Wendy &amp; John Farm

We absolutely loved our stay at Wendy & John's farm and would recommend it to anyone visiting the Ferndale area. We didn't get to meet Wendy, but John was incredibly friendly, and we saw him every day cleaning and maintaining the tent sites—it was clear he takes a lot of pride in the property. Their dog, Louie, was an added bonus and a total cutie. We stayed at both the Hazelwood site and the Big Tent site. One of our favorite parts was not having to pack our own tent or sleeping pads. That convenience made the trip so much more relaxing, and the airbeds were about as comfortable as airbeds can be. The amenities really exceeded our expectations. Having a real bathroom was fantastic, and my boyfriend said the shower was top-notch. We also really appreciated the dishwashing sink. The free firewood was appreciated as well. The campground itself was peaceful, and everyone we encountered was quiet and respectful. At night, we could even hear the ocean in the distance, which made for a very relaxing atmosphere. The location couldn't be better—just a few minutes from charming Ferndale, making it the perfect home base for exploring the area. It's also fantastic for dogs, with a huge field for them to run and play. While the nearby beach was a bit too rough for our dog to swim safely, we found the Eel River to be a great alternative with calmer water. If this place were closer, we'd probably be here every weekend. Amazing value, wonderful hosts, and a beautiful property.

This site was very beautiful and clean. Gorgeous scenery, unfortunately we came during rain and had to hunker down for the night. Sites were pretty secluded, we just had trouble with a site neighbors dogs running at our kids barking. 100% would love to visit again.

Beautiful property, flushable toilet, hot water, and if you order, delicious food. We loved our hearty soup. Our dog loved exploring the area, and it's close to Centerville Beach. Wendy, John, and Louie (sweet dog) were great hosts!

Such a peaceful location! Exactly as described and very easy to locate. The warm welcome from Wendy, John, and Louie made my first HipCamp experience wonderful. I enjoyed 3 nights solo-camping with birdsong, plenty of fireside reading, and restful sleep. Knowing what to look forward to, I will absolutely stay again in the future!

A lovely place to camp.

It was a lovely place to camp. A large meadow with separate camp spots for 4 different campers. There were fire pits with plenty of wood, a fire starter and lighter. The hosts thought of everything. They even made us fresh baked bread and berry cobbler. We would absolutely stay here again if we are in Ferndale!

Thank you to Wendy and John for maintaining such a great property for campers. The fresh baked bread was incredible and sleeping to sounds of ocean waves while firmly in the emerald green of Humboldt was beyond peaceful. 5/5 would stay again!

Another fabulous stay at Wendy and John's place. This is our happy place. I believe it was our 10th stay. Only had the sourdough bread this time but delicious as always with the home made jam. Can't wait to come back.

Lovely welcoming experience, very professionally managed and very spacious field that was easy to drive a 2wd across even though it was starting to rain. Internet wifi did work at the far end of the field.

Sprawling creekside w/swing set

We had a great stay at Wendy and John's farm and we hope to come back and stay again soon! The location is just a few minutes out of Ferndale and just a few minutes from a long, sandy beach where we walked the dog in the morning. Wendy and John greeted us warmly, inviting us to their home for dinner and coffee the next morning. The camp site was a huge open field, with plenty of privacy between the sites.

Wendy and John have a nice rural property in Northern California. We stayed two nights in our van, but they also have sites setup with a tent. Basic bath and shower which was fine. It’s a short drive or walk to a nice wild beach. We would stay there again when in the area.

This was such an incredible spacious site! It was private and quiet. Having a shower and a toilet was a game changer. Wendy and John were so accommodating. They checked in to see if we needed any more fire starter for our fire pit. We’ll definitely be back in the future! The additional purchase of the berry cobbler and fresh bread was just a bonus to a wonderful stay!

Lovely property

Wendy and John are lovely, welcoming hosts and their property is gorgeous. Don’t skip the fresh bread. Highly recommend! The bathroom was clean and the shower is HUGE and hot. The tucked away spot is near the creek and very peaceful. This are the highlights. However, the site is a fairly close to the next site over, made noticeable by a screaming toddler during my visit. The parents made zero effort to address the issue and let the child yell full bore and tantrum nonstop until 11:20pm, which was highly disruptive to the relaxing evening I had hoped for. Nothing to do with the location, but because they advertise it as a family friendly spot, be aware it may not be as peaceful or quiet as people without children anticipate.

Beautiful land tucked away just a mile from the beach with no light pollution so you can see the stars on clear nights. We felt welcomed and comfortable there and enjoyed the bread and cobbler! I would recommend this to my friends for sure!

What a great hidden gem!!! I am self contained van but having the showers was nice! You could hear the roar of the ocean all day and what a beach! I hiked in both directions 4 miles and only a few ppl out! Nice change from the heat of Grass Valley this week!

From the friendly welcome to the quiet, peaceful overnight stay - I enjoyed Wendy and John's farm from the moment to I got there until I woke up and left in the morning! It was a perfect spot for my car camping night on my drive down the coast. The would definitely stay here again and hopefully for more than one night to enjoy the Ferndale area!

Wendy and John’s property was just what we need to charge up our depleted internal batteries. It’s close to the beach. Close to Ferndale town. Camp residents are spaced far out. They had been very generous with the camp fire wood. There’s a big pile and it’s free. And the best part of it would be the couple who owns the property. Will definitely come back. Thank you!

Nana's Indoor Comfort Zone

We stayed in our van at Wendy and John's. The place was beautiful and quiet. The fire ring at each site was a great bonus. Everything is well maintained. Showers were great, and having a bathroom is a nice bonus.

Best hosts you will

This visit to Wendy and John’s house was our 3rd because we love it and it has now become a must visit destination on our road trips. This visit my husband and I stayed in the Airbnb for the first time and it was old world charming with new world cleanliness. Linens felt and smelled clean and fresh. All floors and surfaces were deeply cleaned and we were very warm and cozy. We opted for the dinner with John and Wendy and our family of 4 enjoyed a delicious home cooked family meal with wonderful conversation. I highly recommend because both Wendy and John have many stories to share and were overall a delight to share a meal with. Our teenage sons slept in a tent (because there is only room for 2 inside). So we were also able to enjoy their camping space and outdoor fire pit. If you are in the area staying with Wendy and John is an experience you do not want to skip! We will be back again.

What a lovely spot! Everything about the property, the welcome, the location, was incredible. After a few weeks on the road, this was our last spot, and it was perfect for a relaxing night of relaxing, clean bathrooms, and a campfire. The walk to the ocean is beautiful and well worth it as well. We can’t wait to come back and bring family!
