Weekend Trip to The Ranch at Cross Road

Great communication with the host, ample space, location well situated for visiting wineries, cycling or strolling thru Livermore with its restaurants, shops and farmers markets. Bathroom and shower area were very clean. Quiet and peaceful surroundings with nice views of the distant hills.

This was an awesome camping experience. Being able to shower was a luxury. My pup was so happy chasing her ball in a big, open field. It was pretty quiet for us minus a few coyotes in the distance.

My favorite part was the breathtaking view. Slide ranch is an amazing experience to share with your loved ones. There’s a bit of a hike to get the Dome Trail site so pack light if you can. I would say be sure to fill up some water just in case the shared kitchen dome runs out of water and staff aren’t there to replenish the supply.

This site is in a perfect location. It's surrounded by dozens of wineries, lots of natural beauty. But it's also only about a 10 minute drive to get to downtown Livermore where there are tons of great restaurants to pick from. If you're into shopping, there are quaint shops downtown as well. The campground itself is organized well. This was actually my very first Hipcamp experience and I never felt lost or confused. There were signs on the property indicating where to set up. The bathroom/shower area felt like rustic elegance. The shower has privacy, but with an open roof which was a great experience. Matt provided very helpful guidance to prepare, including suggestions about what to bring weather-wise and things to do in the area. Actually, his communications were excellent and well timed i.e. I knew the gate code far enough in advance to not be wondering how I'd get in. Felt completely secure and safe. If you are tent camping, I suggest bringing a tool to pound stakes with as ground was dry. Also recommend a base tarp due to dry vegetation. I slept in a 2-person tent and was completely comfortable, slept like a rock. Highly recommend Matt's land and hospitality.

Really great hospitality - kids loved meeting and feeding the animals. The trek to the creek was steep, but the kids loved it (ages 4-8). Lovely, quiet site with sounds of the running creek and nothing else around. FYI no wood fires in summer, but they did provide a propane fire pit as an alternative. Would stay again!

1 night at Slide Ranch Campsites

Probably the single most beautiful campsite I have had. Looking out over the Pacific. We had it to ourselves and that was great. It would be cramped at full capacity but still one of your few chances to camp with this sort of view. Cooking setup was totally fine for making pasta with pre made sauce. Hike in is long enough to make it real but there were carts. We brought in "car camping lite" gear not backpacking weight. Instructions were clear and extensive. All good.

A gorgeous place to camp off the grid! We were not prepared for the sheer quality of the amenities, including what is basically a kitchen for basic camping meals and clean toilets and showering with running water. The property is beautiful and just down the road from town, and the hosts are friendly and gracious as well. We plan to return anytime!

Such a special spot! A perfect grassy meadow tucked away on a farm next to the ocean. Nice cool breeze when we were there. Just down the street from small family owned grocery, restaurant, bar, hardware store and beach. Daughter and I surfed and hit the hot tub and shower afterwards. Beautiful area…dreamy. You just may be inspired to start a farm yourself after visiting. Flushing toilets decently good. Shower, powered by propane a little wonky but it works. You can make it super cold too if you’re into that. Overall pleasant stay and will definitely be back. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see the sheep, llama and ‘78 Westy

This is a super convenient place to get away from it all...but also be 15 min away from Davenport and their convenience store and shops (as well as the coastal beaches). There is lots of space and sun in the meadow spot, and we walked past the creek spot on our hike down to the beautiful creek. The creek was a great place to be able to walk to during the hottest part of the day. Choose the creek site if you really want to camp and just be away from everything (the drive to it would be a mini adventure). Choose the meadow if you want to get in and out easily. It also has some great trees for hanging your hammocks. The whole experience was peaceful and the perfect weekend of camping. Obviously you have to appreciate a camp in/camp out experience (including your own poo), but Doug and Denise made it as easy and convenient as they can. Highly recommend having or renting from them the propane pit during the summer no-burn months.

Beautiful land with spectacular views, birdsong and lovely farm animals. We were in nature but all essential amenities were thought of, and there were tons of games and activities for the entire family. Beautiful trails on property. Brendan was warm and welcoming, and visited the farm animals with our 5yo which he loved. We'll definitely be back.

Stunning views and wonderful trails. My 5-year old and I had a great time camping here and enjoyed seeing the animals and exploring the rocky tide pools and trails. It was the biggest adventure of his life so far and he can't stop talking about it. The staff we met was so friendly and my kid even got to help milk a goat. The soothing ocean sound helped us sleep well and we enjoyed having breakfast in the dome where we made coffee and hot chocolate. It's definitely not glamping; there are few amenities and it's a bit of a trek to get to the campsite but we loved that as we felt more connected to nature and had privacy.

What a lovely stay. The property is quiet and beautiful, the amenities are ample, and our hosts were lovely. Tent sites are adjacent, so you will get to know your neighbors if you have any. When were were there in early June, there were generally 1-2 other parties present. It was so fun to see the sheep, chickens and even llama, and even better to have a fully stocked camp kitchen and running hot water. Highly recommend!

I really liked the tent camping and the sites were far apart. The area was suitable for Astrophotography although there was a bit of light glow from the town of Livermore. Slide Ranch Campsites

Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The tent-only campsite area is 1/4 mile hike (about 10 minutes, mostly-flat) from the parking lot and is not accessible by vehicle. Campers must park in the designated parking lot and hike into the campsite area. We provide wheelbarrows to help transport your personal items to the area. Campers are not permitted to sleep in their cars, vans, or campers in the parking lot. Minors aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult; no drop offs or pick ups permitted. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. Tents and gear are not included; please bring and pitch your own tents. Bring your own food (there is a cooler and dry food storage container) or plan to enjoy dining in Muir Beach. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. A composting toilet is at the campsite and Porta-potties are available around the property. Soap is provided for hand washing. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. There is no running water at the campsite but there will be containers of water for use in hand washing, dish washing, and limited for drinking. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Please plan to bring any snacks or picnic items you’d like to enjoy while enjoying the ranch. Per GGNRA regulations, campfires and open flames of any kind are not allowed out at the campsite meadow or inside the Geodesic Dome as there is no running water. Portable camp stoves and BBQs are strictly prohibited. Cooking is only allowed on the provided propane stove located inside the Dome. Please bring whatever items you need to prepare and enjoy your meals. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development and purchased by the Nature Conservancy. Slide Ranch offers camping to fund summer camp scholarships and other programs throughout the year.
