Book with us and discover why Hipcamp named our property the best Hipcamp to Visit in Nebraska in 2022! Located within 2 miles from Hwy 71, we're easy to find, easy to love, and easy to leave. Peaceful Prairie Campsites at Rose Hill consists of 200+ acres of healthy Oregon Trail-era prairie under the care of husband and wife team Frank Marquez and Lisa Betz-Marquez. The beautiful bluffs feature a rosy hue that glows on the hills at dawn and sunset. All sites offer immediate foot access to hiking at various levels of challenge, including the south side of Scotts Bluff National Monument (from dawn to dusk). A gorgeous herd of Hereford cows graze on the property in their own pasture, and free roaming retired horses, Tigger and Lightning, enjoy greeting campers. Guests enjoy the feeling of having the place to themselves. Many are thrilled by the magic of our starry night skies, and the delicious drinking water that comes from the aquifer deep underground. Lisa is the fourth generation of her family to live on Valley View Farm, located directly south of the prairie. Her family has been stewards of these lands since 1925. Lisa is a member of the Gering family, one of the early families that settled the area. Her ancestor, Martin Gering, came to the valley in 1887. As an early investor in the fledgling town, the city of Gering was named for him. If you're a history buff, ask Lisa to tell you more...

This is an absolutely stunning spot, particularly if you get lucky enough to catch the dramatic golden light of sunset against the bluffs just after a storm's rolled through. Lisa is very welcoming and clearly enjoys sharing this lovely landscape with others who will appreciate it.

Beautiful views of the bluffs.
We had a wonderful time here, the kids loved the horses and Lisa was incredibly kind and patient with them the first morning, explaining how to be around the horses and safe! The views were amazing, secluded but close to town. The water from the spigot was great drinking water and the hiking on their property was fun and easy to access. An awesome place to stay :)

Great hosts, great site
Fantastic stay. Quiet, well-dispersed site on a horse pasture with some really spectacular geography. Lisa was super generous with her time, and I got to hear about the land, the animals, and spend a little time with her horses. I even got a nice goodbye nuzzle on the way out. From a horse, not from Lisa herself (I'll be back, Tigger!). If you have time, it's worth staying awhile. Just be prepared for the sun and some wind - there's not much shade and you're wide open to the valley below.

Monument Marathon weekend.
Very quiet and peaceful! Was delighted to get a visit from the very friendly horses who were looking to share my fruit with me. Was there to get a good nights sleep before the Monument Marathon. And I got just that. And the race venue was just 5 minutes down the road. Bonus! Was even able to see both Frank and Lisa after the race. I ran the 5K and Frank ran the half marathon. A good day was had by all.

A Serene Prairie where Horses Roam
I work in VT during the winter and Wyoming during the summer and I wouldn’t dream of skipping Peaceful Prairie on my way! The sandstone formations that rise above the pastures are absolutely stunning and there are paths to hike in the afternoon before tenting or in the morning after breaking down camp! Lisa and Frank are wonderful people who are stewards of their land and their horses, who they took in because no one else wanted to care for older horses with a few health challenges. Unzipping my tent to be greeted by beautiful, gentle horses in the morning is such a delight! The big white Pyrenees, Cyrus, is an absolute darling who, if invited, will show his love by covering you in white hairs and slobber! There are even adorable burrowing owls a short walk from the campsite!

Amazing Prairie Camping
What an amazing place to camp. This is the second time visiting the property. Lisa and Frank are very responsive. The land is beautiful and they have the most friendly horses. There are great views of the sky so don't forget your telescope.

Two Days on the Peaceful Prairie
Exceptional experience at Peaceful Prairie! Lisa was a wonderful host - friendly, warm, engaging with a fascinating life story. The site was about the location - beautiful short grass prairie with Scotts Bluff National Monument as an inspiring background. The site has everything for a nature lover - beautiful scenery, stirring sunrises and sunsets, great hiking, and interesting wildlife. We had a fantastic time! Make sure you visit The Mixing Bowl in Gering for breakfast - the green chili sauce was incredible!

The views were even better than advertised! Tent camping under the stars was absolutely perfect. And the friendly horses greeted us in the morning. Went for a hike up to the monument before we left. Would absolutely recommend!

