Set above the historic town of Madrid N.M. is Waldo Mesa. The location of past mining operations and stunning Vista's.The campsite is 0.9 miles off highway 14 in the historic town of Madrid and up to the mesa. Site 1 can accommodate RV's and tall setups as well as tents. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navagate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. Both towns are very rich in history, from past ocean existance to Native American civilizations, silver and gold mining to booming wartime coalmining industries, to ghost towns.

Awesome view! Great communication by the host. It was a very relaxing time and the town where there are some lovely shops and a fun bar are just a short walk down the road. I will definitely be staying there again.

Beautiful spot to tent camp. Flat area for tent, metal firebox for a campfire, table, natural wood bench and wicker bench. The road to the camp site is a dirt/gravel road but was easy to travel. The town of Madrid was enjoyable with good food and music.

Incredible Experience
My girlfriend and I are driving across the country with our two dogs and camping in our Subaru along the way and this was the perfect place to stop. It is a bit of a bumpy ride up to the campsite but definitely worth it. We got in late so when we woke up is when we saw the amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Both of Kim’s dogs were very nice and polite and played well with our dogs. Kim was an excellent host and made us feel at home when we arrived, explained where everything was and let us know about the dogs. The property is very big so when she left we had plenty of privacy. Our highlight of this place is the really unique cemetery next to the campsite. We loved our stay here!

This was our first time using Hipcamp, and we absolutely loved our experience! The land was beautiful, and Kim was an incredible hostess. We towed a teardrop trailer behind our Ford F250, and we had no trouble getting our trailer up the mountain and into Site 1. Kim’s directions made it easy for us to find the site, and she reached out before we arrived and gave me her number to call or text her in case we had any questions, which we really appreciated. Kim also checked in with us after we arrived to make sure that we made it safely and asked if we needed anything from town while she was out, which we also really appreciated. We weren’t expecting it to snow while we were at this site, and as a result of the unexpected weather conditions, we had to stay an additional day to wait for the road to become safe enough for us to get back down with the trailer, but Kim was incredibly helpful and accomadating with us having to stay an extra night. I’d absolutely recommend staying at this site to anyone looking for a relatively isolated spot with great views! We’d love to stay at this campsite again next time we’re in this area!
