drive of the campground.
All campers must have both a camping reservation and a separate Colorado State Parks Annual Pass or a Daily Pass.
Campsites at Boyd Lake can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. The entry gate clearance is 14 feet and 2 inches.
Three wheelchair-accessible sites are in the campground.
