Double Bear is a rugged three yurt glamping escape in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a secluded setting on a 1.5 mile mountain dirt road among towering redwoods with sweeping views, just 30 minutes from Silicon Valley. Our camp features three sleeping yurts, a spacious shared kitchen yurt, and a bathhouse, all thoughtfully placed to let the landscape take center stage. The yurts, up to 30 feet in diameter, offer a unique sense of space and comfort in a natural setting. Soak in the hot tub beneath the trees, enjoy dinner on the pavilion terrace, gather around the fire, or wander the woods at your own pace.
Privacy
Up the hill sits a separate art house that is occasionally rented, while the owner lives about 10 minutes down the road and is available if needed. You also have the option to book the entire camp, three yurts with 16 plus beds, along with the kitchen yurt and bathhouse, for your group.

Located an hour drive from the bay area, Camp Cruz is a year-round glamping retreat in the redwoods ideal for people who want a private outdoor getaway in the forest without giving up basic living comforts. It's a perfect destination to unwind, recharge, and create special memories in nature. We are also only 30 minutes from Monterey/Santa Cruz for guests who want to enjoy the beaches and coastal cities. We offer guests 2 private bedrooms: the Raven’s Nest (an aircrete dome) and the Owl’s Nest (a yurt). Larger groups are welcome, and should bring camping gear such as tents and sleeping bags for extra people. We have plenty of great camping spots!
There is a fully equipped kitchen with stove, fridge, barbecue grill, electric coffee maker, tables and chairs, and more. The kitchen also has a ping pong table. There is a large geodome furnished as a game room with couches, a lounge area, pool table, foosball table, a bluetooth speaker, games, and music equipment. There are clean composting toilets, hot showers, a wood-burning fire pit, heaters for the cold, a hammock bungalow, a meditation pagoda, a deck overlooking a creek, and disc golf baskets. Guests are responsible for bringing their own firewood or may purchase firewood from us under "EXTRAS". With a fair balance of sunlight and shade, we have a garden and lots of open space to spread out and relax. Free wifi is available. We run a nonprofit outdoor education camp for underprivileged youth, so your stay supports our work to get youth outdoors.
Winter lodging....
It can get seasonably cold in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the winter. If visiting in the winter, rest assured we have everything covered to enjoy your stay. We have propane heaters for warmth and comfort. If the power goes out, we have a standby generator that will power up camp provided we are home to turn it on. We have woodstoves in the Owl's Nest and Eagle's Nest. We provide fire starters for the woodstoves; guests are responsible for bringing firewood to keep the woodstoves going or purcchasing it from us under "EXTRAS".

Both our treehouse and yurt listings are unique experiences. They both are adjacent to the Tierra Madre Vineyard Block and have awesome views of the entire Monterey Bay/Pacific Ocean. We are located on 44 acres high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains but close to all the major beaches and Silicon Valley. Please be aware this is camping in nature, along with squirrels, spiders, falling leaves, etc. and nature is not always for everyone. There is a 45ft. ladder to climb to get into the treehouse. The view at sunset is spectacular.

We acquired the property in 1991, shortly after the Lexington Fire (1985) and Loma Prieta earthquake (1989). At that time, the entire property has degenerated into disrepair, and all the vineyards had been overwhelmed by the wilderness.
In 2011, we started the herculean effort of clearing away the wilderness, resurrecting all the vineyards and renovating our home. In 2014, we started replanting the vineyards, and opened our tree house to visitors in 2015.

This was my and my husband's first time trying hipcamp I have to say this was a wonderful first experience, we really loved the Yurt and how incredibly peaceful the location is. We were only able to stay for one night but the loved the setup of the yurt, everything is so thoughtful and cozy and the quiet is exactly the relaxing getaway we needed. We had a wonderful stay at Double Bear with our two children and couldn't have asked for a better family camping experience. The host has designed the property very thoughtfully, with everything laid out to make guests feel comfortable and welcome.
The campsite is perfect for families. There was plenty of space for the kids to explore, relax, and enjoy nature, while the shared areas made it easy to connect with other campers. We actually ended up making new friends with another family during our stay, which made the experience even more memorable.
The amenities were well maintained, and it was clear that a lot of care has gone into creating a fun, peaceful, and inviting place. Whether you're bringing a group of friends or looking for a family getaway, this is a fantastic spot.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and family-friendly camping experience!

