The Garden Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 2
Welcome! Here on The Lost Coast, one has the ability to find ‘Peace in the Quiet.’ On the road to tranquillity, it can be challenging. Driving from the north, before you reach the last hour on the Wildcat Road FUEL UP at FORTUNA OR FERNBRIDGE⛽️ the gas station in Petrolia may be empty. Once on Wildcat Road, you have one hour before arrival. Drive during sunlight hours. A 30 mile twisty, curvy, bumpy road that any car can drive-no big 35’ motor homes, where occasional 5mph hairpin turns are critical. The beauty is breathtaking when you reach the vast undeveloped pristine California coastline that brings tears to ones eyes. If you are driving from the south, fuel up in Garberville. We are REMOTE. Due to living in this wilderness, there are ticks, poison oak, deer, raccoons, coyote, cougars, and black bears. To protect our organic garden, we have three dogs-2 large Great Pyrenees and a cattle dog. They successfully keep all the wild animals away from the property. Because they are ‘working dogs’ DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG. We are a ‘safety first’ environment and will have ‘walkie talkies’ for you to communicate with us for any emergency, questions, or concerns. We only have a volunteer fire department for an emergency. The cell phone coverage is limited at best, and you will have a ‘Wi-Fi’ in the cabin. You may consider bringing that book you wanted to read, color, sing, write a letter, and take in the peace and quiet.☮️ There are outdoor fire restrictions thus no campfires allowed, sorry. The Garden Cabin is designed for two people and is simple, cute, made with love, and efficient. 💚Your cabin has a full sized comfortable bed, an outdoor undercover sink, portable heater, electricity, an outdoor bathtub and shower overlooking the hillside with a tin privacy screen and curtains. There is also a refrigerator, electric hot water kettle for tea or coffee, and no stove or cook top. We are a successful retired couple that have the opportunity to live as ‘green homesteaders’ and can share this rare lifestyle with others. We offer the cabin from Friday through Monday. Sunday the Community Center offers a nice breakfast/lunch which is another option to consider, no reservations necessary.🍳 The beach is an unspoiled divine coastline for 35 miles. 🌊This is the King Range National Conservation Area and too rugged for highway building. Hence, the remote region has been given the title, ‘The Lost Coast.’ Beach combing 🐚hike on The Lost Coast Trail, or just sit and watch the waves-it cleanses the heart and purifies the mind. We will give you suggestions on where to explore. We have ‘The Madrone Room’ where we deposit our fertilizer to make the compost for the garden-yes, a compost toilet 💩that is clean, and the best view of a forest with a meandering creek! We also provide a convenient toilet seat ‘pee bucket’ for the gals. Safety wise, our property has gopher holes, so bring proper shoes and clothing. We have your basic first aid bandages for minor injuries, but our location is 90 minutes away from the nearest hospital, so we have a standard ‘release form’ for you to sign upon your arrival. The Lost Coast is nature at its finest. Bring any food and provisions you’re comfortable eating, no smoking inside, bring a flashlight, 🔦and please pack out any trash (we don’t have curbside trash pickup) we will keep the compost for the garden. 🪴 We look forward to sharing our home with you. With kind regards, Dana & Dan
