Crooked Mountain is a family and Veteran-owned farm, campground, camp store, and small event venue located just ½ mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Marker 159 near Floyd, Virginia.
We designed Crooked Mountain to be a unique basecamp for travelers exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially those traveling by van, car, motorcycle, bicycle, or with small RVs. With easy access from the Parkway and scenic mountain roads nearby, it’s a great stop for road trippers, vanlifers, and anyone on two wheels exploring Southwest Virginia.
The campground currently offers 15 campsites across the farm:
• 7 sites on Pine Creek (Sites 1 & 12 have electric)
• 5 field campsites with open views of the surrounding hills
• 3 field sites with electric near the pond (Sites 13–15)
Electric sites provide 30/20 amp power only. There are no water or sewer hookups at campsites.
Guests can enjoy the natural setting of the property and access our hiking trail, fishing pond (catch n release for a fee) and other amenities on the farm while staying here.
Our camp store offers tourism information about Floyd and the surrounding area (including local motorcycle/bicycle maps and routes, along with artisan goods, camping essentials (things you may have forgotten), snacks, drinks, coffee, ice, firewood and more.
During the summer months we also open our fields for a You-Pick flower experience, where guests can purchase a container and create their own bouquet. Flower season typically runs July through September.
Crooked Mountain is located along The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, and the town of Floyd is just 4 miles away, offering live music, local restaurants, breweries, galleries, and the famous Friday Night Jamboree at the Floyd Country Store.

We offer primitive camping (tents) along Reed Creek in Wythe County, Virginia. Although we are a primitive campground, we do offer amenities to make your stay comfortable, including portable toilets and trash collection. Want to see 5 star panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains? This ultra-safe, ultra-private property is located only 10 minutes off interstate 77. There is only one farm past ours so road traffic is very minimal. Plenty of room to do what you and your pets want to do while exploring our 60 acres. The sun rises up behind the view and lets you see just a little further. It is nothing short of amazing. The sunrises are always different and some are the most beautiful you have ever seen. The mornings sunrise and the stars out here on a clear night are two of the best things this mountain has to offer. It will not disappoint. We can accommodate up to a 35ft RV. The best part is no long walks, you can park at the campsites and camp on flat ground. Each campsite features chairs, a bench, a swing and a camp cooktop that is fueled by your campfire. Nothing is needed to use the cook tops other than a campfire. The local area has lots to do. Several National Parks, rivers and trails. View stars as only those miles away from any light can experience. The crickets and whippoorwills will sing you to sleep. Google link, trail map, and campsite location map will be emailed the day before arrival. The onsite Porta John is cleaned on the 15th every month.

Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.
DIRECTIONS:
Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line.
Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well
When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit.
About the property
20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.
Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.
This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person.
I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.
About the listing
Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite.

174 Acres of forested land in the Draper, Virginia area, very convenient to both I-81 (2-1/2 miles south of) and I-77 (10 miles east of) with scattered clearings connected by over 2 miles of cleared roads throughout the property, which are perfect for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The property includes a very small creek, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional turkey, black bear, coyotes and Bigfoot. The thing people seem to enjoy most is the privacy and and quiet that allows you to connect with nature. Each of the 3 sites is hundreds of yards apart. Note: there is no bathroom on the premises, however you can book a toilet tent as an extra. 4 Wheel Drive or All wheel drive are helpful during the winter months, or if there has been a lot of rain or snow/ice.
Things to watch out for are deer ticks and poison ivy. Campers are expected to leave the site neat and take all their trash with them.
We are located about 5 minutes from I-81 or 15 minutes from I-77 making it an easy place to stop when passing through on your way to other adventures. If you are coming on I-81 (North or South), use exit 89-A. Don't let Google maps take you to Frog Level Ct near the town of Pulaski (LOL). Nearby attractions include Appalachian Gem and Gold Mine on Route 100 (5 min), New River Trail State Park (10 min), Claytor Lake State Park (20 min) and the Town of Draper has a couple small town shops to explore including The Draper Mercantile and Trading Company and the newly opened Conery where you can get wonderful ice cream cones and more. Also, check out the Draper Mountain overlook on Rt 11, just 10 minutes from our HipCamp.
We love hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 sites but only allow 2 to be in use at a time on the property. This insures that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others and allows us to always have an alternate site available if campers want to change. Bring your dogs !
Available "Extras" include portable toilet setup, firewood, Woodshop class making a cutting board, Bigfoot sitings as well as various camping gear items and games. If there are other extra's you would like to see or something you forgot to bring please let us know and we will see what we can do.

Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail).
Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. Some of the property that this walk traverses does go through land that was logged. So, that section has lost a bit of its luster. That said, now you are able to look off in the distance to see the ridge that used to be hidden.
The property you will stay on is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying.
The property owner (my mom, who is in her mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives just down the road a smidge. She has graciously offered that we can rent this spot out and contribute the profits to her grandsons' college funds. While you may not see any of us at all, there is a chance you will meet some of the family (mom, myself, my husband or the boys), especially if you have any requests or hiccups.

