Previously known as Redwood Lake Resort and Stone Lagoon Campground, Elk Country RV Resort is conveniently located along the renowned Redwood Highway (Hwy 101), just a short 35-minute drive south of Eureka, CA. Visitors can easily spot the local elk herd or the charming little Red School House and Barn nearby. As a tent site it is too bright with the light on a utility pole. If you’re in an RV with blackout curtains it could work. It’s at the end of the row of sites so nobody on one side but there is a house across the way. I’m too used to more wilderness camping.

Enjoyed our stay here. I am not sure I would stay here right after the 4th of July again (the ‘Murica vibe was intense, but didn’t cause any issues), but it’s a great spot. Lots of campsites, could deal with a little more maintenance of the tent camping sites. Some organic trash at the site when we arrived that was a little frustrating. The water can definitely look a bit funky, but is fine if you let it run a little before using. Appreciate the bathrooms, and option for showers and laundry. The store is a nice thing to have as well (a bit pricey, but where else are ya gonna get stuff?). Highlights for us at the site were the elk (we’re in our camp one of our mornings, SO cool), and the chainsaw carving next door. Good spot to stay for Trees of Mystery (I would call it a ‘must’ do in the area) as well.

What an amazing Hipcamp experience! The campsite was beautifully nestled among the trees, making it feel peaceful, private, and incredibly relaxing. Everything was exceptionally clean, and the bathrooms were some of the nicest we’ve seen while camping. The trash and recycling were managed really well, which helped keep the entire property spotless. Our family had a fantastic time exploring and enjoying the nearby pond—it was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The host went above and beyond by delivering firewood directly to our campsite, which was such a thoughtful touch. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Overall, this was one of the best camping experiences we’ve had. We can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-maintained getaway in nature!

The site we had was across from the dumpster, but it was not very close and did not smell. The perk of our site was that we really only had one neighbor, it backed up against trees. Downside is if u have little ones it was next to the main drag and many did not obey the 5 mph speed limit. Playground was very close if u don’t want to hear kids. Bathrooms were close, but not too close. We lucked out for last minute spot.

This site is awesome, bathrooms are well maintained, showers run on coin deposits so no one’s wasting water. Theres a small stream running through the backside of some of the sites that provided some white noise after a long day of exploring. However, the symphony of frogs and birds will lull you to sleep if you aren’t near the stream! 1000% recommend if you’re in need of a good site near the Redwoods NP/SP ! The groundskeeper mentioned that they just started using HipCamp, so if you’re in need of a great location for a base camp, definitely book here! P.S. wake up around 6-7AM and head over to the large field for a chance to spot some Elk!

This RV campground wasn’t the most all-inclusive. Showers are available, but are priced out by the minute. However, it certainly delivered on the “Elk Country” moniker, since my sister and I woke up to a herd of elk our first morning there! Also, this location is conveniently located for hiking in the various Redwood parks, and is very close to the coastline. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The campsites are located close to the entrance to Redwoods National Park. Lots of good quick hikes and beaches nearby. The location is solid but the campgrounds aren't the best. There's only one set of bathrooms that weren't super clean like the other sites I've stayed at. Also you have to be there before 5pm to talk with host to get your campsite. It's easier to book from their website rather than hipcamp. I got there a little after 5 and I had no idea where to go or what site I was at. Lucky the camp host was around and helped me out. The staff is super helpful and helped me get a site and find some good hikes and things to see in the area. The showers are quarter operated so bring a lot of you want a nice long shower. The cell service is pretty scarce there so make sure you have everything prepared before getting there. A little bit of service right by the main store. Would stay gain but would recommend getting there early and probably booking directly through their site to minimize the confusion.

I think this is a great campground for families. If you’re looking for a little solitude, this is probably not it. Some of the tent camping sites were really packed tightly together. They even had smaller fire pits to accommodate for the smaller size. My tent had to be about 5 feet from the next-door neighbors tent. For RV camping is probably great as they seem to have much larger spots. It was still convenient and felt very safe and the setting is nice.

We're a bit mixed. There's lots to recommend about this place: friendly staff, clean bathrooms, showers and laundry, some Internet, small lake and hiking trails. The main negative is the small size of the tent sites.

Back-In Forest Unit
Campground was great! The amenities were clean and the little lake is very pretty. We saw Elk and hawks and frogs. Be Aware that although they say there is WiFi, it comes with a steep price! $25 for 24 hours, and there is no cell phone reception for Verizon. They have “free WiFi” but it is only for 30 minutes once every 24 hours.

Tent site Forest - WATER-NO PO
The campsite, location and checkin process were very easy and it’s a great place. There were very loud people who talked til 1am so we didn’t get much sleep, so it would be nice if they had a more serious quiet policy.
