Our homestead is a few acres in East Texas, near Hawkins. The land has been untouched for about 30 years, maybe last used for cattle grazing. We're keeping the property as natural as possible, we live here off-grid and off-pipe. There’s a 17 acre lake that we share with neighbors. It’s full of bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish, we encourage catch and keep fishing since the lake could use a little fishing pressure. We also have a beaver pond, and resident beaver. Some of the wildlife we see regularly: fireflies, turtles, cardinals, bluejays, hummingbirds, kite birds, frogs, opossums, armadillos, beaver, river otter, road runners and rabbits. These plants live here too: Beautyberry, Dewberry, Pokeberry, Sparkleberry, Dogfennel, Dogwood, Yaupon Holly, Holly, Wax Myrtle, Sassafras , Lyreleaf Sage, Carolina Crane’s bill, Coral Honeysuckle, Western White Honeysuckle, Smooth Cat’s Ear, Daisy Fleabane, Prairie Onion, Mullein, Summer Grape, Water Lily. The entire water lily plant is edible, did you know? Swim, hang out, cool down on the small swimming dock. Canoe and kayak included! A remote, off-grid adobe dome, powered by solar power, and near Big Bend National Park, as seen on HGTV, and numerous other publications. Brand new to Hipcamp, but we've been fortunate to host over a thousand guests on other platforms. The Off Grid Dome shelter is accepting rental guests to share the off-grid experience, and to also help fund this project and future projects . The dome is a very remote and unique space in the desert near Big Bend National Park. The dome rests in an isolated but easily accessible off-grid setting in one of the few remaining territories under a dark sky ordinance, which offers unmatched views of the night sky, and a completely unobstructed view of a horizon that delivers truly majestic sunrises and sunsets. Though the dome is isolated, the entrance to Big Bend National Park is just a 25 minute drive and the historic Terlingua Ghost town about the same. The dome is an earthen structure, with a cob (adobe) barrier to provide shelter from the desert elements such as heat, cold, winds, and rain. The small but functional dome kitchen provides a two burner propane stove and oven, as well as a refrigerator that is powered by solar power. In fact, all power to the dome comes directly from a modest solar energy system and will power phones, laptops, and lights, but not much more (no hair dryers for instance). The kitchen sink pumps water from a small rain collection cistern and thus I ask guests to be very strategic with water use. Guests are recommended to bring one's own drinking water, although backup bottled water is provided onsite as a backup at cost. The Dome bed sleeps two comfortably. Linens, pillows, and a blanket (and a duvet in colder months are provided for the main bed. The pallet couch does sleep a third person quite comfortably, but guests must bring their own linens or sleeping bag (and pillow) for a third guest. In hotter months, a fan is provided, and the nature of the thick adobe provides a buffer against the Summer temps (with limitations). The wrap around windows provides a good cross breeze and fresh air when needed. In cooler months, a small propane heater is provided for a little extra boost, as well as clean linens and a duvet cover. The dome and linens will not be cleaned during your stay. There is no flush toilet, and so you must be comfortable using a composting toilet that is in a separate, and private outhouse next to the dome. There is no shower on site, but I can give you recommendations for $2 coin showers in town. Or you can try an outdoor solar bag shower on the property. There is wifi on site. The property is very accessible by road, with only the last mile being on a gravel road in good condition. Read house rules to learn about amenities. SUMMERTIME DISCLAIMER (June through September): The Summer can get hot here in the desert and while the adobe dome gives a good buffer against the outside elements, there is no AC in the dome, just a fan. There are also perimeter windows to entice a night breeze. Also, bugs and other desert creatures tend to culminate in the Summer months. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a scorpion or black widow spider and don’t be frightened either as they are relatively harmless and non-threatening. I do have the dome on a somewhat forgiving 5 night out cancelation policy during off-peak periods and so if the 10 day forecast looks too scary for you, you can cancel without penalty. Many say that Summer is their favorite time of the year out here. But it all depends on one's heat tolerance. There, you will have access to a BBQ pit, an outdoor pavilion, pool, hot tub, and pool house. If you’d like to have some fun, games like corn hole, oversized connect-four, chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe, hop-scotch, water volleyball, and horseshoes for you to enjoy. When you stay in one of our inflatable bubbles on the farm with an enormous pool, not only do you get to experience something new and exciting, you also have access to so many fun things to do! The coolest part? The top is transparent, so you can fall asleep wishing on a star. This inflatable bubble is anchored to a sturdy wooden deck and inflated with an air blower. There is a retractable awning that covers each bubble reducing the green-house effect during the daytime and can be opened to reveal the beautiful skyline during the day or the wonderous starlit sky at night. Inside you’ll find a cozy king bed that can comfortably sleep up to three guests (2 adults and 1 child). There is air conditioning and heating inside as well as a full private bathroom. The bathroom even has a clawfoot tub! Toiletries are provided for you during your stay. The bubble is located in Sam Houston National Forest on a beautiful ranchette of almost 8 acres. On the ranchette you’ll be able to see chickens, turkeys (seasonal), goats, pigs, rabbits, and a garden near the home as well as livestock grazing in the pastures. Wildlife is present in the forest, so there are some food restrictions inside the bubble to keep you safe. Weekend Trip to Domeland

