Weekend Trip to Southern Revere Vineyard & Farm

Our group loved staying at Archer’s Den at Southern Revere Cellars. We really enjoyed the fact that our spot was hidden away from guests at the tasting barn, but if we wanted to the barn was an easy walk away to try the wine and beer. The fire pit they provide is a really nice touch and communication with the host was easy and timely. The only recommendation we have is to bring in bigger signage for each campsite. We totally missed the small sign/arrow for our campsite so we had to ask the host for the location. Overall great time and we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Southern Revere Vineyard & Farm

Had a great time camping at Southern Revere! The site is relatively private and you are tucked away from other campers. You can hear events at the winery, but it's not too loud and they aren't open super late. Host is very kind and responsive. Portapotties are a short walk away, and it was great to be able to visit the tap room and wander back to camp after. Will come again!

Loved the private camp site. You won't get that type of privacy at a typical campground. The grounds are very nicely maintained with many walking trails. The ground at the harvest hill site was very level and perfect for our pop-up. Nearby spot-o-pot was handy. Also great to be able to walk to brew/wine/food/music at the tasting room. Enjoyed both the beer and wine. Highly recommend.

My friend and I stayed at the "Hillside lakefront near Beach" campsite. I liked the site because it was very private. The site sits behind the goat and chicken farm, so be preppared for them to roam around your site. They generally didn't bother us, however the roosters did wake us up at the crack of dawn, as they're known for. The site was spacious, had a table and fire pit, beautiful lake views, and was a short walk from the kayaks. The site was a 30 minute drive from Pleasant Grove Park, which had miles of easy, scenic hiking trails. Charles and Steven were very responsive and explained to us where our site was, where to find additional firewood, the kayaks, the porta-potty, dumpster, and the general layout of the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our campsite. We had site #2, a little peninsula that juts out into the lake. There were several spots that we could have pitched our tent, but we decided to pitch it right on the peninsula, surrounded on 3 sides by water. If you want more of a windbreak, you can camp closer to the firepit. The campsite was nice and cleared, surrounded by large trees, and had a nice picnic table. We didn’t end up using any of the provided boats but did use the porta potty, which was very clean. There is a big dumpster on site to dump your trash. Would highly recommend this place. Not totally secluded (we could still hear our neighbor’s music and talking in the distance, but also not crowded at all. It’s a nice in between. Glad we had a 4-wheel drive truck, so just take it slowly on the road that runs the perimeter of the lake to your spot. Our host was very responsive.

I really liked our spot on the hill. The light pollution was very low allowing for a great view of the night sky. In addition, the area has 5G so star gazing apps work well. I enjoyed the beer and red wine offered at the tasting room and the band that played was nice as well. You can buy food to feed the goats at the tasting room.

We had a great weekend at the Southern Revere Winery & Brewery. We stayed at Hearth Hill with an incredible view of the night sky. There was a portajohn just a few steps from our site which was used by us and the campers at the other 2 sites. All campsites were very private. The property has a fenced dog park, a playground, live music on Saturdays, and 3 adorable goats! The folks in the tasting barn were friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was the food truck cuisine. Bring your own picnic basket since the food truck options on both Saturday and Sunday offered limited choices and overpriced small portions. There are lots of trails throughout the property. Blue jays, cardinals, and lots of other birds enjoyed the berries on the Eastern Red Cedar trees. We saw no other wildlife which surprised us. We thought we'd see squirrels, chipmunks, deer, foxes, and rabbits, but did not see or hear any of these animals. We highly recommend this hipcamp! It was easy to find, easy to access our campsite, and simple in and out. We enjoyed campfires both nights with the firewood we purchased as an extra. It was stacked near our firepit when we arrived.

when it comes to camping with kids i try to find places that can entertain them the whole time and this site met the expectations! the farm was so cute and lovely, the kids loved being able to play on the playground and were obsessed with all the animals which were all super friendly (especially the cats). the site feels far away from everything, but a grocery store is less than 10 min away. the hosts and her children were all very friendly and helpful. Apryl was attentive to any of our needs we really enjoyed our stay. i definitely recommend this site for children/ families!

What a beautiful spot. We were lucky that our site was close to the access road, some of the sites are better accessed by cars with more ground clearance. Charles showed us two spots to get water and directed us to the Portopotty. The site was clean and had a firepit as well as a picnic table. The views of the water were beautiful. Loud site neighbors were our only downside, but that’s not a permanent feature! We hope to come back next year.

As the description says, site 3 has a lovely western view, great for watching sunset over the horse pastures. The hosts are friendly, and it was nice to have a shower with hot water. The bathroom is a bit of a walk from the sites--or at least, sites 3-6--but it's not terrible. The donkeys and horses were fun to watch!

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property. The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately. Campsite W ~ Tent footprints: 1) 10' x 12' 2) 10' x 13' 3) 9' x 10' Campsite E ~ Tent footprints: 1) 15'x16' 2) 10' x 15' 3) 9' x 10' **Pricing is based on groups of up to four adults or two adults with children. For groups of five to seven adults there is an additional charge of $10 person per day. For groups of eight or more we suggest you reserve both sites and have the entire camp to yourselves. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall! Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants! In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future. Follow the drive down to the river front campsites.. This is due to a yearly Festival held in Scottsville where Historic river . Smallmouth and catfish are biting. Go by a local store and buy night crawlers,worms and a pack of 2/0 hooks and you will catch something . Firewood available per request and delivered for$30.00 a load. Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs. When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting. Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river. Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer. Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish. This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond. Come, enjoy and make some memories! Children 10 and under are free On the other side of the river you might hear a train passing by at different times, both, day and night. Safety Notice: Not accessible by boat, canoe, or kayak when the James River level is 6 feet or higher at Scottsville. At 7.5 - 8 feet, there is not much beach to play on and the river is too dangerous to navigate. You can drive in and camp, but please stay clear of all water activities, including fishing, in these dangerous conditions.

Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic. There so much more within 30 to 45 minutes of this camping area I can’t list it all. I promise you will Enjoy your stay!

Two words for Bear Creek Lake State Park: bomb diggity. Traverse the 40-acre lake by non-motorized boat where fishing opportunities abound. Don't have a canoe or kayak? No problem. Rental opportunities make getting one easy. After you're done frolicking on the beaches, grab a bite at the lakeside diner, which offers all kinds of tasty sandwiches and snacks. With a 10-lane archery range and 3D targets, you'll be able to hone your bow and arrow skills only a hop, skip, and jump away from your campsite. Hunters need only go to the neighboring Cumberland State Forest to catch some game, which isn't too far away. Leave the bikes and horses at home though, as the trails here are intended for hiking boots only unless you obtain a permit first.

Bear Creek Lake Campground

This campground is in a wilderness area with virtually no sounds from surrounding population centers - if you like quiet go here in the off season. Also, the cabins are well built with fully equipped kitchens and large covered porches - some with beautiful views of the lake. If you're up for a nice long walk, an easy to moderate 2-3 mile hike takes you all the way around the lake. There's a sandy beach with a snack bar that's open in the summer months.