Great experience! Highly recommend!
We loved staying here! It is such beautiful land, and we were also lucky and got the whole plot to ourselves which was so private! We were surrounded by beautiful Scottsbluff and farmlands. We got to meet the horses and also the beautiful pup Lisa had. She was friendly, we enjoyed chatting with her and she was also helpful with reccomendations. The stars and sunsets are incredible.

Loved camping on the property. Had lots of space and great views, and the host had a lot of history of the region. Also enjoyed learning about the farming and irrigation practices in other parts of the world.

Peaceful Prairie (Foot Access Only)
Lisa and Frank's Prairie camping is breathtaking. While I only had a one night stay on my return journey from venturing through the Badlands, Black Hills, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton, it was fantastic. The views and experience is second to none. I was able to hike the back Prairie and even climb the side of the bluff that was recommended to do upon my arrival. The area is definitely warm in the days, but just as the listing states, once the sun touches the bluffs the evening really is beautiful. I would definitely stay again sometime, it's a beautiful retreat away from the noise of the city or your standard bustling campgrounds.

We had such a stunningly beautiful experience here. Lisa was a super gracious host and we really appreciated the tidbits of advice and comfort she provided. We truly felt welcomed. The views and sunsets/rises were unreal. Our only regret is not staying longer! Grateful for the opportunity to share space with coyote songs and the beautiful bluffs in this way. Big thanks to Lisa and Frank!

The land and Lisa (probably Frank too, but I didn't get to meet him) are wonderful. It was great to watch the sun set and rise on/around the buttes, and I went for a pleasant hike in the morning. It was a very nice stay.

Beautiful scenery and historic area
Excellent hipcamp. Lisa met us on arrival to fill us in on the details and let us know about campsite options, and was available for other questions during our stay. We spent two nights camping, a beautiful site, with the golden pasture to the North, extending to the base of Scotts Bluff National Monument, and the verdant green of the crops growing in the valley to the South, extending for miles to the next set of bluffs. Walking distance to Scotts Bluff National Monument (the property abuts the Monument grounds), and also to the preserved Robidoux Store, a stop for immigrants on the Oregon and California Trails to resupply for their trip. Beautiful scenery and history, I wish we would have had a couple more nights in our stay to explore more museums and historic sites in the area, as well as hike and explore the bluffs some more. My son even got off of his phone to watch the sunset light up the bluffs, and wait for the stars to come out. Unfortunately, we had to head on in our tour, but I hope that we're able to get back and enjoy this property some more. Very highly recommended.

Camping with a vintage trailer
Loved the quiet secluded spot. Lisa is a wonderful host and helped me find a great spot to swim during a heat wave. She shared interesting information about the area, the farm and things to do. I visited the Legacy of the Plains museum and took a scenic drive through the bluffs. An amazing spot if only for a night!

I did like the ranch land near the scenic bluffs and down the valley. If you want to camp here, bring your own water and camp toilet (if you're older). We were near trees and storms can be fierce, so tie all down securely. The 2 older and gentle horses can be moved to an adjacent pasture, which Lisa did for us without complaint. She is a pleasant host. For no amenities, I think it's a bit expensive, but overall enjoyed the land and sky and bluffs very much.

Stopped by as a last minute stay over as we were traveling cross country and needed a place to sleep for the night. Lisa could not have been more hospitable or helpful. She was immediately responsive to all messaging and we felt super comfortable about the whole vibe. Waking up at sunrise to the bluffs right in front of our camper was incredible. It truly was peaceful and we had an excellent night’s rest. I would highly recommend.

What a lovely couple. They let us check in early, but then, as "city slickers," we managed to get our car stuck (our fault) and they actually went and bought a tow chain and pulled us out of the rut. I went running in the mid-morning with Frank. Lisa gave the kiddos a terrific lesson on rattlesnakes. She also accommodated us by giving my kiddos a 7a lesson on chickens before beginning her morning routine at 7:30. Lisa also gave the kids a bag of horse treats, so the kiddos spent a decent amount of time feeding the horses. And they live just 5 minutes from civilization, so you can get a bite to eat in town or restock your supplies. There's no shade, but beautiful views!!!

100/10 recommend 🤩
This was quite literally the coolest camping experience I think we could have ever asked for. There’s a well maintained port-a potty, access to well water (ice cold and yummy), the horses freely chilled with us on the campsite, & Frank and Lisa were so kind & helpful. 100/10 recommend.
