The area was super clean, exactly as advertised, and super convenient for our 2 days of hiking in The Forest of Nisene Marks and one day at Wilder Ranch State Park. We will definitely be back. Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Great spot on private land with gorgeous views! Very secluded even though you are just behind the host's house. Are kids were just old enough (3.5 and 5.5) but any younger would have a hard time staying out of the poison oak and away from the steep hills. Matt was very thoughtful with the amenities that make this spot so easy and comfortable - toilet, spigot, gas fire pit. It's a very peaceful spot bursting with nature that is soothing on both the eyes and ears. So easy to get into town and have a beach day, then come back to camp in the redwoods.

Weekend Trip to The Olive Farm

The camp site was great. Plenty of room for everyone to camp in tents and camp vans. Three of us stayed in the cabin. The camp is very clean and the sink and water hose are very convenient. There is a nice shady spot at the pond to sit. We saw lots of different wild life. I would recommend this site for a nice relaxing time. Just keep in mind that there is a short steep grade to get to the site, it is key to not slow down or stop to get up the grade.

I loved my stay at fern flats! I got the most amazing sleep, the birds provided beautiful music and it was absolutely quiet at night. I would definitely return. There was construction noise in the mornings though which Matt had zero control over. Hopefully the construction noise will be gone soon. The bottom line is that this place was great!

I liked Cynthia's land because it was right off the highway. I stayed during the week which was relatively quiet. I awoke and left early in the morning.

As advertised. Enjoyed my night- they had everything need to grill. Outdoor Shower was nice- the bathroom sink was at a drip at best. However, lots of other places to wash hands as needed.

1 night at #2 HMB Highway Overnight Rest Stop

Good spot, very convenient to Half Moon Bay area. The location was easy to find and very clean. As advertised there is road noise but it was not unexpected. Plenty of birds singing and roosters crowing to enjoy listening to. Porta Potty was clean and well stocked. We initially pulled in about 2:30 and lounged for a bit, enjoying the empty site before heading to the beach and then dinner and some music in HMB. We made it back to camp about 10:00 and 2 other vehicles were there with tents set up, plenty of room for all of us. Our neighbors left bright and early, a very quiet departure. We prepared coffee and breakfast as we soaked up the sunshine. The wild flowers were bountiful as a red tailed hawk glided above us. Overall it was a great stop along Hwy 1 and we look forward to visiting again.

Loved our experience and will definitely return! Beautiful farm with sheep and chickens (and fresh eggs of course!) and the amenities (sinks, shower, etc.) made it so easy and relaxing.

2 nights at Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

This is the perfect spot if you want all the nature without the people. It’s very private and there’s a small trail to follow in case you want to explore. It’s big enough for two people in one tent to camp comfortably. Otherwise, you could maybe fit one more person. The host is incredibly friendly and helpful.

2 nights at Pharo Pharms Organic Farm-

Bucolic vineyard setting. Plenty of room for 23-ft travel trailer. Near enough to town. Nice little winery (Homewood )right down the road is worth a visit. Our cats enjoyed the site.

Loved this campsite, super easy to get to and in a lovely location, we stopped on a passing visit but would have happily stayed for a few more days. Great facilities, would highly recommend.

1 night at Hidden Spring Ranch

although I read the information for Patricia‘s place and the welcome packet noting that there were other properties and people on the property, I didn’t quite understand how many folks to expect on site until Patricia came out to meet me. Yes, there are other folks who live on site, as well as visitors who are booked for their other sites, and they all sure the outdoor kitchen, outhouse, and communal facilities. I felt more at ease when Patricia explained that to me, as I was traveling solo for this stay. I was a previous review had said, neighbors are pretty close to site one, and I ended up moving to site two instead—which I did like more because of space, the fire pit, and the little hut with string lights and a charging outlet inside. I did request a firewood, bundle and use it in the fire pit in site two. I had a little room in the fridge to store leftovers, and I didn’t stay long enough to walk around the property and use the tub but I did enjoy my camping experience here a lot. You can hear cars from the site, but I slept like a baby. I did wake up with the animals, a little after dawn and around sunrise. I’m an early riser so that didn’t bother me, but for those that like to sleep in then maybe some earplugs might help. Also, the location is close to town driving-wise and I appreciate all of the recommendations in the welcome packet. I’d be down to stay here again!

Our family had a fabulous stay at the Olive Camp! The location was stellar - close to civilization but felt very remote! The camp was roomy, clean, quiet and private. The pond, potable water and sink were bonuses! Sam, the host, was communicative and accommodating. Will stay again and highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Silicon Valley View

We loved being at the top of the mountain, and the views of the valley were incredible. Site #1 had the most amazing view. No view from Site #2 but it was a very private camp site in the woods. We saw lots of birds. We appreciated the water spigot, the trash can and picnic table to make camping a bit easier. We drove the dirt roads from both sides to access the camping and the driving is very rough, not impassible, just slow going for our Subaru.

I loved the spot. The directions are so spot on! The road is bumpy but worth it. Just take it slow and enjoy because it’s gorgeous! The spot is spacious and well maintained. We found the bathroom to be clean and easy to navigate. You can hear folks from other spots but not see them. It is absolutely beautiful. Definitely bring bug spray!

There is not cooking allowed by or at any of the common areas, due to flies and critters. Cooking and eating is only allowed by your sites and not in any common areas: Hammocks, Trampolines, Pool Area, tables, sink, and deck please follow this rule because we want to prevent our shared areas to be fly and bug infested. We are still working on ridding the flies and cleaning. (please try to bring prepackaged food or something easy. If anything you can drive 10 minutes to nearby food and grocery). In the past we let people cook and eat around the pool but now our whole property is fly infested and I find scattered leftovers on the ground. Thanks for understanding. The cabin has spectacular views of forest, sky, ocean and the Butano ridgeline. It's a short hike to 8000+ acres of county parkland where you can hike, bike and ride horses (though please note, there are no facilities for horse boarding at the cabin.) The cabin is located at Alpine Ranch, a property adjacent to Sam McDonald County Park that was protected by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). Whether you are looking for an active experience or just want to relax in a peaceful, remote setting, there's something here for everyone. This is a rustic hike-in cabin designed for a introductory pack-in experience. Bedding is not provided. It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource. *A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Occasionally, we have last-minute public weekend reservation availability due to cancellations. The cabin is reservable up to 3 months in advance, on a rolling basis. Love the idea of a hike-in cabin, but unable to visit us Sunday-Thursday? Check out the nearby Sierra Club Hiker's Hut in Sam McDonald County Park. Property History: At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people. Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout. The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.