Weekend Trip to Camp Cruz Glamping Retreat
Camp Cruz was the perfect place for my husband and my anniversary. We’ve always been campers and now that the kids are grown it’s fun to go by ourselves. We loved the meditation area. We brought our yoga mats, played some pool, watched a movie, hiked and picnicked at Nisene Marks. The cooking area was perfect. We even used the bbq. Great stay!

We were fortunate to reserve all of Double Bear’s yurts for the weekend. The drive there was a bit of an adventure, as the last mile is mostly a dirt and gravel road. Personally, I found it fun and added to the experience.
Once you arrive at Double Bear, you're in for a treat. The yurts are clean, spacious, and cozy. There's plenty of firewood to keep you warm inside the yurts and for the communal fire pit, which we had all to ourselves.
The kitchen and dining area is huge and fully stocked with bottled water and just about everything you could need.
The bathrooms and showers are stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. It really isn't much different from some of the higher-end glamping sites.
One thing we really appreciated was the reliable Starlink Wi-Fi, which was available throughout the property. It was a nice bonus to have fast internet access while still enjoying the peaceful mountain setting.
There's also a hot tub that comfortably fits more than six people and offers a beautiful view of the mountains.
Most importantly, Mathilda, our host, was outstanding. Her communication was excellent from start to finish. She even stopped by the next day to make sure we were doing well and to see if we needed more coffee or anything else.
We can't wait to come back and spend more time at Double Bear!

Highly recommend a stay at this beautiful yurt. It’s so peaceful and we enjoyed walking the property looking for banana slugs. Really enjoyed using the kitchen which was fully stocked and the hot shower was amazing as well. This yurt is located within 20-45 min to many beaches, state parks, and restaurants! Bridgette and Curtis are kind and welcoming too!

Our stay at Mathilda’s campsite was truly a magical and memorable experience. The yurt was so cozy and thoughtfully set up, giving us the perfect opportunity to enjoy the feeling of camping while still having all the comforts that made our stay relaxing and enjoyable.
The property itself is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by marvelous nature that brings a sense of peace and tranquility. We loved waking up to the sights and sounds of the natural surroundings, and every corner of the campsite reflected the care and attention that has gone into creating such a special place. We had such a wonderful stay at Double Bear. The property is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, comfortable, and impeccably clean. Every detail felt thoughtfully considered, making it easy to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Matilda was an incredibly kind and welcoming host, and her care for the property truly shows.
During our stay, we shared the camp with another family, and one thing we especially appreciated was the balance between privacy and community. Our yurt felt private and tucked away, while the shared spaces created opportunities for connection and a warm, communal atmosphere.
Our kids had an amazing time. My partner and I loved camp Double Bear! We were lucky to have the site to ourselves, so we had a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing anniversary weekend. We especially loved the wood stoves and fireplace, they added extra coziness. The bathrooms and showers were very clean, and the kitchen was awesome. We were able to store food and make our meals easily. Any questions we had were quickly answered by Mathilda, the host. We’re definitely looking forward to coming back with more friends/family.

We had a wonderful stay at this yurt! Check-in was easy, and Bridgette and Curtis warmly welcomed us and showed us around when we arrived.
The yurt was quiet, peaceful, and had everything we needed—a comfy bed, hot shower, stovetop, mini fridge, microwave, and even fresh lemons from their tree. My husband and I were able to reconnect with nature and enjoy some much-needed time together.
There was no Wi-Fi, but we could get a bar of service to check in with our babysitter and kids. Honestly, it felt great to unplug and disconnect for 24 hours.
Bridgette and Curtis were kind hosts who gave us plenty of privacy after check-in. This is a great glamping spot, and we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!
