Our property is near Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park and Lake Okeechobee.
If you’re looking for places to visit for the day or services nearby, you can head to Okeechobee, which is only 20 min away. Lake Placid is only 40 min, Vero Beach is only 1 hr, and Melbourne is 1 hr 30 min.
All of the listed locations offer great opportunities for fishing, hunting, swimming, and beach hangouts. Each of the sites allows for watching the livestock, hanging out at the watering hole, and sitting around the communal campfire.
Our favorite things about our property are privacy, amenities, and all of the roaming mini livestock throughout the property!
Your hosts do not live onsite however, will be available to you during your visit. We are friendly and as non-invasive as we can be. We do love meeting our guests and are available for any questions that come up. Our primary purpose when developing this property was to create a safe space for children with special needs and their families. We are a no judgment zone and adhere to Hipcamp's inclusion policy.

We're close to adventures of all types like Bok Tower Gardens, Legoland, several state parks, canoeing/kayaking, great fishing, paddle boarding, skydiving, Sunshine Flea Market, and the Spook Hill Mystery Spot. You can also opt to catch a movie at the local theater or take a tour of the Florida's Natural orange juice factory.
If you're up for a 45-60 min drive you can also visit several of the attractions often featured in "weird Florida" guides including Solomon's Castle, Gatorland, and Monument of the States. And let's not forget, the more well-known attractions, Disney World and Universal Studios are also conveniently located about 45-60 minutes away.
When you're ready to stock up on supplies, we're near gas stations and grocery stores (don't leave without trying the famous Publix subs). There are also coin operated laundry options near by.
If you need it, there is a reputable RV tire and service company about 10 minutes away.

Beautiful Private Premium Site 45' (phase III) at the River Ranch RV Resort. Awesome tropical palms, double pad, good shade with an amazing native tree, firepit, picninc table, 2 swings chairs and a wood bench. The site has water, sewer, 30 and 50 amp and cable tv.
River Ranch has a direct outlet to the Kissimmee River which is known for some of the best bass fishing in Florida and where many tournaments are held. U.S. Skeet and Shoot World competitions were also held at River Ranch.
Perhaps the best known fact about River Ranch is that it holds the record for the longest operating rodeo in Florida. Many local and national champions perform here on a weekly basis. Tater Porter who lives in nearby Kennansville is a world champion Bull Rider. Also, The Saloon which was originally built in Texas in 1918 continues to be a favorite hot spot!

About the property
Our property is near Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park and Lake Okeechobee.
If you’re looking for places to visit for the day or services nearby, you can head to Okeechobee, which is only 20 min away. Lake Placid is only 40 min, Vero Beach is only 1 hr, and Melbourne is 1 hr 30 min.
All of the listed locations offer great opportunities for fishing, hunting, swimming, and beach hangouts. Each of the sites allows for watching the livestock, hanging out at the watering hole, and sitting around the communal campfire.
Our favorite things about our property are privacy, amenities, and all of the roaming mini livestock throughout the property!
Your hosts do not live onsite however, will be available to you during your visit. We are friendly and as non-invasive as we can be. We do love meeting our guests and are available for any questions that come up. Our primary purpose when developing this property was to create a safe space for children with special needs and their families. We are a no judgment zone and adhere to Hipcamp's inclusion policy.

Our easy to access property has a treelined drive that welcomes you to our camping space. With just three lots you'll be able to enjoy your time here in a partially shaded space. We offer both 30 and 50 amp electric, along with water and septic hookups. Maximum length 35', please call if longer. We're centrally located to many attractions like Disney World, Universal Studios, Legoland, and many other unique options.
First time RVer? We're on site and will be happy to help you get parked, set up, and show you how to use the hookups. By the time you leave, you'll be a pro!
Once you're settled you can sit outside and soak up the sun or enjoy a quiet meal at your own picnic table while watching the birds (you may be lucky enough to spot the Painted Buntings!). There's also a grassy area to let your trained and friendly dog(s) stretch their legs and get some play time in.
When you're ready to venture out, you'll find great local "hole-in-the-wall" eateries along with your chain restaurant favorites. We're close to adventures of all types like Bok Tower Gardens, Legoland, several state parks, canoeing/kayaking, great fishing, paddle boarding, skydiving, Sunshine Flea Market, and the Spook Hill Mystery Spot. You can also opt to catch a movie at the local theater or take a tour of the Florida's Natural orange juice factory.
If you're up for a 45-60 min drive you can also visit several of the attractions often featured in "weird Florida" guides including Solomon's Castle, Gatorland, and Monument of the States. And let's not forget, the more well-known attractions, Disney World and Universal Studios are also conveniently located about 45-60 minutes away.
When you're ready to stock up on supplies, we're near gas stations and grocery stores (don't leave without trying the famous Publix subs). There are also coin operated laundry options near by.
If you need it, there is a reputable RV tire and service company about 10 minutes away.

