I loved our spot 6! Super shaded, awesome host. Kudos to John and Bodhi. It was literally 20 mins from everything we wanted to do. Winery & Cidery were great. Yes, bathroom was a little trek, but always clean and well stocked, bonus on HipCamp! Definitely will visit again!

The place was just perfect for us. We have four months old baby and we decided to try do camping for the first time. The hosts are very sweet and nice and gave me a few options when I arrived, even though I booked a specific spot. Highly recommend.

What a great place. Everything was just what I was looking for. Shade to keep its cool, sun to keep the solar going, open spaces, easy access AND WINE!!!! The host was very inviting and accommodated our needs. I would definitely stay here again and again.

Excellent vibe. Easy drive to Santa Cruz. Walked into town for dinner and a stroll to the covered bridge. Saw coyotes, great horned owls and the moon rise over the live oak canopy. This will be my go-to accommodation when I visit my son in Santa Cruz.

I really enjoyed my stay here because I found it relaxing and comfortable. There were mostly RVs, families, and a lot of happy dogs. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. John was nice. Great price per night too.

Great spot! John was a fantastic host! Bodhi was even better…but only because I like dogs more than people. We will definitely be back! Great spot for bird watching, relaxing, or using it as base camp to explore the area.

Site 1 - Felton Open Space Camp Sites

We had a wonderful stay at Site 7! John was a fantastic host—incredibly kind and accommodating throughout our visit. Hearing the distant whistle of the Roaring Camp train was a lovely touch that the kids absolutely adored. Even though there’s only one bathroom on the property, it was never an issue or a wait, and it was always clean and spacious. The kids also loved the friendly visits from the resident dogs and cats. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

Amazing place in a beautiful part of California. Walk to Felton or just hang in your camp and enjoy the property. John, the Host is most excellent at making you feel welcome. We’ll come back again!

We loved our experience. The location is amazing - super close to all of the most magical state parks, trees, forests, swimming holes and the city of Santa Cruz proper. I do wish I had known that the bathroom is a LONG walk away from the campsite (5min). Also, there is only one toilet for all 8 campsites (there were several nights that they were all full). So that's one toilet for up to 24 people plus the people at the winery. The campsites are literally all on top of each other. No privacy or separation at all whatsoever. None of this is made clear in the listing. I probably would stay there again, but I wish I had known this information beforehand.

Overall it’s a nice, and quiet place however, for people who come with a tent the bathrooms are far way. The sites are close to each other so there isn’t much of privacy. I do think the site should at least have a picnic table to save others from carry their own.

Really enjoyed staying in that Meadow with my tent and dog. Very nice and quiet and located close to the city of Felton. John was friendly and welcoming as well as the lady in the winery. Will definitely stay here again. Keep your little dogs on the leash due to the coyotes.😳

Site 30 - Felton Open Space Camp Sites

We camped for 4 days on John's land ( #2) and were very happy to be there. It was very quiet and calm. We loved the occasional sounds of the Roaring Camp steam engine, the owls and one night we could hear the local coyotes howling like a they were having a party. It was quite magical. The other campers were nice and also quiet. It is a great location, walking distance to the small town of Felton, which is sweet, or a short drive to Santa Cruz. John is a great host, we really appreciated his knowledge about the wildlife on his land. Take time to visit the tasting room and make sure to try the cider, especially the Sorcery! Be aware that the driveway has a steep entrance that caused us to bottom out in our 16' trailer both coming in and leaving, even though we took it at an angle.

Site 1 - Felton Open Space Camp Sites

Very peaceful site - spaces are close but there are not many and there were few others there midweek. My site (#1) was at the end and faced the shrine, which is subtly lit at night— that and the wildlife (deer, coyotes, Great Horned owls and lots of birds and ground squirrels) made for relaxing and meditative evenings. Site was easy to get into — I was able to pull through in my small teardrop trailer (although you will need to detach and park so as not to disturb the neighboring property). Didn’t get a chance to try the wine or cider but will be back to do so! Even if it’s closed, there’s a deck and chairs to lounge on there. It’s walking distance to Felton’s main drag (Hwy 9) if you don’t mind the hill on the way back. John is a kind and responsive host, and it was a pleasure to chat with him and meet Bodhi. One warning, while clean and comfortable, the bathroom is a trek, so be sure you have that situation handled. I don’t know that I’d want to walk that it the middle of the night. No shower, but that’s clearly stated. Close to hiking and biking and all the nature you could want. I’m in the area often and will definitely be back!

Cute little spot near Santa Cruz! It was ideal for my 16 foot Casita camper. Sweet spots, and pretty easy access to all the fun stuff. There was some confusion upon our arrival and checkin. We had chosen a site based on pictures. We thought we'd selected a woodsy site. But when we checked in, we were instructed to pull into a corralled area. It was super sunny - no shade or trees. The hosts were accommodating and allowed us to stay in a more cozy spot, but I would warn about this to future guests.
