Desenrascanco is a Portuguese word meaning "the improvisation of haphazard but completely sound solutions at the last minute." It's a 62-acre Texas ranch for which we have big plans: land art, ecological restoration, creative retreats and more. In the meantime, we wanted to make it available on Hipcamp if anyone wants a complete escape from civilization for a night or more. It's beautiful, breathtaking land situated in the exact middle of nowhere, with a large variety of plants and wildlife. Learn more about this land: 30 minutes off I-10, a lonely dot on Google Maps, with no other human structures in sight. 1h45m to Guadalupe National Park 2h to Marfa 2h to El Paso 62 acres of Texas ranch land. Cows wandering around nearby, and a drink tank on the property. Other wildlife includes quail, coyotes, javelinas, mule deer and more! We are setting aside funds for an ecological restoration project, and want the land to be useful in the meantime so we have put it on Hipcamp! It's a short hike to the stunning views from the top of the hill, and ammonite fossils at the crest of the hill are just sticking right out of the ground! Can you find them?

David’s land is peaceful and quiet, an oasis off the freeway. We easily found it given his instructions and the views were lovely. Road was not bad for my vehicle, used 4x4 on the dirt as it was patchy in some places. Would recommend having some ground clearance if you are going to stay here. Lovely and would absolutely recommend and stay again!

Just you and the company you bring!
What a journey! We absolutely loved the long road in so the anticipation could build. We arrived at night and there were a few rough patches in the road as we got closer. Luckily the land was mostly dry so we made it through but it could get questionable after a rain for lower clearance vehicles. We couldn't exactly tell the boundaries of the land and how far in we were (didn't want to trespass!) so we ended up stopping just before the first gate and camping there. It was fantastic! And so was the sunrise the next morning! It was incredible to watch the desert come to life as the sun rose, especially after driving in during the dark. Took the pups on a morning walk and explored all the things - all the native grasses and Zinnia Grandiflora, Desert Christmas Cactus, Cane Cholla, Crown of Thorns, Yucca, Windmill Grass, Creosote Bush, Prickly Pear, Dwarf Desert Peony and too many more to name! I highly recommend hiking around and bending over to see all the tiny things growing on the desert floor. It's fascinating. We'll come back here next time we're passing through - for sure! We found delicious food at Sarita's in town - enchiladas montadas. Highly recommended as well.

If it has rained, this site is not accessible with a low clearance 2WD vehicle. Be cautious of previous rainfall and weather in the area. If it has been dry for a while, it would likely be ok. We encountered some deep mud at the entrance of the property that we could not pass. We were in a 4WD high clearance vehicle, and the mud was too thick and deep for us. We ended up camping somewhere else. It is beautiful out there, but roads can be sketchy.

Peaceful & private remote camping! Land is about 30 mins off I-10, down a dirt road for a bit and then you arrive at David's large plot of land. There are numerous spots to camp so just take your pic! Not many amenities so come prepared for wilderness camping at it's finest!

We just needed a place for the night but wish we could’ve stayed a little longer! Beautiful views, sunset, and stars! Also got to visit with some cows ❤️

Overall it was a very good experience. The skies were as dark as advertised, and it was fairly easy to find a random piece of desert to park in. The tank itself is surrounded by the traces of cows, so did not make for a great spot. However Sunset was beautiful, sunrise even more so. As solitude was my goal, I'd say I got what I came for.

We pulled our NuCamp T@b 400 Boondock to David’s property. Use gps to get to Sierra Blanca, and then follow David’s directions. He has a beautiful property—we felt like we were the last people on earth!

Quiet, secluded, back country campi
Very isolated and quiet! Which is exactly what we wanted. Its a bit of a drive down dirt roads from sierra blanca but worth it if its seclusion and peace that youre after. It too us approximately 2 hours to drive to Guadalupe mountai s national park. The roads are well marked and easy to find. They are a little rough and look like they would be problamatic to drive in wet weather so make sure you have 4 wheel drive if its supposed to rain. There is absolutely no other human presence around for miles. When the sun goes down it is beyond dark, absolutely no light pollution and the stars are amazing!

The land was gorgeous with plenty of places to camp. A word of caution, BE CAREFUL if you are driving a 2wd vehicle. The road out there was rough on my Toyota Camry. If it had rained when I was out there the road would have been way too muddy, and I would have been stuck out there. That being said the rough journey there paid off with a wonderful night under the billions of stars, and the feeling of being totally isolated from the world.

Stars galore
It's remote and super quiet with amazing views. Hard to beat the night skies . There was zero light or noise pollution. Monsoon season made the roads rather challenging but we have a high clearance vehicle and it was worth it.

Lone Desert Camping
This is the spot to camp! Pure desert isolation with beautiful scenery and nature. I had a 2wd and was totally fine on the roads. Lots of spots to camp and I hiked up the hill to find even more spots! Great place to desert camp and cows will be your camping neighbors.

The washboard dirt road out there is about 40 minutes, but my 2WD Escape handled it nicely. Gorgeous land, and very quiet. I was traveling long distance and it's the way to go. So much nicer waking up out there than some crummy highway motel!

Slightly remote but nice
It’s quite secluded, and the road in is as described in other reviews. I would not go there in a class A, but otherwise if you want to be away and actually camp in the desert, it’s perfect. Look at a map before you go for a sense of distance once you leave the pavement as Verizon came and went as we drove.

Stargazing and Sunsets
If you’re looking for remote, private, the whole rustic West Texas experience, this is it. We stayed here during a trip to the Guadalupe Mountains NP and loved our stay. The drive to the NP is about 2 hours but totally worth it to be able to have the entire area to yourself and have a campfire. Stargazing, sunset and sunrise are amazing. The dirt road is well kept aside from a few ruts. We drove average 40 mph on them. It does get windy so make sure you stake down your tents.

Beautiful and isolated ranch
Amazing! The site was very far on to ranch land—16 miles down dirt roads. This is my first time using the site, and I was a little nervous that I was in the wrong spot, but I ended up finding the area right by the watering receptacle for the cows. And yes, there are cows! They were a little wary of me but seemed friendly and I welcomed their company. This also means there’s a bit of manure you want to avoid. I arrived too late to hike the nearby hill, but it looked like it would’ve been a great hike. Luckily, I got there just in time for a beautiful sunset to the west and a gorgeous moon rise over the hill to my east in late October. Scenic and private, just as advertised.

We drove 18 miles down the dirt roads. Everything was dusty but that’s part of the experience. We saw the Milky Way at night! We wanted to be off the main road so we drove a bit and had trouble finding a open spot to pull the camper into. Great place to unplug

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in a tiny trailer. We chose to park near the fence on Mockingbird. It was very private and the directions were accurate. Great for overlanding.