Welcome to Starry Night New River Gorge of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. Starry Nights NRG is 88 acres of mountain top land in the heart of Southern WV with easy access to a lake, rivers, State Parks, and NRG National Park. Enjoy long range views to the East and West of the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains. See the sun rise and fall beyond the distant blue ridge lines as you await vast night skies free of light pollution. Watch the smoke rise from the forests creating clouds after a foggy morning or rain. Discover cliffs, caves, springs and more as you adventure the land. Hike the terrain with the East and West side of the property providing different experiences. All wildlife is in abundance and bird watchers rejoice, the forests and fields are alive. Enjoy the peace, still and quiet that comes with seclusion deep in the mountains.
There are currently three camping sites available. Each one comes with a picnic table, fire ring, trash can and an outhouse.
Cell phone and satellite service is excellent on the property. Benefits of being at the top.

Gittn' Pickled is back! Re-opening in August 2026 with upgrades.
Gittn' Pickled is located on VA620, a gravel road that doesn't see a lot of traffic. Trout Creek, a lively full year stream, is directly in front of the cabin and provides soothing sounds all day, and night.
Gittn' Pickled is .6 miles Trail East of the Appalachian Trail on VA620.
Appalachian Trail features Mcafees Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Audie Murphy Memorial, and Tinker Cliffs are just minutes away by motor vehicle. I've prepared a hiking guide to get you started. This is an awesome location to tackle the Triple Crown or just enjoy SW Virginia.
Pickles Branch terminates into Trout Creek here. Pickles Branch is a beautiful stream in a cool and richly forested terrain. All of the Miller Cove ground water empties into Pickle's Branch which can become very impressive during high water events.
Miller Cove, within the Jefferson National Forest, is an area that was once occupied by a small active community. You will find foundations of old structures, springs, creeks, orchards, mushrooms, ramps, wildlife, and much more. Miller Cove can be accessed, by foot, directly from the site. It can be an especially interesting and pleasant hike without the inconvenience of shuttles and parking.
Two bunkbeds are provided with four twin long (35x80) mattresses. These are new hospital bed mattresses with non-permeable covers. Four standard size pillows with non-permeable covers and pillowcases are also provided. You should bring additional bedding as desired; sheets, blankets, etc.

We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877.
The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923.

Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature.
The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb.
Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. In Short, it is lovely and we hope you enjoy it.

Rogue Trout Retreat is a brand new recreation destination, offering ~5 open acres of primitive camping and 700+ feet of private trout fishing that connects to the Crooked Creek Fee Fishing park and Wildlife Reserve. The creek is stocked with Rainbow Trout multiple times throughout the week between the months of April and October. Native and Brown Trout are also very commonly found in these waters.
The Wildlife Reserve "next door" offers opportunities for 5 miles of stocked trout fishing, 2 miles of wild trout fishing, 1800+ acres of hunting, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife watching. Nearby you'll find all you need in the way of food, supplies, gas, entertainment, sights, and more in the city of Galax, or town of Hillsville.
Don't forget to enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway, kayak the New River, bike the New River Trail, pick at the Fiddler's Convention, shop multiple boutiques, antique stores, flea and farmer's markets, and visit plenty more small town events that are sure to bring you back to visit Rogue Trout Retreat very soon!

What a wonderful place! From the warmest welcoming committee, Miss Roxy 🐾, to the beautiful fields of sunflowers, to the friendly accommodating hosts- we cannot rate this HipCamp highly enough. We stayed for FloydFest, which is an easy 15 minute drive away. The town of Floyd is close and the Floyd General Store is a must for breakfast or lunch. 15/10!

The land was absolutely beautiful, easy to find with Donna’s directions and completely private. Donna stopped by at the end of our stay and even let us take home some produce from her beautiful garden! This was the perfect spot for a first camping adventure and we will absolutely be back!

We brought our 21ft travel trailer and it was perfect. Having full hook ups was great. It rained but even then we still had a good time. You’re under an awning so it didn’t bother us. It’s very private and pet friendly. It was our second time and we just booked it again for October. Love this place highly recommended.

This was a fantastic Hipcamp stay. The little open-front cabin was rustic, simple, and full of character, but still had the conveniences of electricity and running cold water. There was also an outhouse and a cold-water shower, which made the site feel like a great balance between primitive camping and having the essentials available.
The property was peaceful, private, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The view overlooking the New River was especially picturesque and made the whole place feel like a quiet retreat. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the uniqueness of the cabin. It was exactly the kind of memorable, rustic camping experience we were hoping for, and we would gladly stay here again.

We really enjoyed staying at this site (#6). Excellent signage directing you to the camp. The scenery is beautiful overlooking the New River. Across the road, behind the site, is a lot of miscellaneous stuff that’s not so pretty to look at. The site is well equipped, with the utilities positioned on the wrong side, but that didn’t hinder us from being able to utilize everything properly in our 39 ft Super C. There is a house that sits up from the site that looks down on you, along with a large lighted cross. It was very quiet. A nice little getaway.

Such a peaceful getaway! Beau's property had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Swimming in the falls and then a quick walk to our stay was great. The cave was also a neat hike and each site has a grill and picnic table. I'd highly recommend and plan to return with my family.

We really enjoyed our stay! Having access to the creek was really nice. We had plenty of space and the location is also great. One downside is that there is not much privacy from the road. The road wasn’t super busy but if you are looking for privacy or to feel secluded you will not find that here. We had some luck fishing but I think it wouldn’t been better a different time of year and I felt that the water level was a little low. Thinking about reserving the whole retreat for a larger get together in the future. Would recommend!
