The Retreat At Redwood Shores

We camped here in our truck tent and appreciated how quiet and peaceful the campground was. The staff accommodated our late-night arrival, which we really appreciated. The general store was convenient, although the hours seemed a little irregular. The bathroom was functional and not dirty, but the facilities overall felt a bit dated and could use some updating. Overall, it was a quiet place to camp, though we feel the property could benefit from a little more upkeep and management.

Pull Thru RV Site - 51ft

The site was fine but smelled strongly of animal urine and feces. Office staff was super nice and accommodating. They let us check in early and gave us the corner spot which was nice. This is our third time camping here and we will definitely be back.

Deluxe Family Log Cabin

I booked the day before my stay and didn’t receive confirmation until around 10:30am the next day. The posted office hours said 9am, but no one answered when I called between 9–10, so I made backup plans. When I arrived, the staff member was very nice, apologized, and explained that their summer hours are different from what was posted. The campground itself was very nice, but our cabin’s bathroom was quite dirty and clearly hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guest. It wasn’t a huge issue for a one-night stay, but I would have been disappointed if I were staying longer. Overall, I’d definitely stay again. I’d just book a few days ahead and hope for better bathroom cleanliness.

Rustic Log Cabin

I stay here everything I visit my daughter. Great location, easy access to Cal Poly Humbolt. Cabins are all great, comfortable beds, clean linens (bedding and towels) provided at no extra fee (the stated $20 extra for linens on the site is a glitch). Great place if you're travelling with pets- they have a closed space for dogs to run. Stayed there 5 or so times in the last year and I know there have been upgrades to cabins- if you're with a dog that can open doors, stay in a rustic cabin, there's no way a dog can open the door while you're relaxing on the porch h swing or at the site's picnic table and fire pit.

Start with the good. Friendly check-in and clean bathrooms, and pretty level tent sites. The bad. Fire pit had garbage in it and table was dirty and covered in sea shells, so site was not cleaned after the last person. Also, as others mentioned, the cabins were occupied by what looked like one party and they were up late.

Don’t do it

Horrible staff, place looked solid but doesn’t like to accept bookings till late and will Give you customer service line that closes before they even accept booking. Envelope that was said to be outside for me was not there and I forced to sleep with no amenities like electric. Only to then be woken up at 645 by a grumpy old man who didn’t gaf. Staff refunded me but didn’t seem to care or think it was much of a problem. Don’t stay here, listen to the other reviewers

Great Quick Stay with Good Value

I did a one-nighter. Got to the site pretty late at night and check-in was still a breeze. Brought my wife and dog to a standard site, which was about the right size. The sites are relatively close together, but they’re separated by bushes for some privacy. There were potable water spigots around, a picnic table, a fire pit, and restrooms. Saw a playground on-site, and while I didn't get a chance to check out the pool listed, it's nice to have. The restrooms could use some work as 2 out of 3 toilets wouldn’t lock, and the shower gaps made it pretty easy to see inside. Overall, for what I paid, I’m pretty happy.

The good is it has hot water showers and flush toilets. The bad is the noise from nearby Hwy 101 and partiers. Bring serious earplugs and/or sleeping pills.

This place needs a lot of work. It's a good place for a quick stay, but there's always something wrong. The time we were there I never once saw the bathrooms get cleaned, the soap dispensers were empty for days in the bathroom...how do you not check that? They don't seem to take any pride in their campground because there's always something wrong. At campsite T1 the sink had been full for the whole month we had been there, it was full of nasty Gunk and I don't know why it was never taken care of my husband had to clean it out in order to use it... Again why are we paying for this? The women's shower have black mold in there and there's a hole where water is leaking out.. there's always trash on the ground in the bathrooms the laundry room wasn't working and it is so filthy in there I feel disgusted even doing my laundry in there... I even once started sweeping because of how bad it was. The hot tub looks nasty and murky.. The second set of bathrooms on the other side of the park looks absolutely horrifying.. it seems like you can catch a disease on the ground.. it's just so run down they don't seem to care and they don't upkeep on anything so I don't know how they're staying in business.. I think they're just funding their own housing projects and not taking care of anything at the park. Also while we were there the bathroom the front bathroom was closed for a very long time and not even really sure what they did to them... I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here.