I booked this stay to get away from day-to-day life and reconnect with nature, and it was everything I hoped for and more. The location is breathtaking — remote enough to feel alone under the endless Texas sky, yet close to both Big Bend National and State Parks. The dome is stunning and thoughtfully designed, and the property itself is beautiful. You can see the desert stretch out for miles, and even though there are a few neighbors, it still feels private and peaceful. Inside everything was clean and cozy, and I quickly became obsessed with the one-mile loop trail on the property, walking it multiple times because it was truly that lovely. The sunsets and sunrises were out of this world, not to mention the view of the stars. I cooked on the camp stove (there’s also a charcoal grill so bring charcoal if you’d like to use it) and loved the calm of being offline. The host was very communicative, and the instructions were clear. Just keep in mind it’s the desert: water is precious, so bring extra and use mindfully. The kitchen has the basics, but bringing your favorite gear is helpful. There’s WiFi inside the Dome but no cell service, so recommend downloading local maps before you go. If you want extra light it doesn’t hurt to bring some nice battery powered lights. It wasn’t an issue but would’ve been a nice touch. If you’re looking for peace, inspiration, and beauty that reminds you how vast the world is, this place is pure magic. ✨

We absolutely loved the dome! It was so private and serene. Beautiful views of the sunset in the evening and deer passing by in the morning. The dome itself was clean, well designed, and well appointed (down to the airfryer and adjustable desk with a monitor!). The bed was really comfortable with no shortage of linens and the A/C was nice an powerful! It was a very short drive from Llano, close to Enchanted Rock, and just far enough from Austin to feel like a true getaway. Hands-down an amazing experience!

We enjoyed the very unique experience at Jannett and Davis's property! It was surreal to sleep in an actual bubble. They had all the amenaties you come to expect, and we were remarkably comfortable. The pool, farm animals and other activities were also great! My only complaint is that the "approximate location" shown in the listing is almost a one-hour drive from the actual location, which you only find out after booking. This forced some changes to our schedule for the weekend and would have been nice to know up front. But we still would have stayed here, and I'm glad we did.

Incredible experience! You are not only booking a dome to stay in, but Davis is an attentive, full-service host. He helped move our luggage with his ATV, started the fire, adjusted the hot tub to the temperature we needed, brought out speakers, etc. The amenities are also amazing-- pool is incredibly clean, firepit is nice, outdoor kitchen with drinks and snacks, goats and animals around. Davis even let us have fresh eggs from his chickens for breakfast! He is such a thoughtful host and really goes the extra mile for his guests!

Our hosts Will and Austyn are amazing. They are so friendly and welcoming. They went above and beyond to made sure we have everything we needed. My husband and I stayed in the Unique Glamping Dome. It was very spacious and the bed was so comfy. The shared kitchen and bathroom are was so clean!! Side note Almond (the cat) was just as welcoming and friendly as our hosts. I love my stay at the dome it was extremely relaxing and peaceful. It was such a restful place. Giving the nice feeling of being in the middle of nature but only 15mins from a town that had everything I needed. The dome itself was wonderful with the view from the bedroom to a full bathroom and fast wifi. I spent my whole time at the dome getting a few days of R&R after a deployment and left feeling fully recovered and at peace.

Weekend Trip to North Star Cove

The dome at North Star Cove was absolute perfection!! Our family (my husband & our 2 daughters) had an absolute blast and enjoyed getting away & immersing ourselves in nature! The fold out couch in the living room worked great for our 2 elementary aged kids. Plenty of linens and blankets and pillows. The bathroom and shower & kitchen were very nice! Air conditioners worked very well, and there’s a standing fan as well. We built a campfire, stargazed, played horseshoes, made s'mores, used the tree swing, and just had an AMAZING time together as a family! The outhouse bathroom was in great condition as well. The town of Llano was SO cute! We enjoyed the famous Cooper’s BBQ. The drive alone to North Star Cove was just simply gorgeous! We definitely want to return one day, and we highly recommend North Star Cove to anyone wanting to unplug and get away either as a couple or as a family!!! The Llano hill country is good for the soul!

This was our first time using HipCamp, and what an incredible experience! Zvi and Thunder (the resident longhorn on site) were extremely responsive hosts and made sure we had everything that we needed for the duration of our stay. The geodesic dome was beautifully decorated with a sophisticated touch, impeccably clean, and incredibly comfortable. The location was private and peaceful—a perfect getaway from the city. We loved how secluded it felt despite being a short 20 minute drive from Bastrop. One of our favorite parts was waking up to a beautiful sunrise, with the option to open the curtains and let the morning light pour in. At night, the views of the sky were absolutely stunning—perfect for stargazing and soaking in the beauty of the quiet countryside. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to unwind and recharge.

Had a great stay at one of the Geo domes at Will and Austin’s campgrounds. They have a nice large well kept campground with other available lodging options such as A-frame cabins, tiny homes, and safari tents. Nicely decorated and furnished rooms that elevated the glamping experience. Stayed 2 nights with my significant other and our little pup. Such friendly and welcoming hosts, we will definitely stay again when visiting east Texas.
