They are gentle, but please do not feed or let them inside the tent. Recharge from the day with a hot shower. Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. There are over twenty species of wild birds that grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A portion of your fee goes towards protecting native flora and fauna as part of our private wildlife preservation program. A limited number of private, widely spaced camp spots are available for visitors. The Eagles' Nest Treehouse (mentioned above) is very isolated and you may or may not even be aware that there are other people within miles of you. The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area. Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. Nearly four acres close to town and amenities, yet quiet and secluded. Away from any major roads and on quiet nights, the fog horn from the Big River buoy can be heard. Weekend Trip to Heartwood Mendocino

Heartwood Camp’s Huckleberry site was an absolutely incredible stay. The scenery alone is worth the visit—towering redwoods, peaceful forest views, and a truly serene atmosphere that makes it easy to unplug and relax. The facilities are top-notch. The camp kitchen is well thought out and very convenient, and the bathrooms are clean, comfortable, and clearly well cared for. Everything feels intentionally designed to enhance the camping experience while still letting nature be the star. One of the highlights of the stay was the unforgettable outdoor redwood tree shower. Showering among the redwoods is magical—private, refreshing, and easily one of the coolest outdoor showers I’ve ever experienced. The hosts are wonderful, and their sweet dog Lola deserves a special mention. She’s incredibly friendly and gentle and may stop by your site to say hello, which only adds to the charm of the place. Overall, Heartwood Camp at the Huckleberry site offers a perfect balance of natural beauty and thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable camping experience. 🌲🐾🚿

We stayed at the range campsite. That was one of our best camping experiences. 360 degree view, top of hill. Karina was great host, very responsive. Highly recommend it.

Cabin 5 is the largest of our cabins with a queen and bunked twins. It’s also taller than the others.

The Range was perfect, with beautiful views and a really peaceful feel. It was great meeting their dog Ria and saying hi to the farm animals. My dogs were so happy to have space to run around and just be dogs. Karina was very accommodating and easy to talk to, which made everything even better. It was pretty windy during my stay, but overall a really nice experience and a place I’d happily return to!

1 night at Wild Seeds Ranch

Upon my arrival, Lexi generously gifted me with an upgrade to the unreserved Creekside Campsite. My experience there was nothing short of profound. The year-round gurgling, 10-foot wide creek may be unique to San Diego county campsites. While the beneficial sounds of flowing water are well-known in the contemplative practices, combining this with the visual perception of it, the feelings of wind and sun on the skin, and Nature's smells one becomes immersed in an exteroceptive experience, par excellence, that synergized with my interoceptive awareness to drive its extensions beyond all previous boundaries: a novel bliss that can accurately be described as paradise. She has accented these natural delights with beautiful human creations--an elegant 6-foot long wind mobile and the most beautiful lace tablecloth I have ever seen. While I surely could have remained there happily ever after, other needs drove me away. Nevertheless, having been away from there for three nights now, I can attest that the interoceptive enhancement still remains and may be permanent. Therefore, anyone practicing the contemplative arts will certainly benefit from this amazing exteroceptive experience, even if for only a single night. Lexi is to be adored for sharing this marvelous treasure of hers, and the rest of us should certainly avail ourselves of this unique opportunity to advance our consciousnesses with at least a night's visit to paradise that will enhance your insight about self.

Weekend Trip to Campo Nopalito

Staying at coyote cabana on nopalito farm was such a great experience. Jacob was very friendly and keeps the land well maintained. The comfort of sleeping on mattresses with warm blankets made our get away so much more comfortable. If you are looking for a casual get away from home and want to enjoy nature, this is the place to stay. The host’s dog Gertie is very friendly and played all day with our dog Loba. Off leash friendly was what stood out to us when booking this location.

Weekend Trip to Splitrock Farm and Retreat

This place is so great. I want gatekeep but also tell everyone about it. This campsite in particular was very secluded, but still within walking distance of toilet. Granite Tabernacle had two campfires and the space it was in was so big there was so much room for activities. The animals walking around were so cute and the views were beautiful. The bathroom/showers were much cleaner than expected. The shower didn’t get warm but I got used to it eventually. The road leading up to each of the campsites did feel a little scary driving up, but I’m sure most cars can get there. Interacted with just a few people that worked there, but everyone was nice. The loop around the grounds was about 30 minutes walking and was nice to scope out potential next stays, which I definitely will be doing next year!

Stayed one night in Roadrunner with my dog Poppy. The farm is really beautiful and well-kept. We had a cozy night of sleep and we loved hanging out with Gertie the farm dog. I live 40 mins away but this was the perfect getaway from the city. Lots of bird spotting and a beautiful sunset. The kitchen has everything you need. Will definitely return!

Weekend Trip to Freedog Farms @ Cactus Flower Ranch

Darin was the most welcoming and genuinely great host I’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with on HipCamp. Their property is beautiful and it was exciting seeing all of the farm animals, especially for my two year old. The fresh chicken and duck eggs were better than you could buy anywhere and the ribeye steak that Darin was so generous to grill and share with the rest of the guests was to die for. I will never forget this experience and sure to come back next spring.