Retreat at the Redwoods is a good place to stop and reset. We did our laundry, took showers and bought a few items at the store. The management was friendly and helpful. It’s a standard RV park, but it’s well maintained. Stop here if you need to clean up and sleep over in a safe space.

Overall, it could have been worse but it could have been better. The plot itself was really nice. Although I'd have thought a deluxe plot might have been bigger. Some of the picnic tables were broken, the bathrooms were kinda gross (but to be fair the guy was actively working on modernizing them). Really easy to locate. Feel like something could be done about people who are deciding to show up at 11 or 12 at night and being super loud/have their big loud trucks still on with their high beams so bright shining on others tents. Woke up several times between 12-2am to people showing up way later than they should then talking so loudly I can hear them inside my tent. That'd be the biggest ask is limit just how late people can be before they forfeit their spots due to the supposed "quiet hours".

Wonderful hidden gem

So happy to have found this spot! It was easy to book on the website and you can pick your spot from the map. The amenities are clean and our kids had the best time biking around the campground to access the pool, playground, and giant chess board. Our dogs also enjoyed themselves. At night it’s quiet and you can watch the bats swooping down for the bugs at dusk!

Beautiful and private tent site

My partner and I were on a motorcycle trip and spent 4 nights tenting. The site was nice and private, we had a fire every night, it was beautiful and quiet. The showers and washrooms were kept very clean as was the campground. The staff was very helpful and friendly, we definitely would stay again.

I reserved a tent site, got an rv site between 3 rvs. Headlights shining on the tent and generators humming. Someone was yelling at three in the morning. I couldn’t wait to leave in the morning.

Had a great experience tent camping @ The Retreat! It felt like a little community— great staff and people around, while still enjoying privacy at our own site. We enjoyed using the hot tub & showers after a long road trip, and it’s a great location tucked away in the trees across the bay while still feeling accessible to town. Would definitely recommend!

We loved our tent site and the kids park was an added bonus. Loved that they are pet friendly, have water/electric tent sites and two bathrooms. However it would have been great if the second bathroom was remodeled like the one by the office. Regardless we are happy to return. There was some issues/confusion with booking through Hipcamp but I messaged the front desk through Hipcamp and they responded promptly and were able to help me switch sites effortlessly since we were arriving after hours.

After seeing a negative review here and on other sites, I was nervous, but recent reviews were mostly positive so I booked the spot. Upon arriving it was clear that there is some level of new management in place and there were folks working on the property throughout my stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. It’s great that they have newish bathrooms and laundry facilities. The bathrooms did not yet have signs up so I was somewhat guessing which door to go through. There are different codes for ladies versus mens, so I wasn’t worried that I’d actually walk into the wrong one. The playground was being fixed up when I was there so it’s probably done now. It looked new and safe. The pool is far from being ready and something on there should be updated to indicate that it is not an available amenity. There were definitely some long term stays among the rigs, but most outside areas seemed clean and tidy - I even met some friendly kitties who were hanging outside their rig. The signage to enter is confusing as well. The road sign still has the KOA icon (not that a business can do anything about that) and the sign once you pull in (the campground is set off the street past another business) is for a former iteration of management. All in all, it was decent value for the money but advertising and signage need improvements. I’m sure it’ll be nice in no time!

Back In RV Site - 50ft

This RV park has all the potential to be a nice place laundry facilities, dog park, beautiful trees, even a pool. Unfortunately, the park is not maintained at all for example: the grass is long, the dog park is full of poop, trash in the bbqs, smashed glass on the campsites and even dog poop on campsites. We messaged to ask someone to clean our site but had no reply for the entire stay. To add, there is a lot of old run down RVs with people living from them.

Pull Thru RV Site - 53ft

This campground is easy to get to, right off of Route 101, technically in Bayside, but right outside of Eureka proper. It is very clean, has really clean laundry facilities, hook-ups work great. There are fantastic lawn games including mini golf and pool/hot tub (seasonally).

This is a really cute simple little cabin in a relaxed RV park. It is really nice for the price, comfortable and clean mattresses and quiet area. I will definitely be back if I’m in the area.
