We’ve opened the first two of our twelve scrappy, scruffy little campsites sitting on just under four acres, a hair outside Tucumcari city limits. You’ll find star-splashed skies overhead, and the Route 66 glow of Tucumcari is just a hop and a skip down the road. Small-town convenience is literally a stone’s throw away. We’ve even got a fancy grocery store where they sell those little boxes of cheese from the world-famous Tucumcari Mountain Cheese Factory. Isn’t that right, Tex?

You’ll have access to a bathroom and shower and if you ask real nice (and we remembered to pay the gas bill), we even have hot water.
If you’re tired of smelling like bug spray, we’ve got a few rooms in the rock house you can maybe rent (but not right now because we have been too busy and they don't have usable beds in 'em ) assuming some other campers or one of those traveling nurses haven’t already taken them. Isn’t that right, Tex?

We’ve got all the features you’d expect from a primitive campground, plus a few extras like a place to build your fire as long as there’s no burn ban in effect. Please check with us before lighting a fire, ’cause when fires happen and they shouldn’t, they can get scary real fast.
And we will throw you under the bus, not that we’d have to since the firefighters can always tell where it started. The wind pushes the fire away from your campsite, leaving a burn pattern like a big arrow pointing right back at you. If you don’t believe me, just ask Mr. Williams, who had to explain to his wife why he couldn’t come home from his hunting trip just yet.
While I was writin’ this, Tex told me, “Edna, erase all that and just say, ‘Nice campground. Cheap.’”

I was really happy to find this newly established Hipcamp in Tucumcari, New Mexico. "Tex and Edna" are awesome hosts who are very experienced in hospitality. They greeted me upon arrival and during the simple check-in they were enthusiastic; turns out I was their first hip-camper! So, that was cool!
After chatting for a moment, Tex led me and my van to a nice camp with wrought iron chairs and table and a clay fire place. A full indoor restroom and shower with hot water tied the entire experience together, making it an awesome value for an overnight stay.
This location is just off Interstate 40 on the outskirts of Tucumcari. Restaurants and gas, etc., are available nearby, even within walking distance.

Art City is a unique, AWESOME experience!!! Pedingo, the site manager/artist, was extremely helpful in helping us get our RV set up. We had an extra special experience as it snowed one night that we were there, the entire site was a magical white wonderland. Since it was a bit chilly outside, sitting in the sauna was a nice treat. If you plan to RV there you might want to bring extra long hoses and electrical cords, but if you don’t have them they might be able to help out with those. I would definitely recommend this site and plan on returning some day

This place is so Awesome! An amazing little Oasis in the middle of the New Mexico High Desert ranch land. Wonderful accommodations around the bath house. Great views of the Western Sky, Friendly host. I would 100% visit again.

This 40-acre art playground was the perfect overnight adventure for my dog Bandit and I to expl9re on our cross country trip. Beautiful communal facilities like an outdoor kitchen and showers... even a hot tub. The place really comes alive at night with lights. I highly recommend this gem.

We van camped in a beautiful spot under the cottonwoods with access to water & power. We loved exploring the art work during the day & at night. Some really cool lit up night time pieces!!! The kitchen, bath house & toilets were immaculate & had plenty of hot water. The manager was so knowledgeable about the art!! We highly recommend!!!

I initially booked my spot for 2 nights and extended it to 6. The art is phenomenal and everything else has been meticulously thought out and executed. The staff and Matty were extremely friendly, welcoming, and gracious. Everything, from the compostable toilets to showers and kitchen, sets this camping spot apart from any others I have been to. I truly fell in love with Art City and I highly recommend it.

Matty's Art City camp is my favorite when traveling the I40 Rt66 corridor. EZ to locate and close enough to town to explore and stock up. The staff is upbeat and helpful. Fellow campers and I agree that the shared spaces are fantastic. The art exhibits are over the top and I loved the young dog greeting me. Always something new, very pleasant 2 night Oct. stay Thanks

Beningo ( sp sorry) , our host was wonderful. He gave us such insight into Art City and his commitment was so real! We loved walking at night through the art installations but knowing some of the history behind the pieces made it so much better .
The facilities for cooking were most excellent .
The company enjoyable !
And the stars at night were inviting.
I would say “ stay more than a night for sure !”

You have to see it to believe it. Art City is such a joy to visit. I kept having to book more nights because I just couldn't leave that hot tub under the stars. The art installations that are spaced out all over the property are lit up so gorgeous at night. Bonus points because some of the art you can actually climb onto!!!! The bathrooms are soooo nice, full flush toilets and you will love the art in the bathrooms. Shower area and kitchen are both beautifully designed and functional. Cannot recommended this place more!!!!

Art City is a fun place to stay and I highly recommend it for anyone who’ll be in the Tucumcari area. We only stayed one night but could have easily stayed a few. The art is crazy fun and is perfect for anyone who likes to explore outdoors. The amenities are top notch for a camp and the hosts are super nice and helpful. They even went so far as to lend us tools to fix a bike. Just go when you get a chance!

Had such a great time at this beautiful place that I kept booking additional nights. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. A walk around the grounds is a dream, it's filled with art and sculptures!!! Some you can climb!!!!! Can't recommend a weekend stay and book a dip in the hot tub. Was able to relax and unwind here!!!! 10,000 thumbs up!!!!

This place feels magical. When I saw the Paradisium Forest it brought tears to my eyes. The care of collecting and then cutting each piece of wood to make something beautiful felt very grounding to me. Thank you Bendingo, for a nice evening.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. The art is well displayed and illuminated for two hours after dark or till batteries run low. The hot tub and sauna are a must do. Very clean environment but the weeds are pretty high. upon entry it states watch out for snakes but we did not see any. We did see several wild turkeys wandering around in the morning. The hostess very accommodating and showed the ropes of the property well. The art has all been displayed at burning man and is a must see.

This is such a great location. I camped here during a move across country, so I only walked around for a bit in the evening. This would be a great place to linger for a few days, and I plan to be back.
