Wendy and John were great. Beautiful spot. Quiet. Clean bathroom. We really enjoyed Wendy’s homemade soup and John-Scott's bread right out of the oven. They even gifted us a piece of cake! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely camping with food!

Our family had a fantastic time at Wendy and John's farm. I love that the farm is outside of Ferndale (an adorable town) and less than a mile from a beautiful beach. There are 4 campsites situated around a very large grass meadow, with tall trees around the perimeter and a creek running by. The farm is peaceful, quiet, and tucked away. I enjoyed that our campsite came with a table, fire ring, and firewood. We loved the soup, warm baguette, crumble, and morning coffee that we purchased from Wendy and John. We brought other food, but the soup, baguette, and crumble make a full dinner on their own. I also appreciated that the farm has a bit of community with other campers, Wendy, and John. The beach down the road was a great way to spend the day. It is rugged and there were hardly any people out there. Our kids played in the shallow parts of the water, jumped on a shelf of sand, and collected rocks. We will be back!

Wendy and John were wonderful hosts. Gave me privacy but also were helpful. John even started a fire for me! The bathrooms were clean and the showers had hot water. The only disappointment is that locals drive so fast and its a bendy road so better to drive the short way than walk to the gorgeous beach. Very recommended, esp dog friendly.

The site is located in the backyard of Wendy‘s house. it is quite large. There are only five or six sites scattered around and each tent has big enough space and the tent is provided. there are hot water. two bathrooms, shower. and the host can also offer food upon request.

Amazing evening!

We loved staying in the ferns at Wendy and John’s! We booked midday for the evening as we were on the road and they were still ready for us! Quick access to a beautiful secluded beach. Facilities including bathroom and showers were nice and clean. We didn’t need a tent but was an added bonus and my boys slept comfortably while we slept in our camper van. FREE firewood. And the icing on the cake was the added on cobbler delivered in a wicker basket with ice cream. Such a lovely experience in a beautiful place that you otherwise wouldn’t have access too! Thanks Wendy and John!

Amazing place to spend time. So peaceful!! It’s a large piece of property with generous spacing between the sites. There is an adorable bathroom. So relaxing!! We made an error on our reservation and Wendy was so kind and accommodating. We enjoyed chatting with her!! The town of Arcata is super cute too.

We loved camping on Wendy and John's land: it's a perfect blend of a remote parcel with supportive hosts. We truly appreciated the free firewood and fire starter kit in place at our site. Since there was no cell service, the wifi was handy for keeping up with anything urgent from those back home. The bathroom/shower/dish cleaning area was clean and tidy, and while we didn't need them, Wendy and John were standing by to help with anything we needed. Will definitely return next time we're on the Lost Coast!

We had a very nice experience camping. The campsite had a tent ready, lots of firewood, and easily accessible hosts. The campground was peaceful, quiet, and had a beautiful meadow setting with a spectacular hillside. We would stay again and hopefully can soon

We liked the nature walk trail, creek, and swing set. Restrooms and showers were clean and convenient. Our campsite was sprawling and the edge was at the owner’s home. Happy to recommend this site to others with kiddos looking for easy and comfortable camping. It is only 10-15 minutes from the town of Ferndale. The location is easy to find. The owners are kind and welcoming.

John and Wendy are the perfect hosts. The campsite was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We also took advantage of their dinner option. The food was delicious and the conversation was lively. This was our 2nd visit to their hipcamp and, if we find ourselves on the north coast again, we'll definitely return.

Wendy and John’s Hipcamp

They were fabulous hosts, their property was beautiful and a mile from the sea. You can walk or drive. They give you twelve things to know in general, such as WiFi, regards to washing clothes, and food nearby. They had spectacular, clean bathrooms, and an overall clean feel. It’s cozy, and it’s wonderful.

This is our second time staying here. We love the beautiful space they provide including clean bathroom facilities and an open space that feels welcoming and private. Our dog could run free and it felt safe and comfortable. They provided a delicious soup and desert for a small fee. Highly recommend! And Ferndale is charming with good options for food/shops.

Incredible Nature and Amenities

Wow, this spot is a gem! Wendy and John are lovely hosts and the land is stunningly beautiful. If you like being immersed in nature and taking a hot shower in between adventure days, this place is great. We were a party of 4 with two self-contained vehicles, and this place is easy to access (you do drive across a field to some of the sites). The bathroom, sink for dishes, and shower are such a nice touch. There were a million birds, critters, and banana slugs during our stay, and the ocean is a quick drive or walk away. Our dogs had a great time and while the hosts’ dog is friendly/neutral, he even respected our desire for space (some of ours are not inclined to meet strange dogs). It is noticeably chillier than other areas of Humboldt during the summer so bring extra layers! We will absolutely be back.

We absolutely loved our stay at Wendy & John's farm and would recommend it to anyone visiting the Ferndale area. We didn't get to meet Wendy, but John was incredibly friendly, and we saw him every day cleaning and maintaining the tent sites—it was clear he takes a lot of pride in the property. Their dog, Louie, was an added bonus and a total cutie. We stayed at both the Hazelwood site and the Big Tent site. One of our favorite parts was not having to pack our own tent or sleeping pads. That convenience made the trip so much more relaxing, and the airbeds were about as comfortable as airbeds can be. The amenities really exceeded our expectations. Having a real bathroom was fantastic, and my boyfriend said the shower was top-notch. We also really appreciated the dishwashing sink. The free firewood was appreciated as well. The campground itself was peaceful, and everyone we encountered was quiet and respectful. At night, we could even hear the ocean in the distance, which made for a very relaxing atmosphere. The location couldn't be better—just a few minutes from charming Ferndale, making it the perfect home base for exploring the area. It's also fantastic for dogs, with a huge field for them to run and play. While the nearby beach was a bit too rough for our dog to swim safely, we found the Eel River to be a great alternative with calmer water. If this place were closer, we'd probably be here every weekend. Amazing value, wonderful hosts, and a beautiful property.
