Completely private 19 acres to explore while only being 10 min from downtown Los Gatos (FYI has great cell reception). Plenty of flat empty land to pitch tents. There is a compost toilet and an outdoor shower with cold water. There is plenty of room to explore, half of the property is pretty dense wilderness but the main half has hammocks, slack line, fire pit, bbq, tables, etc.

The Forbes Island off-grid event venue and campground are at Bradford Island in the Sacramento River Delta. The floating barge is moored next to our private ranch, utilized for tent and RV camping for larger groups. We limit rentals to single groups for ultimate privacy in a natural setting. You and your guests enjoy the remote Sacramento River Delta wetlands while being only a short drive from the Bay Area. Guests have direct access to water sports and private docks.
*Note: Forbes Island requires passage via the Bradford Island car ferry (see schedule below), a personal watercraft, or a captained passenger ferry boat that must be booked in advance. Boat dock space is included.
History:
Forbes Thor Kiddoo came to San Francisco in 1959 after a stint in the Coast Guard. A carpenter and engineer, he developed a business constructing houseboats in Sausalito. Then, inspired by Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo and the movie version of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, Forbes Kiddoo built himself an underwater home, complete with portholes for watching the fish swim past, a diving hatch and a grand bedroom suite fit for a captain of his private world. In the ’90s, Forbes added a 40-foot lighthouse and a white picket fence.
Today, a small group of committed friends has preserved and kept Forbes Island afloat for community events, opening it for all to experience and enjoy. Your rental helps us to maintain this totally unique, fabulous find into the future.

Forbes Island is a historic architectural folly built on a floating barge, with indoor spaces above and below its deck. The venue is adjacent to private land available to add-on to your booking, for camping and RV parking. Guests may sleep in any of the following places on the property:

Michael was great at helping me navigate my adventure. The stay was great and relaxing. The nearby reservoir was an easy drive for a morning of fishing and the property was quiet and relaxing. The steep entry was no joke, but was no issue in a 2025 Subaru Outback wilderness. I would not recommend in a RWD/FWD coupe

Hammock-stand up on a rise above camp. Bring your hammock! Cool spot for a sunset.
Easy access (down hill from site) to cool walk/hike mowed trail. Hilly but shade, sun, views. Out and back or loop.
Quick drop down to Poplar Beach for loooong beach walks, dog friendly.

Great views from the campsite! As described in the site post, the approach up to the site does require a 4x4. The outdoor shower and toilet were much appreciated, along with the zip lines and swings for the kids.

Just what I needed. MY husband asked when I got back… do you see any people? Nope, I said— only cows, quail and a few raptors. Beautiful views. Rebecca was accommodating even though I caught her by surprise— asking to camp in the post rain muck. She expressed care and was lovely. It’s a pricy spot.. but you are paying for privacy at the top of a rolling hill. I’ve never stayed anywhere like it.

Weekend Trip to Two Rock Country Farm Stay
The area is wonderful and we enjoyed the multitude of birds on the property! The self-serve barn near the road was simple to understand (apple cider was great!). The RV space was the perfect size for us and the bed was comfortable. We spent time enjoying parts of Petaluma, Point Reyes, and Inverness as well.

Absolutely stunning campsite. Perfectly flat, spacious, and surrounded by incredible Redwood-lined ridges — plus a panorama of one of the most beautiful peninsulas on Earth. Easy to find, easy to settle into. Rebecca was super accommodating. Could not recommend it more. We’ll definitely be back.

Our family had a beautiful time at Sheep Camp! Debra was a wonderful host and easy to communicate with before and throughout our stay. The kids loved the bunk beds, and we all enjoyed the outdoor dining area with its cozy lights. The farm-fresh eggs were delicious, and it was so fun to watch the chickens running around and the emus up close. It was foggy during our visit, but that only added to the magic of staying at the farm. We’d definitely love to come back!

Great quiet spot! The drive up had me take a very narrow road that I had to back up on so opposing traffic could pass- on my way out it took me on a wider road- just be aware if you’re on the narrow road to go slow and if on weekend be prepared to see tons of cyclists. I’m surprised time went by so quickly! I messed up and thought I booked a second night and it didn’t go through, so the hipcamper who came and Rebecca the host were very gracious about it and let me stay a second night anyways (thank you both!). Would definitely come back again. I didn’t use the porta potty- but it’s great that they offer it! The weather was beautiful and clear, warm even towards the end of November. Very damp at night as others have said, so kept things inside that can’t get wet. Had a great, peaceful time!

This is an incredibly peaceful site, where the only sound at night is the ocean and the only reminder that you are close to a major city are the planes flying in and out of SFO in the distance. We saw lots of wildlife like a family of quails hanging around the edge of the site. Our dog loved exploring the area. We were hoping to hike on the redwood forest trail that ends near the site, but realized dogs are not allowed there, so we just walked down the road from the site instead and enjoyed the beautiful valley views until we could see the ocean. It definitely would be more of a primitive camping experience if not for the pristine Porta-potty, which we didn’t mind. The picnic table and chairs were a nice bonus, though the umbrellas were missing some parts. As others have mentioned and the host shared with us, things will be quite wet in the morning. Rebecca gave us super helpful recommendations on which nearby beaches we could take our dog

Great stay! The host provided clear and accurate info for accessing the property and using all the amenities. This is an excellent spot for families, swings, zip line, ropes, beautiful views, fire pits, BBQ, lounge chairs, and picnic tables. The place is spacious and peaceful. Just note that a 4x4 vehicle is definitely needed to get there. Would stay again!

This spot was perfect for our group of 10! It was so nice to have to have the entire camp to ourselves, and there was plenty of flat space to spread out so nobody’s tents were on top of each other. The view over the rolling hills was beautiful, especially at sunset. Directions were very clear, the camp was easy to find, and everything was as described. There is no shade at the camp, which was fine for us in October, but I imagine it’s get quite toasty in summer.

Camp Jaron is a very quiet spot close to downtown Los Gatos. Pros: Hot shower, composting toilet, and mostly private (The neighbor's house has a direct line of sight on the main campsite area — further down the hill is more private) Neutral: Rough road to access property, 4x4/clearance required as described. Cons: Limited level ground for parking rig, I had to park directly under large branches which I try to avoid whenever possible, would recommend packing leveling blocks. Limited level & cleared space for tents — Expect overgrowth / leaves / mulch / poison oak.
