3 nights at Beaverdam Falls

We loved staying at The Cattails! The site is more surrounded by woods than the others on the property which we especially liked, and it had a beautiful scenic view of the wetlands and the mountains behind it. We also loved hearing all of the surrounding wildlife throughout the day including many kinds of birds, geese, and frogs at night. The falls nearby were beautiful and the cave was really cool to peek into. The kayaks were a lot of fun too! At night we cooked over the fire under the many beautiful stars. The general location was great too as it wasn't far from multiple mountain hikes and less than two hours from breweries, Green Bank Observatory, and The Blue Ridge Tunnel. While it did rain a little bit during our stay, the tent was very sturdy and didn't leak. The grill came in handy for cooking that night since the interior was still dry. The site comes very well stocked with supplies. Beau was a great host, and we loved staying there so much we are talking about coming back again some time! I highly recommend this spot to anyone who loves being in nature and needs to disconnect from the everyday.

Staying at Ian's farm was a fun, relaxing experience! Ian was a really great, gracious host and we enjoyed getting to meet him and all the birds! We got a tour of the farm and got to hold and meet the birds after we arrived. We opted for the firewood challenge to see how much we could carry, which was a good time. The stargazer cabin is really well-built, cozy, and a nice, quiet getaway. We felt safe in the cabin even though there was a huge thunderstorm during our stay. The cabin's kitchen had everything you needed, the outdoor shower and composting toilet were comfortable to use, and the bed in the loft made for good sleep. The guinea fowl will keep you constant company, and they're so fun to watch and listen to! The beaches nearby are quiet and super quick to get to. Nearby Matthews also has a really good grocery store and small downtown for extra treats during the day or for picking up stuff to cook on the way to the cabin. We'd definitely visit again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get out to the country for a bit!

This is a phenomenal spot, right on the water. Keith is amazing to work with an sets up a great camp so all you gotta do is show up with food, drinks, and ice and enjoy your time. Hidden treasure here.

Treehouse was amazing. Ian works every day improving his sites. He thought of everything from wifi to Fairy lights. The grill is perfect for cooking anything you need. My daughter and I really enjoyed our time there and meeting all the animals. Snuggling with a baby goose might have been her favorite part of our trip!

Impressive luxury feel! Comfortable bedding, beautiful design, full house bathroom (separated by locked door from rest of home), and bus bathroom for #1. Electricity and running water in the bus, and a flipbook with the origin story of the bus, and restaurant recs including Hidden Wit Brewery where we enjoyed music bingo while the kids ran around a play yard with new friends. Our group loved the location! Adam was easy to communicate with and showed us to our campsite on arrival. The campground was close to Natural Bridge State Park and close enough to Blue Ridge Pkwy for other adventures. The campsite was spacious, quiet, and close to an outhouse. The bath house was attached to a recreation room with AC which was glorious for the afternoon heat. Even better, Elk Creek was just a short walk away, so we were able to cool off there too. We will definitely be staying here again for future camping adventures. This place is also dog friendly which was the cherry on top!

Best camping trip ever! Beautiful land with lots of privacy. The porta potty was very clean and the site was well maintained. Ian was very accommodating and he gave us an awesome tour of the fowl. Weekend Trip to Lovers Lane Farm Stay

Our daughter loves animals so we booked an evening at Fitrah Farm. Apryl and Mohammed are the most amazing hosts. We got a tour of their farm with huge variety of animals many of which roam freely around the farm. From goats, cows, chickens, geese, guinea fowl, quail, and two of the most giant and sweet livestock guard dogs you could ever meet! Their whole family works on the farm and it was great for my kids to see kids their age doing amazing animal husbandry. They will even let you help with the chores and milk the cows. My daughter already wants to go back for her birthday next year. It’s around 5 minutes from downtown Gordonsville so you have access to all the shops and restaurants there, but you would never know it. I cannot recommend this spot enough for folks that want a camping experience with kids. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore and easy access to campsites. I cannot recommend this place enough to folks who want an easy access camping experience with an amazing family and animals!!!!

John was really helpful and guided us to our site late at night after we got stuck in traffic on the way to his property. His land is really beautiful and had an awesome spot to sit and watch the sunset. Bed was comfy, cabin was clean. Close to Shenandoah NP and close to town. No complaints, we would return again.

Weekend Trip to #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp

Excellent location right on the river. The yurt was simple but had everything we needed. Bathrooms were clean and we saw them being cleaned regularly. Excellent spot, we will absolutely be back!

Loved it! Would def go back! Spacious, private, well maintained sites with plenty of space between. Clean bathrooms with hot showers (a luxury after we swam in a nearby swimming hole!). From our site, we could see the bathhouse and the door to the ping pong room- which was awesome and helped our kids stayed in view with a little freedom. Adam was super responsive before and during our stay. Great host. You might want ear plugs JIC. A pack of dogs or coyotes was loud in the distance our 1st night, but quiet the other two. The artist village had an open house when we were there- so many talented people and beautiful works. We had 2 families, and there were spots for both tents (and technically a 3rd if we'd needed it).

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

Beaverdam falls was the best for a spring weekend getaway! Beautiful property, the sites are spread out enough for privacy, and Beau has the best set up for all the little things you could need. We stayed in Sweet Springs canvas tent and it was wonderful. The tent comes with cooking supplies, a grill, a heater, and some comfy chairs on the deck. Our dogs had the best time there too swimming by the waterfall. We’d love to come back!

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

The Guinea farm is 18 acres of feild and forest on the rural middle pennensula. Only 1 mile from 2 separate secluded beaches and a boat launch. There is verly little traffic or light polution here, nature is at your fingertips. Come visit the farm and experience agrotourism at it's finest. Pick your own veggies in the community garden and meet the Guinea fowl! Enjoy the windernes and learn about the local ecosystem here on the middle pennensula. There are 3 sites spaced out across the 18 acres set apart for privacy. Wisteria is a primative site closer to the entrance gate. Trilogy is a suspended tree tent in the pines 700' beyond that and seperated by dense forest. Stargazer Tiny cabin is an offgrid rustic camping cabin on the back side of the property. Each site is surronded by several acres of forest and close to the edge of a large feild. There are romaing guinea fowl that may come make a very loud appearance as they canvas the property eating bugs. Deer, Turkeys, Bald Eagles, foxes, and other wildlife are common guests also. Mid-summer is what I call frog season, Tree frogs are abundant and provide a wonderful soundtrack. There are free to use bicycles, an axe throwing board, and cornhole boards available. 4 miles from shopping and dining in Mathews Virginia, 15 miles to Gwynn Island. Gwynn's Island is an island located in the Chesapeake Bay off of Virginia's Middle Peninsula. The island is located in the northeast part of Mathews County, south of the mouth of the Piankatank River. It is connected to the rest of the county by a swing bridge over Milford Haven.

Here, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas, watch the spectacular sunsets, chase fireflies, make a campfire, search for the Milky Way, and then sleep easy in your own queen-sized bed on this historic property. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville are within 30 minutes. It’s just an hour to Richmond or Harrisonburg and less than two to Washington, DC, or 3 to We are very COVID-conscious!
