The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. I have deer that sleep in my front yard, opossums, 600 bird species, and my favorite… the armadillos! We offer Kayaking on the property for a fee. We have a beautiful Hammock Garden free for guests to kick back and relax. Texoma Water Taxi is a text away to give guests a ride anywhere on the lake including restaurants. Rock-N A Ranch is roughly 20 minutes away and offers horseback riding. The Cabins and Campsites are within walking distance from each other but far enough away to create that illusion of privacy. We do have a neighborhood close by but you can’t see or hear them due to the woods.  In my travels, I try to bring back something I’ve seen or learned to help improve the guest experience and environment. You’ll notice little touches of Asia, Mexico, and even Hill Country Texas! We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and treat every guest like family. We’re always a text away! Rock-N A Ranch is roughly 20 minutes away and offers horseback riding. The Cabins and Campsites are within walking distance from each other but far enough away to create that illusion of privacy. We do have a neighborhood close by but you can’t see or hear them due to the woods.  In my travels, I try to bring back something I’ve seen or learned to help improve the guest experience and environment. I absolutely loved this camper! Private location, very well stocked, and the little deck with the comfy furniture was perfect first thing in the morning. I have watched deer while sipping coffee, lazed on the couch under the umbrella enjoying a nice breeze, and cooled my feet in the river in the late morning. It was the relaxation I needed with just the right amount of space. Alright TLDR is over so here is the breakdown. Pros: ~VERY WELL STOCKED for the most part (dishes, tea pots, towels, washcloths, even a outside sink for room to wash dishes, ect.) ~ gas stove (just remember to turn it on) ~ fantastic distance from the river ~ beautiful views (especially nighttime for stargazing) ~ Comfy furniture! Legit wanted to nap outside in good breeze. ~ Privacy! I could only see one cabin unless I went to the main camp grounds. ~ Public area's are also well stocked and taken care of Cons: ~Only one pot to cook on. There was a griddle as well but I didn't test it. Absolutely would have grilled outside if there wasn't a burn ban. ~ The path to the restrooms wasn't well lit but you're out in nature get a headlamp. ~ One of the showers uses the hooked latch that kept slipping if the door was bumped. There was twine to help hold it in place but please someone get that fixed with a more secure latch.

I stayed over the weekend with a friend (M27, M32) TTOTB was a fantastic vibe- home comforts in a desert setting. The host, Mike- went out of his way to make sure we had a great time both at camp as well as some great bars in the nearby town. Amazing stars at night, and most weeks there is usually something going on for those who like a social vibe. We stayed in the container, no complaints at all. Will be coming back one day!

This was mine and my husband’s second time visiting the Seco Ridge Campgrounds. This year we stayed in the Bunkhaus. Our best friend and my cousin also joined us for the adventure. The Bunkhaus is nothing short of incredible. It’s more of a tiny home with an awesome patio area with fun lighting, games, and luxury lounging. A HUGE storm came in while we were there and the Haus had no leaks, nothing like that- it is a true experience. The interior is gorgeous with drywall and recess lighting. The bed was incredibly comfy. Owners Woody and Elaine were so very accommodating and kind. They got us fresh firewood and even fresh eggs from the ground’s chickens! In the Haus, there’s a microwave and large mini fridge for snacks and the grounds have a communal fire pit, swings, outdoor kitchen, running water, hot showers and toilets- I have to wear orthodics temporarily which makes it difficult for me to walk and Woody and Elaine set up a chemical toilet right outside the door of the Haus for me. INCREDIBLY accommodating. The Seco Ridge campground itself is the only place I have ever seen the Milky Way with the naked eye. I do astronomy photography and I was able to take some incredible photos. My family and I sang karaoke outside up to quiet hours time at 11, and had an overall BLAST! The Haus is air conditioned, heated, and has just the quaintest and most fun ambiance. It is a pleasure every year and we can’t wait to come back again soon! Weekend Trip to Sparrow Bend River Retreat
We had such a lovely stay! The campsite had everything we needed — cookware, fridge, clean showers and bathrooms, and beautiful views all around. We arrived late at night during a storm, so a small light or sign would’ve made finding our way easier, and a wagon for our gear was not available as mentioned. Not taking any points off though — it’s a great, family and dog-friendly spot, and we can’t wait to come back for a longer stay with our dog next time!

We absolutely loved the dome! It was so private and serene. Beautiful views of the sunset in the evening and deer passing by in the morning. The dome itself was clean, well designed, and well appointed (down to the airfryer and adjustable desk with a monitor!). The bed was really comfortable with no shortage of linens and the A/C was nice an powerful! It was a very short drive from Llano, close to Enchanted Rock, and just far enough from Austin to feel like a true getaway. Hands-down an amazing experience!

We had a nonstop wonderful stay at Mike’s “Temple of the Bird”. We were there as part of the Terlingua Music Bash so there were lots of people around but the communal kitchen and bathrooms stayed clean and well supplied. The bathrooms are also incredibly beautiful with large stone showers and plenty of entertaining signs in the stalls. The multiple common areas are versatile and accommodating. Every space on the property has been lovingly “accessorized”. Willy and the bird rule.. We stayed in a container room. It far exceeded our expectations. It was very well put together and we could see the sunrise over the mountains from our windows. The bed was comfortable and the room was surprisingly spacious. The AC worked! All of this in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Five stars for Mike!

This campground deserves all five stars, offering the perfect blend of top-notch facilities and genuinely fantastic service. Staff Goes Above and Beyond The single most standout element of our trip was the incredibly helpful and welcoming staff. From check-in to check-out, every interaction was friendly, professional, and attentive. Whether we needed local recommendations or help troubleshooting a minor setup issue, they were quick to assist and truly made us feel like valued guests. Their dedication to ensuring everyone has a great time is clear. The Awesome New Dock The newly constructed dock is a major upgrade and easily the highlight of the facilities. It's spacious, well-maintained, and makes water access so easy. Whether you're using it for fishing, launching a small boat, or just relaxing and watching the sunset over the water, it is a truly beautiful and functional addition to the camp. Truly Pet-Friendly For dog owners, this is the place to be! The campground allows dogs and the atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming to pets. It made a huge difference being able to bring our furry family member along, and we saw plenty of other happy campers enjoying the pet-friendly environment. Amazing. That’s what you need to know about The Charmadillo. I’ve stayed in AirBnBs, state parks, RV parks, and primitive camping sites. This really does give you the best of all worlds. If you’re looking for a Texas Hill Country escape, and want to connect with nature, while combatting the TX heat with a/c to sleep in, and a good, clean shower, this is it. The property is fantastic. Perfectly nestled into a hillside, you get great views, space to hike and explore, and a true feeling of being in nature. The common areas are kept immaculately clean, especially with how off grid it feels. The decor and touches of comfort are tasteful and feel organic. Everything feels like it’s there to enhance your experience, not just look good in a picture. Sarah, the host, is a great communicator and seems to really value her guests’ experience. The location is easy to access, and it’s a short drive to Bandera or Kerrville, and a great home base for exploring the Hill Country. I hadn’t touched Hipcamp in years after my previous experience, but Sarah is doing hospitality the right way. *this probably reads like a paid review, or ‘friends & family’, but I assure it’s not. I just really enjoyed this place.

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.