We ventured to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve for a hike, which was close and easy to get to. Hot showers outside were a needed treat. All facilities were well kept and great additions. Thank you, David.

Pleasant surprise! Even though the weather did not cooperate, the Host provided entertainment for all the campers for NEW YEARS. THERE WAS A "BURN BAN" so no fireworks. The Host compensated by giving EVEYONE with graffiti bombs 💣....

We had a good experience; the campsite is spacious and has plenty of shade. The bathroom was clean and close to our tent. John was very attentive. We had a problem with our inflatable mattress and had to buy a new one, but luckily, and very conveniently, there's a Walmart only 20 minutes away. The only thing we didn't like is that for us, the camping experience is about connecting with nature, but the constant noise of passing cars disrupted that connection. We would come back, but to a different campsite. Overall, we enjoyed it.

John, his wife Patty, and son John are all so wonderful! Extremely family friendly with lots of activities if you have kids, and REAL dog lovers. If you're looking for the perfect peaceful relaxing getaway for ALL your family members look no further.
Dogs are allowed off leash and our dog felt very much at home and happy to have so many new friends! We were so at peace we extended our stay. We had 2 different sites that I'd strongly recommend.
The Hideaway was stellar and felt like a literal hideaway! Cute and tucked away with a shady spot with a hammock. Shadie Oaks was exactly how it sounds, wonderful and shady and an extra nice big space with plenty of room in the sun! Both spaces have a fire pit, some chairs, and a picnic table.
You're not far from town to get more supplies or ice, but it feels like you're out in the middle of nowhere. Potable water isn’t available, but electric is provided and an amazing outdoor shower! Very nice bathroom as well. Highly recommend getting wood from them too. Got a huge bundles and well worth the price.
It was a very pleasant stay. If peace, quiet, and relaxation is what you're looking for you've found THE place you NEED to stay. It helped going out on the river a few times as well. The kayak rentals are VERY reasonable. We had fun taking our dog out on the tandem kayak! Fixed us right up and we're looking forward to our next trip because we plan on visiting again in the future!

About
This is one for wildlife lovers! With more rare and endangered species than any other Florida state park, animal sightings await around every tree at Highlands Hammock State Park. Look out for white-tailed deer, gopher tortoises, and black bears from the Cypress Swamp boardwalk, take a tram ride to spot alligators along the South Canal, and spy raptors, songbirds, and wading birds around the wetlands. You might even spot a Florida panther slinking through the woodlands. After exploring the hiking trails, rent a bike to tackle the biking trail, visit the Florida Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, then check into the RV campground. Highlands Hammock Campground has water and electric hookups, and an on-site dump station. There are also several drive-in primitive campsites in the park’s wilderness.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve one of the RV campsites or primitive campsites at Highlands Hammock Campground via the Florida State Parks Reservation website.
- Florida residents can make campsite reservations 11 months in advance, while non-residents can make reservations 10 months in advance.
- Campsites can book up as fast, especially over holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance.
When to go
Florida’s summers can be hot, humid, and wet, and the trails can get muddy—fall, winter, and spring provide much better weather for hikers. Peak season runs from October through May, when ranger-led guided tours and campfire circles are held in the park, and tram tours run daily. Winter and spring are also great times for birding and wildlife watching.
Know before you go
- Highlands Hammock State Park is set seven miles west of Sebring, about a 15-minute drive. It can be reached in less than two hours from Orlando, Fort Myers, and Tampa.
- A day pass is required for Florida State Parks, and campsite booking fees also apply.
- Facilities at Highlands Hammocks include a rentable amphitheatre and picnic pavilions, restrooms, picnic tables and grills, and a playground. Wifi is not available at the park.
- There are accessible campsites, restrooms, and picnic areas at Highlands Hammocks State Park. The tram tours and CCC Museum are also accessible.
- Dogs are permitted at the state park but must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash at all times.

Cool place to camp and beautiful scenery. I stayed one night in January 2015 and really enjoyed my stay but didn't like the proximity to the road nearby (traffic noise). Book a site furthest from the roads for best experience.
